Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and the Victrix Honour Guard return with “casual” new 40k Ultramarines codex rules and new models!

A new dawn rises over Ultramar, and it’s looking pretty heroic. Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and the brand-new Victrix Honour Guard kits are up for pre-order, and people are itching to throw the models on the table.

Instead of making everyone wait until release day, Games Workshop dropped a preview (legal for casual games) of their new 40k rules, and there’s a lot here for Ultramarines codex fans to get excited about.

Marneus Calgar Rules Level Up

Summarize Article:

Updated on October 24th, 2025, by Rob Baer with the latest rules.

MArneus Calgar RulesThe big man himself returns with a fresh battlefield twist. This version of Marneus Calgar rules can now Deep Strike and join Terminator or Assault Terminator squads, giving your Ultramarines codex a serious teleporting punch.

But bigger, he can act normally after falling back or advancing, so throw him into the fray and move wherever you need.

Marneus Calgar box artPairing him with the Crux Terminatus box dropping alongside him just makes sense. Calgar leading a wall of blue-clad Terminators straight into the fray? That’s the kind of cinematic moment we all want to see on the tabletop.

Worth mentioning: this isn’t a replacement for his Gravis armor version. You can run either one, just not both in the same army.

Cato Sicarius 40k Ultramarines Rules

Cato Sicarius RulesNew Cato Sicarius rules are here, and his Talassarian Tempest Blade now gives players real flexibility. He can pick from three combat styles: one for cracking elite enemies, one for cutting down hordes, and one for dueling champions. It’s a flavorful way to represent his duelist prowess.

He’s also rocking a brand-new ability to replace Lead From the Front and can now hang out with the Victrix Honour Guard, even if Calgar is already tagging along. The boys in blue clearly know how to coordinate with these new Ultramarines rules.

Victrix Honour Guard Rules are Tough and Loyal

Victrix Honour Guard RulesSpeaking of the Honour Guard, these new Vitrix Honour Guard rules are brutal. Each has four wounds, a built-in damage reduction ability when led by Calgar or a Captain, and the new “Surge move” that lets them lunge toward the nearest enemy when one of their comrades goes down.

So, not only are they hard to kill, but every casualty just makes them angrier.

They’ve got Objective Control 2, meaning they can muscle other elite units off points with ease. You can field them in squads of three or six, and while the datasheet technically allows for one, the points cost makes it clear that three’s the minimum (or at least that’s what the article says; the points will drop soon).

Victrix Honour Guard box artThe Chapter Champion and Chapter Ancient are back, too, both tagged as EPIC HEROES, which means only one of your squads can take them.

The Champion hits like a truck with Precision and Twin-linked on his blades of honor, while the Ancient’s banner gives the unit a once-per-game combat boost. Stack those buffs, and your opponents are going to feel it.

New Ultramarines Codex Rules Drop Timing Makes Total Sense

Cato SicariusThe rules for Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and the Victrix Honour Guard will officially land in the next Warhammer 40,000 downloads update, just after the World Championships of Warhammer (WCW) on November 6–9. That means they won’t be legal for the big tournament, a smart move that prevents confusion about what’s allowed on the biggest stage of the year.

It’s nice to see GW’s studio, events, and rules teams actually coordinating for once. No mixed messages, no “maybe legal” debates, just clean timing that keeps everyone on the same page.

Captain with Jump Pack and Relic ShieldThere’s also a small update coming for the Captain with Jump Pack, officially making the chainsword-and-storm shield combo legal in matched play. Until then, casual players can field it freely, and competitive legality will follow right after the WCW wraps up.

Final Thoughts on New Ultramarines Codex Rules

Between Calgar’s redeployment flexibility, Sicarius’ new dueling tricks, and the Honour Guard’s mix of durability and aggression, Ultramarines Codex rules are giving players some real depth back into their lists.

Plus, maybe best of all, when the pre-orders arrive, you can start playing right off the bat.
