There’s some good news for playing in official Games Workshop Tournaments on the horizon that has previously had a lot of people worried!
When the faction painting rules were announced, people were a little nervous, and with good reason! Well, with them giving out the email to contact, people did just that, started asking questions! So, we’ve heard from hobbyists, it’s not going to be as restricted as initially thought.
Instead of having to paint the entire thing the exact colors of the subfaction, there are much easier workarounds! Before we go any further, this is just for “official GW tournaments”, so if you’re playing in an ITC event or other event, always check with your TO! Let’s first look at the rule we saw that made us worried, then get into the solutions.
The Rule That had People Worried

Then, it seems to get even worse, that you have to paint every subfaction to the exact paint scheme as well. Obviously, when you lay those rules out and give out an email to ask questions, it wouldn’t be long before we got some answers!

Good News for Playing In Games Workshop Tournaments

You can either paint your bases the correct color of the subfaction, or if you don’t want to change your bases, you can use something like Squadmarks that are also painted differently on each miniature- just as long as every model in your different subfractions has clearly defined correct colors, so your opponent has a clear indication of what they are.

They are made to actually mark out your different squads, so why not take advantage of a cool product? They even have ones that can be magnetized, which just makes it easier.
This is honestly really good news, meaning you don’t have to repaint everything! All you have to do is change up your bases or add a few unit designators with a splash of color!
