Warhammer Miniature of the Month: June’s Coin Comes With a $290 Catch

Free Warhammer miniature of the month May 2026 Leagues of Votann Yaegir
June’s Warhammer Miniature of the Month is a free Saurus Warrior, but the Armageddon coin is locked behind a $290 box buy.

The free Saurus is the easy part, but this month’s collectible coin isn’t sitting at the counter for free; you’ve got to pony up for the Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon box to walk out with one.

That puts June’s warhammer mini of the month in a weird spot, because half of it is the usual free-mini handout every store regular knows the drill on, and the other half is gated behind a $290-ish launch box that hasn’t even hit shelves yet.

Games Workshop confirmed both, with Seraphon players getting the Saurus Warrior as the free mini and Warhammer 40k players getting the Armageddon coin tied to the 11th Edition launch box.

So if you’ve been showing up for the free mini every month, this one still has the free mini. The new part is the coin, and that is the part that will cost you big time.

The Free Saurus Warrior Is The Easy Half

Updated on June 1, 2026 by Rob Baer with the latest promo from GW.

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • Free Saurus Warrior: walk into your local Warhammer store, ask, and your store hands you the June mini while stocks last.
  • Armageddon coin: the collectible coin is locked to a purchase of the Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon box, with pre-orders opening June 6th and the box releasing June 20th.
  • Bring-a-friend perk: a new-hobbyist guest gets a free Infernus or Liberator, a painting tutorial, and a learn-to-play session for 40k or Age of Sigmar.

The Saurus Warrior is the freebie, and it’s the same handshake the program’s been running on for a while. Walk in, ask the manager and they hand you a Saurus model (while stocks last of course). GW says the model you get may differ from the one pictured, which is the usual fine print.

Saurus are the savage backbone of Seraphon armies, spawned to bulldoze enemy formations with strength and durability, and their tough hides work about as well as wrought armor. Sure that’s great lore, but for the hobbyist actually claiming the freebie, the better news is the paint scheme on the mini itself is wide open.

Saurus run from muted earth tones to kaleidoscopic hues, so this is one of those free models where a one-off paint test isn’t a waste of an hour. You don’t have to commit to a whole army to get a fun model painted up.

GW is also running its Pick ‘n’ Mix paints offer alongside this month’s mini. Grab any 10 paints in store and the most expensive one comes off the tab. So, if you were already paint shopping for the Saurus skin tone you actually want, that’s a little cushion on the bill.

The Armageddon Coin Is The $290 Catch

Here is where June breaks the usual coin formula. The collectible coin features the Armageddon campaign badge, the same one showing up on several of the new Space Marine kits for 11th Edition. It looks great, but costs real money.

To claim the coin, you have to buy the Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon box from your local Warhammer store. Pre-orders open through the in-store order terminal on June 6th, and the box releases on June 20th. GW obviously recommends pre-ordering to lock yours in, which is the polite way of saying coin stock is finite and walk-ins on launch day are rolling the dice.

For context, every other coin in the program this year has been a handout to anyone shopping in store and spending just $100 which is a bummer but at least the Saurus mini is still free.

So if you’re a coin completionist running the GW promo coin checklist, this is the month the program quietly raises the price of entry from “spend a little cash on stuff you’re buying anyways” to “drop $290 on a launch box first.”

The Bring-A-Friend Side Quest Is The Sneaky Win

GW is also stacking up new-player perks while everyone’s in store for Armageddon. Bring a friend who’s new to Warhammer and they walk out with a choice between an Infernus Space Marine or a Stormcast Eternals Liberator, plus a free painting tutorial for their model and a free learn-to-play session for either 40k or Age of Sigmar.

GW free paint and take

That’s a stacked freebie for a first visit. A free mini, a free paint lesson, and a free game make June definitely the month to bring a friend into the hobby!

It also means your local store is going to be busier than usual on Armageddon weekend, so if you’re picking up the coin and the mini and showing a friend around, it’s better to plan the trip rather than swing by on a whim.

Final Thoughts on Warhammer Miniature of the Month for June

The coin-as-buy-gate move is an interesting escalation. Now, if GW is comfortable tying a collectible coin to a $290 launch box this month, the next big release with a campaign badge probably gets the same treatment. Fortunately, the free mini of the month program is still free; the coin program is the one quietly evolving into a launch-box upsell.

For Seraphon players, June is a clean win regardless, and for coin chasers, the calendar got a little more expensive. Either way,  last month’s Hernkyn Yaegir free mini was the last of the simple months, and the running Warhammer collectible coin checklist just got harder to complete on a budget.
