Games Workshop hands out a free Warhammer mini every month, but there’s usually a catch. Here’s the new model lineup, coin, and exactly how to claim yours.
Ever since 2019, Games Workshop has given away a free miniature at its stores with no purchase required. Getting the model is usually straightforward: show up, ask a staff member, and grab one while stocks last.
GW has now revealed its new offer. Starting Saturday, October 10, 2026, Warhammer stores will run a staff-led activity where hobbyists can build and/or paint one of eight miniatures and learn more about its faction. The eight models will also be restocked in stores, so GW says hobbyists don’t need to worry about missing out on day one.
The collectible coin offer is a different story, though, since GW keeps adding more requirements to qualify for one, and simply says to ask the store manager how you can get hold of them now.
What’s the Free Mini of the Month Right Now?

How to Actually Claim Your Free Mini
GW says to drop in and speak with a staff member to find out how to join in, so it sounds like the minis are still “free” if you stay and do an in-store activity.
You can use the activity to test a new color scheme, take a first step toward starting one of those armies, or get help with a painting technique. GW specifically calls out the Chaos Warrior for practicing fur and the Deathrattle Skeleton for trying weathered metal or decaying cloth.
This Month’s New Collectible Coin is a Two-Fer
This go-around, October gets two collectible coins. The first features the symbol of Ulgu, the Realm of Shadow, and is available from Saturday, October 3, followed by a Warhammer Tone Pro-themed coin on Saturday, October 24.
Pick ‘n’ Mix Paints Stack on the Same Trip
GW is also running the in-store Pick ‘n’ Mix paint deal alongside the Mini of the Month, which is a nice little value for players grabbing a bunch of paints. Buy any 10 Citadel paints in-store, and the most expensive pot in the batch is free.
Fortunately, the in-store Pick ‘n’ Mix paint offer is still running alongside the new activity. Choose any 10 Warhammer Color paints and the most expensive one is free.
Hobbyists can also try the new Warhammer Tone Pro range in stores and see how the paints work across different techniques. All 150 new paints will be available on shelves from Saturday, October 24.
Bring a Friend, Stack the Freebies
GW also says friends can join the recently revamped Battle Honors program, with hands-on activities covering the three key areas of the hobby: Build, Paint, and Play, with help from store staff.
So, if you’ve got a friend who has been thinking about the hobby since 11th Edition landed, that’s a pretty solid first-session pitch without asking them to buy in on day one.

Is the Warhammer Mini of the Month actually free?
GW’s October announcement doesn’t describe the new offer as the traditional free Miniature of the Month. Instead, it says hobbyists can take part in a staff-led activity using one of eight miniatures. GW doesn’t list a purchase requirement in the announcement, but it also doesn’t call the new setup a straight walk-in free miniature giveaway.
What day does the new mini of the month come out?
GW’s new in-store miniature activity starts Saturday, October 10. Unlike the old monthly drop, GW says the eight available miniatures will be restocked in stores, so October 10 isn’t your only shot at taking part, and they should always be available on any day during the month, in theory.
Do you need Warhammer+ to get the free mini?
Nope. The store Mini of the Month and Warhammer+ are two different things. GW’s announcement for the new October store activity doesn’t mention Warhammer+ as a requirement. Starting October 10, GW simply says to drop into your local Warhammer store and speak with a staff member to find out how to join in.
What’s the catch with the collectible coin?
Coins are only available while stocks last, and GW says to ask your store manager how to get them.

Final Thoughts on Warhammer’s Free Mini of the Month
With GW replacing the old Miniature of the Month setup with a broader in-store hobby activity, the bigger question is what this turns into over the next few months.
If the rotating model selection stays well stocked and the staff-led format actually gives players more chances to build, paint, and try new factions, it could end up being more useful than a single monthly freebie. Conversely, if availability gets spotty or the offer starts picking up more hoops, though, hobbyists will notice fast.
October is the first real test of whether if this new format works, or if players miss the simplicity of walking in and grabbing one free mini.
