OPR Adds New Vehicle Rules Warhammer Players May Actually Like

OPR Monster and Vehicle Rules

One Page Rules Vehicles & Monsters finally fit in skirmish armies, so you can field a dragon or a walker without “breaking” your game.

For years, skirmish players have wanted a way to bring the big stuff along, and now One Page Rules has finally made it happen. Vehicles & Monsters can join your smaller games without needing to hack the rules to make them fit.

Anyone who’s watched OPR carve out its own corner of the hobby knows the setup by now: free rules (on one page), 3D-printable armies, and a crew that keeps reshaping how miniature games work by paying attention to the people actually playing them.

A Firefight, 40k-styled game, or an Age of Fantasy: Skirmish game can now fit a proper monster, vehicle or walker, including the sort of model that used to stay on the shelf because there wasn’t really a place for it. Better yet, it’s totally optional. If you want your skirmish game to stay small and scrappy, nobody’s forcing a dragon into the alleyway.

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • Vehicles & Monsters toggle: Army Forge picks up an optional switch that lets big models into skirmish armies.
  • Skirmification rework: the army builder ditched its points cap for a Tough(9)+ Hero and Tough(6)+ unit filter.
  • Bigger game size: a fresh larger option now joins small and standard for anyone who wants more models on the table.

One Page Rules Vehicles & Monsters Are Now Just a Checkbox in Army Forge

The nice part about this update is how little work this takes on the player’s end. Open Army Forge (OPR’s free list-building web app), and there’s a new Vehicles & Monsters box waiting for you. Tick it, and the builder makes every Hero at Tough(9) or higher available, including mount options, along with any unit at Tough(6) or higher.

So if you’ve had a painted dragon sitting around with nowhere to use it, it can now go straight into a Firefight roster. There’s no need to cook up house rules or negotiate with your opponent before the game. You click the option and build the list, which is the kind of low-fuss fix that keeps players eyeing OPR’s free rules over another GW box.

The Skirmification Change Under the Hood Is the Real Trick

The more interesting change is buried underneath that checkbox, though, as OPR generates its skirmish forces through a process it calls skirmification, and the builder no longer relies on a points cap to decide which units and options should stay out. Instead, it filters out any Hero at Tough(9) or higher and any unit at Tough(6) or higher.

OPR says the backend change shouldn’t affect most people’s normal games. What it does is give the Vehicles & Monsters option something clean to switch on and off.

Sure, that’s not the flashy part of the update, but it’s the bit that actually makes the whole thing work, which fits with how OPR has been changing these games all along.

A Bigger Game Size Finally Makes Room for the Bigger Stuff

OPR Monsters and VehiclesOPR also noticed that plenty of players weren’t comfortable pushing past the recommended standard game size, so the UI now has a larger game option sitting alongside small and standard. If that’s still not enough, custom sizes are still there.

A big monster dropped into a tiny skirmish can take over the whole game pretty quickly, so having a larger preset gives those models some room to work. It also makes the Vehicles & Monsters toggle an option people can actually build games around instead of something they try once for the novelty.

Final Thoughts on One Page Rules Vehicles and Monsters

Army Forge has always felt like something OPR keeps working on instead of declaring finished, and this is just another example of their dedication to the game. Vehicles & Monsters are the fun part of the update, while the skirmification changes and larger game size are what make the option work without turning every small game into a mess.

OPR keeps smoothing out the awkward bits as players run into them. If the next batch of changes follows the same pattern, it’ll probably come from whatever players are already asking for the loudest, which is a big part of why people keep 3D printing armies and using these rules for these games with Warhammer models in the first place.
