New Arks of Omen 40k Box Set Values Still a Hot Mess

40k-boarding-patrols-are-they-worth-itHere’s the savings and value breakdown of the three new Warhammer 40k Boarding Patrol box sets for the Grey Knights, Necrons, and Tyranids from Arks of Omen!

This is the second set or wave of Boarding Patrol box sets we’ve seen so far, and while the Space Marines one sells for $110, we’re not sure if they are all going to go for the same price. These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes made specifically to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers.

We’ll check out the value and see if it seems feasible they all run for $110, or if GW will price them all separately.

New Arks of Omens Warhammer 40k Boarding Patrol Box Sets: What’s the Value?

The boxes come from this Warhammer Community Post.

Grey Knights Boarding Patrol Boxes

The Grey Knights, Necrons, and Tyranids have all mustered Boarding Patrol boxes to join the fun, three swift and adaptable forces ready for decisive action in the darkness of space. With the Mustering Rules available as a free download, you can build your box and get boarding right away!

As we said, the only box to come out has been priced at $110, but we can’t be sure they will all be the same price. Still, the boxes this time are pretty interesting when it comes to the contents.

Necrons Boarding Patrol Box

Grey Knights Combat Patrol 2

The backbone of this Boarding Patrol are 10 Necron Warriors, a hard-to-shift line of self-reviving metal skeletons. They advance alongside 10 stalwart Lychguard – you can also build those models as Triarch Praetorians, but they’re not usable in Boarding Actions. Three Ophydian Destroyers add a lightning-fast melee threat to the mix, accompanied by their Canoptek Plasmacyte.

  • 10 Warriors $50
  • 10 Lychguard $110 ($55 for 5)
  • Ophydian Destroyers $60 (including Canoptek Plasmacyte)

Total MSRP: $220

Savings versus (estimated) $110 box price: $110

Is the Necrons Boarding Patrol Worth It?

If this actually goes for $110, then this has insane value! You would basically get both boxes of Lychguard for free. When compared to the Space Marines box, it has basically double the value.

It really comes down to price, but if this goes for $110, it will be a no-brainer for Necron players who need the models inside!

Tyranids Boarding Patrol Box

Grey Knights Boarding Patrol Boxes 3

Two squads of three highly customisable Tyranid Warriors provide an adaptable, formidable core to claim the Ark. Meanwhile, eight fast-moving Genestealers – fielded as a squad of five – act as an insidious vanguard to a towering Broodlord.

  • 6 Tyranid Warriors $120 ($60 for 3)
  • Genestealers $35
  • Broodlord $42

Total MSRP: $197

Savings versus (estimated) $110 box price: $87

Is the Tyranids Boarding Patrol Worth It?

This box seems more plausible at the $110 price point but still saves you a decent amount. Really, the meat of the box comes from the Warriors, so if you need six of them, this is probably worth the pickup.

However, if you already have all the warriors you need, it’s not really going to do much for you. That’s basically what it comes down to for this box, if you want Warriors, get it. If not, you may want to pass on this one.

Grey Knights Boarding Patrol Box

Grey Knights Boarding Patrol Boxes 2

The incorruptible Castellan Crowe leads five Grey Knights Terminators – who can also be built as elite Paladins. Backing them up are 10 Grey Knights – these versatile daemon-hunters can be built as teleporting Interceptors, fiery Purifiers, or skilled Strike Squads.

  • Grey Knights Terminators $55
  • 10 Grey Knights Interceptors, fiery Purifiers, or Strike Squads $65
  • Castellan Crowe $45

Total MSRP: $165

Savings versus (estimated) $110 box price: $55

Is the Grey Knights Boarding Patrol Worth It?

This box has the lowest value we’ve seen so far, and if you don’t need Crowe, you are basically paying retail (well, saving ten bucks). so, if you need every single model inside and haven’t picked up Crowe yet, then it will save you some cash.

However, if you don’t need even a single model inside, it really doesn’t save you much. So, in short, if you need everything inside, it is worth a pickup.
