Thousand Sons 40k Combat Patrol Review

Combat Patrol Thousand SonsThis Combat Patrol is basically the Thousand Sons starter kit in its purest form: psychic pressure, layered tricks, and a bunch of units that want to dictate the pace of the game instead of reacting to it.

For CP games, the Thousand Sons combat patrol rules let you run the box as a self-contained list right out of the gate, so you can get it on the table fast without needing extras.

Thousand Sons Combat Patrol List Price By Region: $170 (US), $200 (Canada), $285 (Australia), £100 (UK), €130 (EU)

Models Unit Name Value
1 Tzaangor Shaman $39
3 Tzaangor Enlightened $60
10 Rubric Marines $65
1 Daemon Prince  $89
Combat Patrol: Thousand Sons
  Total MSRP:  $253
  Savings Versus Box Price: $83

Is the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol Worth It?

thousand sons factionIf you actually need what’s in the box, especially the Daemon Prince and a core of Rubric Marines, this is one of the better value Combat Patrols we’ve seen lately. You’re more or less getting a Daemon Prince for free, so if you need some Rubrics, this is awesome.

Rules-wise, the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol leans hard into what the faction does best: psychic pressure, tricky positioning, and turning the mid-board into a problem your opponent has to solve right now. It’s not trying to reinvent the codex, but it does stick the landing on the Thousand Sons game plan: control the tempo, stack the buffs, and watch things melt when the dust settles.

What Can You Play Out of the Box? (Combat Patrol Rules vs 40k Points)

Combat Patrol is its own sandbox, so you’re not really buying this box to hit a perfect points number. But if you’re planning to fold these models into regular Warhammer 40k, the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol contents tend to come out to roughly the 500-point range, depending on the latest points update.

What to Buy Next After the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol

Well, you have a lot of the melee heavy hitters with this box, but you need to decide which detachment you want to play. You can always grab a bunch more Rubric Marines, Scarab Occult Terminators, vehicles, and heroes to maraud across the battlefield, or get some Daemons and all the Tzaangors you could want! Also, how can you go wrong with Magnus the Red

Of course, if you can find the Warpflame Thrallband Battleforce, that would be worth it as well!

OOP 2022 Version:

Thousand Sons Combat Patrol

The out-of-print 2022 Thousand Sons CP is the older box people still point to when they’re debating “odd” Combat Patrol value. It was a very specific vibe: a solid Rubricae core backed by an Infernal Master, with a big pile of Tzaangors to flood the board and do the dirty work while the real magic happens behind them. But… with so many Tzaangors, people didn’t exactly love this box.

Thousand sons Combat Patrol 2

Models Unit Name Value
5 Scarab Occult Terminators  $62.50
20 Tzaangors (with upgrade sprues) $130
1 Infernal Master $42
OOP: Combat Patrol
  Total MSRP: $234.50
  Savings Versus Box Price: $66.50

Final Thoughts on the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol

thousand sons combat patrol

The new Thousand Sons Combat Patrol box is basically Warhammer’s version of a mic drop. It’s got big names, brutal hitters, and a Daemon Prince who’s clearly not here to negotiate. If you’re building up a Chaos army or just need an excuse to add more blue-stained plastic to your backlog, this set does the job, and then some.

Is it the most budget-friendly CP box out there? It’s near the top. Between the solid savings and the sheer cool factor of these units, it’s definitely one of the better ones we’ve seen recently.
