New 40k Kill Teams On the Way in 2026: Rumors

New Warhammer 40k Kill Team box sets may have been spotted on Instagram, as wishlisting for the new warbands coming out for 11th edition has intensified across factions.

Grab your foil hats, folks. Warhammer’s official Instagram just dropped some spicy Grey Knights vs World Eaters artwork, and the community went full inquisitor mode. At first glance, it’s your classic daemon purge.

Then, with the 11th Edition on the horizon, new Kill Team box set rumors have exploded, and now there are nearly a dozen possibilities out there. We’ll break down why each one makes sense and why they might all come true on the tabletop.

New 40k Kill Team Rumors: Landing in 2026 (and Why Each One Makes Sense)

Updated March 31, 2026, by Rob Baer with the latest information.

TL;DR
  • New Kill Team box rumors are spiking for 2026: Warhammer’s Instagram dropped Grey Knights vs World Eaters artwork, and the community immediately started connecting dots to 11th edition teasers.
  • Kill Team is GW’s “sneak new sculpts in” machine: perfect for reviving subfactions, testing demand, and setting up the one-box-now, bigger-wave-later play.
  • Grey Knights are the cleanest bet: elite, low model count, and the art looks like it could hint at an upscaled Strike Squad style refresh.
  • The rest is a buffet of plausible teams: Exodites, Legion of the Damned, Freebooterz, classic Guard regiments, Sisters of Silence, Daemons, and traitor legions all make sense as Kill Team-first drops.

New CSM Defiler Iron Warriors

Kill Team is GW’s easiest way to sneak in new sculpts, revive forgotten subfactions, and test-drive bigger range plans without committing to a full codex wave up front. With the 11th edition on the way, this is the cleanest path to market for “one box now, bigger expansion later” releases that also slot straight into the main Warhammer 40k game.

These are all rumors, and nothing on this list has been confirmed by Games Workshop, yet. We will update this post when and if any of these are previewed.

Ork Kill Team Rumors: Nobz Over Mega Nobz Makes Way More Sense

40kFFOrksMeganobz

The early rumors were Mega Nobz in Kill Team, which sounded cool on paper but a little awkward once you pictured it on the board. Two or three mega-armored bricks stomping around in a skirmish format never quite lined up with how Kill Team usually plays.

Now the rumors are pointing toward standard Nobz instead, and that feels right. Nobz give you bulk, attitude, and proper Orky swagger without turning the game into a slow-motion armor parade. You can kit them for choppy pressure, lean into dakka, or mix it up for that classic “organized chaos” vibe Orks do so well.

If this ends up being a bespoke Kill Team kit, there is real potential here. New sculpts, loads of weapon options, maybe some specialist-style builds baked into the sprues. Nobz are one of those units that have always deserved a little extra love visually.

It also lines up neatly with the wider Ork refresh rumors floating around for 11th edition. If characters like Nazdreg are circling back and we are seeing more focus on heavier infantry and armored bosses, a Nobz Kill Team acts like a “gateway” into that side of the range.

stormboyz

Stormboyz were previously rumored for new models, though recent mentions have slowed. That said, more Ork releases are still expected after 11th edition launches, so it feels less like a cancellation and more like a matter of timing.

  • If they are not in an 11th edition starter, Kill Team is the easiest place to slot them into the release schedule anyway.
  • Both units fit the “specialist squad plus leader” Kill Team box formula.
  • New sculpts land cleanly in both games, which is the whole point of modern Kill Team design.

Grey Knights (possibly vs Khorne, tied to cover hints)

  • Elite, low-model-count teams are Kill Team’s sweet spot, and Grey Knights are basically purpose-built for it.
  • With Grey Knights being teased visually, a Kill Team box is the simplest “first hit” before a broader refresh.
  • Grey Knights vs daemons is a natural pairing that sells itself on theme alone.
  • We’re not sure if this is for World Eaters or Daemons, but the cover art from last year (we have it below) had both on it.

Soul Grinder and Defiler overlap (shared sprues, kit family logic)

  • GW loves shared frames and “same base kit, different build” engineering for big Chaos kits.
  • With daemon engines getting attention again, a refreshed kit that feeds multiple builds would be classic GW efficiency.
  • A splashy daemon engine also gives a release wave an obvious centerpiece model.

Aeldari Exodites as a Kill Team launchpad

  • Kill Team is where GW often introduces niche, high-demand concepts before scaling them into a bigger range.
  • Exodites are the long-running “missing” Aeldari flavor, and the hype-to-sales path is obvious.
  • With Corsairs getting minis, this could be possible as GW expands the line.
  • A contained Kill Team release lets them prove demand before committing to a full army rollout later.

Legion of the Damned returning as a Kill Team

legion of the damned

  • Their appeal is mostly aesthetic, and Kill Team is the best format for “all vibe, maximum drip” releases.
  • A single boxed team brings them back without requiring a full range rewrite or massive codex support.
  • Flaming skull Marines are an instant hobby seller, even for people who do not care about the lore.

