Learn how to store your minis for cheap with these super simple tips, and we’ll even show you how to keep them safe with magnets!
There are a lot of really cool transport cases out there, but they can get pricey to store a lot of minis. By using clear cases like these, they are cheap and durable, and since they’re clear, you can see your minis inside. Rob uses this method to store and transport a good chunk of his miniatures, so you know it can be used for an extensive collection!

To start with, you want something you can magnetize your minis onto! You can get these sheets for pretty cheap, and you can get your pre-cut ones like this on Amazon here, but you can also get them from your local Home Depot or equivalent store. You will need some sheers to cut through it; it’s really not hard; just be sure not to cut yourself on the metal!
Once you have your metal ready, you just cut it to the size of the container you are using and then secure it to the bottom with this double-sided tape. It’s pretty easy so far! Rob also secures it with some black duct tape on the inside to be safe. It’s super solid, and Rob has never had one pop out on him before. We recently also looked at how to magnetize your mini bases (which you need to do to take full advantage of this), which you can read all about here.
Next up, now that you have the metal sheets ready to go, you have to decide on which case you use.
Picking the Right Case
For smaller minis on anything around 28mm-32, Rob goes with the Iris Project case. The one that is slightly taller can store things up to around Dreadnought size.
Then, if you have some really big minis, Rob still goes with the IRIS case but the bigger size, which you can find here. The crate is fairly large and can fit 4-6 or the large Greater Daemon or even Daemon Primarch-sized models with about 10-1/2″ of clearance. Pretty awesome! It’s really that easy; just cut out your inserts, get the bases magnetized, and then put them in it!
Some of Rob’s Favorite Cases
First up are these stackable cases that are super cheap (about $10). You can either find them at your local arts and crafts store or on Amazon. They work super well for storing things like Marvel Crisis Protocol minis. They’ve held up really well; the only thing you’ll have to do with these is cut out the metal sheets to fit.
He uses the double deep case from Artbinfor this; all you have to do is put little magnets on the bottom of your minis’ bases, then throw down a piece of sheet metal with some double-sided tape on the bottom. And boom, you can transport all of your minis safely to wherever without much hassle! Plus, the case is pretty cheap; the only issue is sometimes the snaps get stuck a little bit, but nothing big. Maybe best of all, it has a handle on it, and since it’s magnetized, you don’t have to worry about your minis falling out.
They also make them with dividers inside (you can grab them here), so it’s perfect to hold your terrain, and again, it’s cheap and has a handle.
The Art Bin fun doesn’t stop there; they also make a case for glitter glue storage (you can grab it here), but it works perfectly for dropper bottles of paint!
If you need a case to hold all your tools and such, this Super Satchel case is perfect because it’s so big and even has side spots that would work perfectly for your brushes and such.
Storing Your Game Aides
This is another Artbin case (big surprise), and there is actually a pencil case in there from them as well because it fits all the rulers and such perfectly. You can see how it holds everything pretty tight, so you don’t have to worry about stuff rolling around. The postcard holders are perfect for character cards.
You can also use these coin holders as they are perfect for holding your objective markers and make organizing them easy!
