Thinking about the Maximus Battle Group for Horus Heresy? We break down all the contents, release date, pricing, rules, and savings in one quick guide.
Besides the 6-fingered Space Marine art error on the cover, GW’s new Maximus Battle Group box is less “bundle” and more “that’s basically a starter army with all new armor marks.”
The big draw here is that it’s the first chance to get the brand-new plastic MkIV armor with 30 marines and some heavy support to go with all those new foot troops!
We’re breaking down what you get in the box and why each kit pulls its weight, how this shakes out for Horus Heresy players, and if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars.
- Maximus Battle Group is basically a starter army: new plastic Mk IV armor is the big selling point here.
- Release + price target: separate kits likely later in 2026; $220 USD box price releasing July 11th, 2026
- Value looks decent: estimated $316.50 MSRP total, about $61.50 savings if the $215 tag sticks.

Is The Maximus Battle Group Worth It?

That said, it’s not all brand-new plastic. The big stars are the MkIV Tactical Legionaries and MkIV Assault Legionaries, while the Contemptor Dreadnought and Sicaran Battle Tank have been out for a long time. So this is more of a launch box for the Maximus armor wave than a fully fresh sprue parade.
How Many Points Is This?
We would estimate the Maximus Battlegroup Box points at around 600.
What to Buy Next?

After that, look at the Horus Heresy weapon upgrade sets so those MkIV bodies can branch out into heavy support, special weapons, or a mean-looking command squad. A second Contemptor or another Sicaran also makes sense if you want the army to hit harder without losing that classic Legion armor-column vibe.
Final Thoughts From Us: Maximus Battle Group

Just don’t sleep on it too long if you want the new Tactical and Assault Legionaries early, because plastic MkIV Marines are exactly the kind of thing 30k players will absolutely swarm.
