New MkIV Space Marines Hit Horus Heresy in 32-Model Maximus Battle Group

Maximus Battle Group box mk 4 space marines horus heresyNew MkIV Space Marines hit Horus Heresy in the Maximus Battle Group box, loaded with 20 Tactical, 10 Assault Marines, a Contemptor, and a Sicaran.

GW loaded all the new Horus Heresy minis into one massive box, and we’re here for it. Inside the Maximus Battle Group, you get 30 MkIV-clad Marines, 20 Tactical Legionaries, and 10 Assault Legionaries, plus a Contemptor Dreadnought and a Sicaran Battle Tank in a single bundle. That’s a starting Horus Heresy army’s worth of plastic waiting to be painted the day pre-orders hit shelves.

The new MkIV armor plate design slots into the existing plastic Heresy range alongside the Mk II Crusade, Mk III Iron, and Mk VI Corvus kits. So, if you’ve been holding off on starting a Heresy army because the choice between the older armor marks felt like splitting hairs, the new MkIV designs may just change your mind!

As an added bonus, the Assault Squad can also be built as veteran Assault Marines with power lances, turning them into true killers. Obviously, just like with all the other armor marks, this is all compatible with the rest of the HH range, giving you even more conversion opportunities.

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • Maximus Battle Group contents: 20 Tactical Legionaries, 10 Assault Legionaries, a Contemptor Dreadnought, and a Sicaran Battle Tank ship in one box, similar in shape to the recent Siege Assault Battle Group.
  • Range fit: MkIV joins the existing plastic Mk II Crusade, Mk III Iron, and Mk VI Corvus kits, with full compatibility across the standard weapon and command upgrade sets.
  • Power lance build: The Assault Legionary squad converts to Veteran Assault Marines with a complete set of power lances, giving the jump-pack profile a real Marine-killing melee option for the first time.

What’s Actually In The Maximus Battle Group Box

MKIV Tactical Marines

While the individual units are nice, the Maximus box is the real star of the show. It kicks off with 20 Tactical Marines armed with Tigris-pattern bolters, replacing the shorter pattern that came with the Mk III Iron Armor release.

MKIV Assault Marines Then, there are the 10 Assault Legionaries, with reworked jump packs, plus the option to build them as Veteran Assault Marines with a complete set of power lances.

Maximus Contemptor Dreadnought

Supporting the infantry are a Contemptor Dreadnought and a Sicaran Battle Tank packing the accelerator autocannon battery. For most Horus Heresy players, this is the bundle that covers the core of your army in one purchase, which is why these Battle Group boxes are one of the easiest ways into the game now.

Final Thoughts on the MkIV Space Marines for the Horus Heresy

The Bottom line is the Maximus Battle Group does what every one of the Battle Group boxes does best: it pulls fence-sitters into Horus Heresy without forcing them to buy four different kits separately and saves them some hobby dollars in the process.

So far, there is no official pre-order date yet for any of these releases, just a “soon” from Warhammer Community, so watch the next few Sunday Preview windows for that and the price tag.

Fortunately, the Liber Astartes Loyalist and the Liber Hereticus Traitor book already carry the rules, so you can throw down these new MkIV models without waiting for any additional rules to drop. The wider 2026 Horus Heresy roadmap now includes these and the new Whirlwind kit, so expect to see both in an early summer release window.
