GW’s Big “Sell Out” Plan Didn’t Work For The Defiler, RIP

40k allocations products for eye of terror update

Product allocations from Games Workshop are hitting 40k again, limiting stock and frustrating players. Here is what it means for new releases and your ability to find them now.

Allocations are back for the new Warhammer 40k Eye of Terror releases, and while these aren’t the worst allocations we’ve seen (Games Workshop calls them “caps”), they will make finding some of these kits super hard.

If you want to grab the following new releases, it may be challenging for certain items. Here’s the latest on this week’s pre-orders.

Latest Games Workshop Product Allocations For New Releases

Updated on April 7, 2026, by Rob Baer with new information and links to relevant content.

To be fair, these Eye of Terror releases are in line with some of the rougher caps we’ve seen lately. But we think that when major 40k products are being allocated to around half a dozen copies each, either Games Workshop is experiencing exponential growth or its forecasting team is inept.

Either way, since October of 2023, Games Workshop has been leaving millions upon millions of dollars in profits on the table each month, letting down their customers and shareholders (if they even notice) alike.

All the stores and distributors we polled in our network of retailers reported that their orders were once again slashed for many of the new releases this week, lending further weight to the idea that there really doesn’t seem to be any traditional “new releases” available from Games Workshop anymore.

Here are the caps that were told to stores for April 4th’s pre-orders

  • around 6 of the new Defiler kits
  • around 6 Iron Warriors Combat Patrols
  • around 6 Eye of Terror Sons of Dorn Battalions

GW’s Sellout Strategy Might Not Be Working This Time

Defiler Still in stockIt looks like GW’s plan may have backfired here. Nearly two days after pre-orders went live, these still haven’t sold out! And it appears customers can only pre-order one at a time, with no option to add multiples, which is probably making it harder for them to sell out.

Obviously, most of us would rather just be able to order all the new stuff we want instead of dealing with allocations, limited quantities, and out-of-stock headaches, but GW’s usual business model seems built around making everything sell out fast.

Right now, that does not seem to be working the way they probably wanted. If we had to guess, there could be a lot of these still sitting in GW’s warehouse, which means game stores might be getting calls from GW soon about more availability and extra stock, or they may just dump them to a liquidator, and someone like Flipside Gaming will have 100 listed at a premium price on their eBay store soon.

GW’s Allocations and What it All Means

Sadly, that’s just the state of things lately for popular products like the Defiler. But honestly, seeing such small numbers of these Eye of Terror releases is just wild and sad. If GW wants people to actually buy the new kits instead of waiting for restocks months down the road or paying scalper prices, we’d think they would make plenty available…

However, it seems like, from Games Workshop’s perspective, it’s just retail business as usual.

We’re not saying it’s a full-on Heresy-level crisis, but let’s say the allocations make it look like GW’s Board of Directors is worshipping at the altar of scarcity this week, instead of actually doing their homework on product forecasting.

Either way, between the tiny numbers and the vanishing availability of new releases for popular products, it’s getting harder each week to tell whether it’s Warhammer launch day or just cleverly disguised FOMO.

It’s not good when a player can’t get there gw merch by IE card packs or battle force box’s but by limiting the numbers people and shops can pre-order might make to harder for the Scalpers from buying in a load of gw model set’s or box seats and mission deck’s and selling them online at a crazy way over the odds on price’s

It’s cause of the scalpers that they are capping it

The scalpers? So they cap order volume to game stores, because of the scalpers? Walk me though how that works?

Scalpers buy a load of something then sell it on eBay for double or even triple it’s value I’ve been looking for Lucius and lord cacofanist for emperor’s children and cheapest on eBay is about £60 plus depending on how hard it is to find is reflective of the price thay charge

That is why some of us have stopped buying GW and are printing our own figures for our games.