Ork Freebooterz getting new models later

  • The recent made-to-order run reads like “we know you want this” rather than “this is dead.”
  • If 11th edition leans Marines vs Orks, Orks will be in the pipeline, and Kill Team is perfect for flavorful side drops.
  • Freebooterz are personality-first Orks, which is exactly what Kill Team boxes thrive on.

Classic Imperial Guard regiments revived via Kill Team

  • Kill Team is the proven way to bring back distinct regiment looks without rebuilding the whole Guard range at once.
  • Steel Legion, Vostroyans, Catachans, Mordians, Praetorians all have nostalgia demand and strong visual identity.
  • It also creates a clean “buy one team, then build outward” pathway for army collectors.

Space Hulk-style Kill Team box (Blood Angels Terminators vs Genestealers)

  • Boarding actions and corridor fights already map perfectly onto Kill Team gameplay and terrain.
  • Blood Angels Terminators are an easy headline kit, and Genestealers are the perfect horror-movie opponent.
  • A self-contained theme box hits Kill Team players, 40k players, and collectors in one swing.
  • Breachers for the Primaris line would also be very cool to see

Sisters of Silence as a Kill Team

Sisters of Silence Bundle

  • They are under-supported but have huge style and character potential, which makes them ideal for a bespoke team.
  • Kill Team can add new sculpts and characters without GW needing to commit to a full Sisters of Silence range.
  • They also plug into multiple Imperial story hooks, making matchup design easy.

Chaos Daemons getting spotlight kits (Bloodletters as the obvious example)

  • If daemons need love, Kill Team is the quickest place to inject new kits without waiting on a codex cycle.
  • Grey Knights vs daemons is a clean box matchup with instant table appeal.
  • Refreshed daemon infantry would be a major visual win, and Kill Team buyers tend to reward that.

Traitor Legion themed teams (Word Bearers, Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors)

  • Kill Team is perfect for “subfaction identity packs” that add flavor without demanding full legion ranges.
  • It lets GW sprinkle Chaos variety into the release calendar instead of doing everything in one massive wave.
  • These teams pull double duty: specialist rules in Kill Team, and a cool-looking unit for 40k armies.

Is a New GK Vs. Khorne 40k Kill Team Box Coming? (Rumors)

Grey Knights ArtRumors are flying faster than a Khorne Berzerker on a Red Thirst bender. The art looks suspiciously like it could be tied to an upcoming rumored Kill Team box.

And with the way Games Workshop tends to use artwork as a teaser (they basically never release art that doesn’t depict official models), we’ve got good reason to raise an eyebrow.

Strike Squad01Toss in whispers of new models, and the hype starts writing its own codex. The Grey Knights in the art looked upscaled compared to current models and with plenty of new options.

This box could very well have a new Strike Squad for the Grey Knights, and we might finally see them get the upscale and rework they deserve after about 15 years.

What is that Daemon Engine?

World Eaters vs Grey KnightsOne thing has everyone talking: a nasty Daemon Engine with a buzzsaw for an arm and tank treads. It doesn’t match any current Chaos model on the tabletop. But, with the updated Defiler now revealed, this new daemon engine could just be a sprue upgrade for that, like the existing Soulgrinder is.

Either way, it’s not something artists usually sketch for fun. GW tends to build models that match the art. Maybe this could even be a scaled-down Lord of Skulls type mini?

Why This Could Be Huge For Both Factions

world eaters detachmnet art warhammer 40k icon hor walGrey Knights need fresh models and new toys. World Eaters are still riding high off their 9th edition glow-up, but could use some more love, as they currently feel light on models to play with.

A blood-soaked battleground with skull altars and daemonic war machines? Sign us up. Now, with all the new Kill Team rumors, hobbyists should keep an eye on Kill Team for smaller but super interesting releases coming soon.

Between the art reveal, the codex tease, and community rumors, this box could be a banger. If it drops anything like the recent Necron vs Deathwatch set, expect killer terrain and unique models.

Until we get confirmation, it’s all speculation, but the kind that makes your wallet nervous and your shelf space tighter.

Final Thoughts From Us on These 40k Kill Team Rumors

Kill Team App

If this whole Grey Knights vs World Eaters tease is real, it’s exactly the kind of Kill Team move GW loves: one spicy box, a handful of fresh sculpts, and a “totally not a preview for a bigger 11th edition plan” wink at the camera.

Grey Knights desperately need the upscale treatment, World Eaters could use a few more toys to keep the blood train rolling, and that mystery daemon engine is the kind of weird centerpiece bait that turns a rumor into a pre-order alarm.

Will any of these rumors of new Kill Team boxes actually land in 2026? Who knows. But between the artwork, the way GW uses visuals like breadcrumb trails, and the sheer number of plausible matchups floating around, Kill Team feels like the most obvious launchpad for the next wave of “small box now, big consequences later” releases.

So keep your eyes on the teasers, keep your expectations in check, and maybe start “budgeting” in the same way we all “budget” for Warhammer: lying to ourselves, then buying it anyway.
