Independents move the bulk of GW’s trade business, and GW has changed its terms with those stores before in ways retailers felt pretty quickly.
Miniature of the Month gave the official shop something different: a recurring promotion that was tied directly to walking into a Warhammer store.
Which may be needed, honestly, when the FLGS down the road may sell the exact same boxed miniatures for less.
GW clearly isn’t abandoning that idea completely because another in-store offer is already coming in October. The interesting part will be whether it’s as easy as walking in and grabbing a free mini, or whether GW adds new, shall we say, “requirements.”
The Coins Survive September, but October is Still an Open Question
The original Reddit post also claimed the collectible coin promotion wasn’t ending, and for September, at least, the coins are still here.
The new coin celebrates the Ogor Mawtribes range with the sigil of the Great Maw and will be available while stocks last, alongside the Space Marine Scout. But as of now, GW hasn’t said in this announcement what happens to collectible coins after September.

If this turns to be true, I can offer some insight into the reason. Many of the free models had to be snipped from existing multi-part plastic sprues. For smaller one-man Warhammer stores this can be a hardship.
It can take hours to snip enough models to fill whatever the quota was, probably one hundred or more per store. Then there is the issue of keeping bits organized, with the correct parts needing to be included for each model. It is a substantial effort that needs to be done outside business hours.
