Nova Open 2026 has no GW Warhammer preview listed, and the empty event calendar signals another big change.
The lack of a Nova Open preview for 2026 speaks volumes on its own. Sadly, once again this year, regardless of what the folks on YouTube are wishlisting, there’s no Warhammer preview anywhere on the event calendar.
Honestly, we’ve seen this routine before becasue GW bailed on their last Nova preview (and turned it into a night with Games Workshop), after pulling the plug on the 2025 LVO, Warhammer Day, Tacoma Open and GenCon reveals and then the Dallas Open previews last year as well.
So, after watching these disappear, another missing preview for this year doesn’t feel random to us at all…

GW Has Spent the Year Quietly Killing Its Event Previews

GW obviously isn’t going to come out and announce that some convention previews aren’t a priority anymore, but the pattern is getting pretty hard to miss. These previews keep disappearing without much explanation from GW.
The other problem is that once GW drops one of these event previews, we haven’t seen much evidence that it’s eager to bring it back the following year. Those previews simply stop happening.
An Empty Calendar This Close to the Event Is the Answer

GW usually isn’t subtle when it’s got a real preview to promote either. You’d expect to see it on the event calendar, get some kind of tease through Warhammer Community, and probably land in the Wednesday night window they’ve used before. This time around, none of that has happened.
With Nova getting close, that absence is hard to just shrug off. GW doesn’t usually keep a full preview secret right up until showtime, and 2024’s Nova Open showed how quickly those details normally start appearing.
Could GW still drop something at the last minute? Sure. But we’re well past the point where an empty calendar looks like somebody simply forgot to update the page.
Wishlists Are Loud, But GW’s Habits Are Louder
Plenty of hobbyists and influencers have Nova circled as the next obvious place for a big reveal, and it’s easy to see why. There haven’t been many major event previews lately (and no 40k pre-order for 4 weeks), so naturally people are looking for the next show to fill that gap.
The problem is that hoping Nova gets a preview doesn’t put it on the schedule, and GW has spent the year pushing FOMO while cutting back on the convention reveals that used to give everyone something to watch together.
Even if something does appear at Nova, there’s no guarantee it’ll be genuinely new. The 2026 roadmap already has plenty of kits that have been previewed and are still waiting for their turn on the release schedule. A Nova “reveal” could easily end up being another look at models we’ve already seen, dressed up to push people toward buying before they sell out. Based on the way things have been going, we’d put money on that before expecting a pile of brand-new surprises.
Final Thoughts on Nova Open 2026
If GW were planning a proper Nova Open preview this year, there should be some sign of it by now. Instead, the calendar is still blank, which fits right in with the studio steadily dropping these event previews over the last year.
Right now, the smarter place to watch is wherever GW still consistently puts reveals. Look for the next Warhammer Narrative preview in November, because that’s where the actual announcements have been showing up while the convention schedule gets thinner.
If Nova suddenly proves all of this wrong, we’ll update it. Until then, that empty calendar is doing a pretty convincing job of answering that question altogether.

What do you think? Has GW quietly retired the Nova Open preview (among others) for good?
I’m wondering if this trend has anything to do with security and potential leaks. It’s possible that some leaks originate from GW exposing some of its IT resources on external networks, such as whatever is made available to attendees of these gaming and hobby events. The computer hardware carried by GW employees at these events could have been a potential target too.
The actual reason NOVA is failing, this article has not mentioned is the miniature painting artists and community boycotting the con!
NOVA was known, up until last year , as the beloved con of mini painters, due to the lack of brand restrictions like Golden Demon imposes. Which I will give credit to AdeptiCon for allowing other competition like Resin Beast and Monument’s ‘Miniatures As Art Expo’! Last year the NOVA open attendees voted for a community model that was then censored and taken down by the board of director. The president of NOVA resigned as the board was set to vote him off for sticking up for artists and all marginalized communities!
Now ARTISTS have been telling each other to not attend the NOVA Open, and wargamers who support freedom of speech and expression are not going either ! GW has nothing to do it, I know dozens of teachers, event organizers, and volunteers who are no longer helping with the event, some of them put more than a decade of their life into. It’s so saddening to see it go, we will miss having an event on the East Coast. But there are promising events on the horizon, Pigment in Austin Texas had it’s inaugural show is focused solely on mini painting as is the Baltimore Miniature Art show which will have it’s first year next summer!
Additionally, the painter who made that original piece that the community awarded at NOVA, and started the boycott movement, is having a mini painting competition to raise money for charity, you should interview him – Andrew @stepdadcreative
I am also very aware of that situation, and it is extremely disappointing. However, it has nothing to do with GW’s change of direction in previews there or at their own events, or even at ones like LVO.
