Duncan Rhodes is back again and this time he’s teaching us how to paint a non-GW model for the first time ever- an Imperial Stormtrooper!
Duncan is continuing to put out well-polished painting tutorials at a nice pace. In the first video tutorial from his new painting academy, he painted a Sister of Battle. However, this time around, we’re jumping into the Fantasy Flight Games line with a Stormtrooper from Star Wars Legion.

Duncan Rhodes Paints an Imperial Stormtrooper Tutorial
Duncan starts off the video using some Citadel primer. But if you look in the background, he’s beginning to branch out into some Army Painter colors!
Interestingly enough, he uses Contrast paint to fill the recesses on the white model. But he doesn’t stop there.
Where most painters might call it quits after the layer of Contrast is thrown on, he goes back over the flat surfaces with an off-white Ulthuan Grey.
From there he highlights the edges with some Army Painter whites. Sticking to the most-raised surfaces, it really drew out the definition of the model.
Finally, to add more depth, he went back and filled in the under-armor of the model with Necromancer Cloak and painted the model up to fit Tattooine’s division.
The finished product is another awesome mini more than ready for the tabletop! Overall, Duncan’s videos are really in-dept. Instead of GW’s fast-paced videos where they only show you how to do a few things, Duncan is able to take his time and really talk about different angles of the minis as well as what he recommends doing as your paint dries.
