Adeptus Custodes 40k Combat Patrol Review
This Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol is basically a pocket-sized golden hammer: elite bodies, brutal melee pressure, and the kind of units that make every swing feel expensive in the best way. For out-of-the-box games, the Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol rules are built so you can crack the box, build the models, and run them as a self-contained force right out of the gate.

Is the Custodes Combat Patrol Worth It?
If you actually want everything in this new Custodes Combat Patrol, it’s a pretty clean pickup with about $70 in value. You’re getting a much broader mix of units than the old Blade Champion and Allarus-heavy box, with infantry, fast-moving Venatari, and a big centerpiece model that can be built as either a Contemptor-Achillus or Contemptor-Galatus.
But if you’re already loaded up on Custodes infantry or you only really need the Venatari or Dreadnought, you may be better off cherry-picking the kit you actually want instead of adding another stack of gold-plated bodies to the shame pile.
On the Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol rules side, this box actually gives you two different forces to play. So, if you’re running this box in that format, you get plenty of flexibility.
Custodes Combat Patrol Points vs Combat Patrol Rules
Combat Patrol is its own little rules bubble, so points are not really the headline. But if you’re planning to roll these golden boys straight into regular 40k, this Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol points clock in at roughly 800 points, give or take, depending on the latest updates.
What to Buy Next After the Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol
This box is a great start, but you’ll want more Custodian Guard to hold objectives and keep the golden pressure rolling. Add Sisters of Silence if you need cheaper bodies for screening and backfield chores. Then grab some bikes or a vehicle so you can actually get across the board and play the mission. Pairing it with the Custodes Support Group is a great option if you want all the new big minis!
Old Custodes Combat Patrol: 2022 and 2024 OOP Versions
The out-of-print 2022 Custodes Combat Patrol is the one people still drag into every “value” debate, because the savings were fatter if you actually wanted everything in it. It was eighteen models and leaned hard on Sisters of Silence for the bulk of the box.
Here’s the quick contents and value comparison so you can size it up without the nostalgia goggles or the eBay markup.
| Models | Unit Name | Value |
| 10 | Sisters of Silence | $120 (2 boxes) |
| 5 | Adeptus Custodes Custodian Guard | $62.50 |
| 3 | Vertus Praetors | $62.50 |
| Custodes Combat Patrol | ||
| Total MSRP: | $245 | |
| Savings Versus Box Price: | $77 | |
2024 OOP Version:
The 2024 version carried the Custodes through 10th Edition, but it was on the lower end of the box values. Still, it has a decent mix of units and might be worth grabbing if you find it cheap on the secondary market.
| Models | Unit Name | Value |
| 1 | Blade Champion | $43.50 |
| 3 | Allarus Terminators | $60 |
| 5 | Custodian Guard | $65 |
| 5 | Custodian Wardens | $65 |
| Combat Patrol: Adeptus Custodes | ||
| Total MSRP: | $233.50 | |
| Savings Versus Box Price: | $62.50 | |
Final Verdict on the Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol
The new Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol isn’t trying to reinvent the golden boys. It’s here to give you a clean value bundle, a quick path to a playable force, and a very on-brand game plan that actually fits the Combat Patrol rules.
If you want elite, smash-face melee and you genuinely need the dreadnought in the box, this one earns its $177 price tag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are combat patrols 500 points?
No. Combat Patrol doesn’t use points at all. Games Workshop’s own Combat Patrol page says “there is no need to create an army list,” because each faction plays the fixed roster from its box. Points only come into it if you take these Custodes into a regular game of Warhammer 40,000 and build a list from the codex.
Are old combat patrols still playable?
Not in the app yet. Games Workshop says the Warhammer 40,000 app launched its Combat Patrol section around the core Combat Patrol offer, one current box per army, and that for the many older Combat Patrol sets “there is support on the way for these too.” Check the app before planning a game around the 2022 or 2024 Custodes box.
