New Space Marines Legends rumors say Devastators, Tacticals, ATVs, Suppressors, Firestrikes, and the Razorback are all on the 11th edition chopping block.
Every time a new edition of 40k gets close, Space Marines players brace for the quiet (sometimes loud) pile of kits that’ll get escorted off to Legends, and 11th edition looks like it’s cueing up one of the biggest purges yet.
According to the latest rumors, this round of cuts doesn’t stop at Firstborn. Primaris units are on the list too, which turns what would’ve been a routine tidy-up into possibly the biggest Warhammer 40k Marine roster cut since last edition.
If you play Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, or any other Adeptus Astartes chapter, then you might want to run the rumored units in a few games (a last hurrah) before 11th edition 40k hits the table.
Either way, keep in mind that all of this is unconfirmed and false until confirmed by Games Workshop.
Firstborn Marines Finally Heading to Legends: Devastators and Tactical Squads
- Firstborn on the chopping block: Devastators and Tactical Squads are the big Firstborn cuts rumored for 11th edition Legends.
- Primaris units aren’t safe either: the Invader ATV is first in line, with the Firestrike Servo-Turret and Suppressors tipped to follow.
- Razorback is the wildcard: possibly tied to a bigger Rhino chassis rework rather than a straight Legends cut.
- Legends doesn’t mean unplayable: your models still work in casual, they just fall off tournament lists and the balance cycle.
- Rumor, not a rules update: nothing’s official until GW confirms, but the list is specific enough to plan around.
Honestly, this is the rumor that most of us saw coming. Devastators and Tactical Squads have been living on borrowed time ever since Hellblasters and Intercessors rolled out, and the Primaris Intercessor refresh confirmed in 11th edition looks like it closes the book on that transition.
The Tactical Squad was the flexible toolbox kit that defined Marine armies for decades, and the rumor is that GW’s just done supporting that loadout pattern.

Pushing them to Legends doesn’t remove the kit from anyone’s shelf, but it does mean they stop showing up in tournament events and stop receiving point updates.
That’s the GW side of models moving to Legends; they just drop off the tournament radar and the official balance cycle. The practical reality is that some hobbyists start treating these models like pariahs, and many never see them on the tabletop again.
Primaris Units Rumored for Legends: ATV, Firestrike, and Suppressors

Three units that are rumored for the Legends pile are:
- Invader ATV: the first Primaris unit rumored to go, and a lot of hobbyists felt the model never really looked like a Space Marine vehicle to begin with
- Firestrike Servo-Turret: a static gun emplacement that never caught on in lists or events, and nobody was especially loud about supporting it
- Suppressors: jump infantry that technically filled a role but never got the rules or the table time to justify a reprint
- Hammerfall Bunker: also never really saw play, or rules that made sense. This big piece of terrain is even harder to use within the new terrain layouts for 10th and 11th editions.

Will the Razorback Make it?

That would line up with the pattern we’ve already seen on Land Raiders and other long-running Marine tanks. A chassis-wide redesign is a bigger project than a straight Legends move, but it does explain why the Razorback would go sideways instead of straight to an early codex slot.
Plus, both the Land Raiders and Rhino chassis are well over 20 years old, which is “ancient” in Games Workshop years.
Final Thoughts: Space Marines Legends Rumors Cut Both Firstborn and Primaris
Sadly, every edition change tends to come with a quiet shelf-culling for Space Marines, but the Primaris side of this list is what makes it a little unusual.
For now, all we can do is watch the 11th Edition reveals for signs of what might fill these slots (or if GW tries to fill them at all), because the lineup of the first 11th Edition Space Marines release after the starter set is going to tell us what the post-Indomitus Marine range will actually look like.
Plus, if the Rhino chassis rework rumor is real, this list of retirees is just the opening act for a much bigger vehicle refresh down the line.
