10th Edition Warhammer 40k Starter Set & Release Rumors

10th-Edition-40k-warhammer-rumors-1More rumors for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k coming in 2023 alongside a new starter set, World Eaters, and Space Marines for days!

There has actually been a decent amount of rumors out there about 10th edition Warhammer 40k that supposedly will drop next summer (in 2023). However, some of these new rumors contract previous ones, as well as the established path to market offerings that have worked previously for Games Workshop.

That being said these are all rumors, but a lot of them, given Games Workshop’s previous track record, make sense…

Is 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Really Coming in 2023?

space-marines-codex-money

GW has kept to a 3-year cycle for new editions as of late (since 2014 for Warhammer 40k specifically). Now with how many books are already out, there is a chance near the middle of 2023 we could easily 10th edition Warhammer 40k drop. However, the most likely thing to signal the close of 9th edition will be the release of more Space Marines books this fall.

Here is how they released in 8th edition before we went to 9th as an example of what may be in store for us later on in 2022…

  • Space Marines (2nd Edition) August 2019
  • Ultramarines (Space Marines) August 2019
  • White Scars (Space Marines) August 2019
  • Iron Hands (Space Marines) September 2019
  • Ravenguard (Space Marines) September 2019
  • Imperial Fists (Space Marines) October 2019
  • Salamanders (Space Marines) October 2019

The biggest clue we have to the release date of the World Eaters Codex and new miniatures is a comparison of the Death Guard release of 2017, and the Necron release of 2020. Both of which were fully released later in the fall of 2017, and 2020 respectively.

There is also a good chance Games Workshop will release the World Eaters similar to the sisters, with an Army box release followed months later by separate stand-alone waves of releases. If that is the case we could also see them in the fall of 2023 as well.

So either way, it looks like the World Eaters may just be the hot new release of 10th Edition 40k in 2023, with Space Marines being the fall release.

However new rumors suggest that may not be the case, or perhaps support that assumption with a delayed-release schedule…

10th Edition Warhammer 40k Starter Set & Release Rumors

gw-rumors space marines horNew rumors for 10th Edition 40k were spotted on Reddit that seem to both confirm and deny previous rumors for Space Marines, World Eaters and more…

Burner account

Space Marines 2.0 codex in 2023
– adds jump assault infantry in a shadowspear style release with World Eaters
– “primaris” terminators held back for 10th edition

10th Ed starters feature Blood Angels and Tyranids:
– new “primaris” terminators; jump death company; captain; sanguinary priest
– broodlord, new genestealers, macrofex, hypergants, zoanthrope HQ

Blood Angels faction release:
– Sanguinor (Primarch / avatar of sanguinius), lots of cherubs
– Dante (model has been ready since 2019)
– Death Company chaplain
– Furioso Redemptor
– Sanguinary guard
– Upgrade sprue

Tyranids:
– Macrofex
– Old One Eye (macrofex size)
– Hypergant swarms (105mm base)
– New genestealers
– New hormaguants

The big takeaway here is that it seems that a major Space Marines release may have been pushed back to early 2023 from previously rumors fall of 2022. Perhaps the smaller chapter supplements could release first in the fall to drum up hype, then the main 2.0 book could drop along with the rumored new model releases we have seen some images for already.

A new starter pitting Blood Angels vs. Tyranids again like the 2014 shield of Baal Deathstorm set (25 miniatures for $125) would be pretty cool to see. Plus we’re sure Tyranids players would gobble up new Genestealer models as well.

RUMORS: Which New Releases Will Fall Into 9th & 10th Editions of 40k

gw-rumors-and-new-releases roadmap

These are the latest rumors from Reddit. Some of them line up with previous rumors and some don’t.

This is a burner acc.

The next codex is Votann.

Then Kill Team – set on a space hulk, it’s new kasrkin vs Genestealers (old kit with upgrade sprew)

Then guard codex.

Then world eaters with Angron.

After that we are getting space marine 2.0 with chapter supplements (no new chapter specific models) in 2023. This launch will be with Primaris “terminators” (gravis marines with classic load outs and a take on the classic helmets), missile Primaris devastator (not their name) squad, and melee oriented dreadnought.

