GW Kills Off More Popular 40k Characters

The new 40k Drukhari codex cut big names like Urien Rakarth and Grotesques, sending them to Legends. Here’s what’s missing and why it keeps happening.

Updated October 9th, 2025, by Rob Baer with new information on the Drukhari,

The shadow of Commorragh just got a little darker. The 10th edition Drukhari codex shows five long-standing units missing in action. And yes, that usually means they’re headed straight for Legends.

This time, it’s not just fringe kits either (but plenty of finecast). Some classic names and playstyles are on the chopping block.

So, who’s gone? Let’s break it down.

The Fallen of Commorragh

Summarize Article:

grotesqueThe new 40k points confirm that Beast Packs, Beast Masters, Grotesques, Urien Rakarth, and the Court of the Archon are all absent from the new codex.

Drukhari Legends

That’s five entries, many of them dating back to the 3rd edition book, quietly shuffled out of the Drukhari roster.

  • Grotesques – long a staple of Coven armies, now wiped from the datasheets.
  • Urien Rakarth – the twisted Haemonculus overlord himself, gone.
  • Court of the Archon – no more exotic bodyguards at your Archon’s side.
  • Beastmaster and Beast Packs – Clawed Fiends, Khymerae, and Razorwing flocks have all been cut loose.

Why These Drukhari Legends Hurt

Urien RakarthThe sting is sharpest for Coven players. With Grotesques and Urien gone, the Coven side of the codex shrinks to a skeleton crew: Wracks, Talos, Cronos, and Haemonculi. The grotesque wall that once defined the subfaction is now only a memory.

Grotesques have been nearly impossible to buy for years (most people converted theirs), and many players hoped GW would finally update them into plastic. Instead, they’ve been sent packing.

The Court of the Archon hasn’t been the same since it was condensed into a single unit rather than customizable picks. This is the final nail.

And for the Beast Packs, everything was still resin or Finecast. Rather than resculpt, GW’s solution is simple: delete.

Is There Hope for Drukhari Legends in 11th Edition?

vectThere’s a silver lining hiding in the shadows. Rumors are swirling that the Drukhari are lined up for a massive range refresh in 11th edition. If that’s true, we might see Grotesques return in plastic, Beast Packs reborn with new sculpts, and Corsairs joining the lineup.

And if Lady Malys can make it back into the spotlight in 10th edition, who’s to say Asdrubael Vect isn’t waiting to make his grand comeback in the next refresh? The Archon of Archons has been “coming soon” since he left. Maybe this time the whispers are true.

Final Thoughts on the New 40k Drukhari Legends

If you own these models, they’re still legal in friendly games and Legends play. Keep fielding them if you love them, but don’t expect them to show up in competitive play or matched play events.

For those eyeing new kits, focus on the core roster: Raiders, Venoms, Warriors, Wyches, Incubi, and the streamlined Coven picks. That’s where GW is clearly steering the faction.

Sure, the Drukhari codex cuts sting, but they’re nothing new in GW’s pattern of clearing out resin and finecast.

Legends keeps the door cracked for those who already own the minis, but if you’re chasing the competitive scene, it’s time to shift focus to the core lineup.

Commorragh feeds on change, and history shows the Dark City always finds a way to claw back into the spotlight. The real question isn’t if these Legends will return, but what twisted new form they’ll take when they do.

Frustration is a considerable part of the hobby. Dropped models or game lines, rules changes, price hikes, limited editions, limited quantities & bad dice roles…yet still we love it.