The launch of 10th will be nids with a range refresh like the necrons saw. Opposite them in the launch box will be generic space marines with jump pack assault troops and a jump captain (there is likely more units in the box)

Warhammer 40k Rumors: 10th Edition Reactions & Fate of Space Marines

We had already heard some of these rumors about Warhammer 40k 10th Edition; however, ther are some even spicier details in these new ones.

According to Faeit, things may change greatly for everyone’s favorite super humans.

Warhammer 40k gets a hard reset at Summer next Year.

10th Edition will start with Index-like Codex Books.

GW will streamline the ruleset and make it even easier. Unit Profiles will get simplified and the Armies will focused more on Themed Armies. Stratagems will play a bigger role in List build.

There will be no alternated unit activation but reaction from the HH ruleset comes over to 40k.

Space Marines will get split. “First Born” Marines will be not removed from 40k; thy remain as a sub faction for all Chapters. They will resupplied with HH Sets. We can await Marines in Mk5 and Mk7 Power Armour also for the M41. There will be seperate Codices for Primaris and Old Marines in the future.

Either way, all these new rumors point to 10th edition Warhammer 40k and potentially new Space Marines dropping soon.

Check out the latest rumors about the rest of the 9th and 10th Edition Warhammer 40k  new releases, including the next 40k Primarch, Leagues of Votann, Space Marines, and more!

A New Warhammer 40k Primarch:

The confusion is that the generic marines are painted as blood angels as they’re going to poster boy the launch, along with Dark Angels and both will see large Primaris centric updates (including a lion model). It’s going to be a launch focussed in imperium nihilus with “angels of death” codex nostalgia

Edit: typo

Edit 2: Obviously I know Demons exist, I just personally haven’t seen anything specific about their release. They’ll probably be out before space marine 2.0

Whew, so we know the loyalists are outgunned on the primarch side of things, but it looks like the Lion may make a return to Warhammer 40k according to these rumors.

However, with all the recent previews for Leagues of Votann, we could easily see them being next. Kasrkin vs. Genestealers could also make sense for Kill Team as we have already seen the new Kasrkin minis. So, once that comes out, it also makes sense for Guard to get a codex.

genestealers gw

Once you go past that, GW put out a ton of Space Marines right before 9th, so that all looks good so far (and we’ve seen rumor engines for that type of Space Marine which you can see here). Then, Tyranids do really need a big update model-wise, and since they didn’t get one in 9th it could make perfect sense for 10th.

They said they don’t know when daemons will come, but it will most likely just be a small release somewhere along the line.

What Codex Books Are Next For Warhammer 40k:

chaos-wal-hor-space-marines-word-bearers-dark-apostleForm new Daemons and Imperial Guard codex books seem the most likely candidates.

After that? It’s hard to say mainly because they haven’t released too many teasers yet. Still, we have seen Leagues of Votann, but maybe before them, we’ll hopefully get the existing books taken care of.

So with that, let’s look at what is still to come:

  • Chaos Space Marines (Released)
  • Imperial Guard
  • Daemons
  • Various Space Marine Chapters (6 like before?)
  • Space Marines 2.0 (like before)
  • Inquisition/Assassins (if not White Dwarf fodder again)
  • Leagues of Votann (will most likely make it before 10th)

This isn’t in exact order but could be close. However, with so many books left, and 2023 as the tentative date for 10th edition Warhammer 40k, World Eaters look like they will be pushed back.

However, we have plenty of other rumors for World Eaters as well, but most notably, a plastic Angron!  Either way, all these new rumors point to 10th edition Warhammer 40k and potentially new Space Marines dropping soon inside a starter set again!

Here’s the most up-to-date list of new Games Workshop bits from preview models that we should watch out for. Click on the gallery above to see dozens of Rumor Engines with new models still left to be revealed!

Are you excited for a 40k codex book of just World Eaters and do you think we’ll see 10th Edition Warhammer 40k in 2023 like the rumors suggest?
