GW Pulling The Plug on More Space Marines? New Legends Rumors

New Space Marines Legends rumors say Devastators, Tacticals, ATVs, Suppressors, Firestrikes, and the Razorback are all on the 11th edition chopping block.

Every time a new edition of 40k gets close, Space Marines players brace for the quiet (sometimes loud) pile of kits that’ll get escorted off to Legends, and 11th edition looks like it’s cueing up one of the biggest purges yet.

According to the latest rumors, this round of cuts doesn’t stop at Firstborn. Primaris units are on the list too, which turns what would’ve been a routine tidy-up into possibly the biggest Warhammer 40k Marine roster cut since last edition.

If you play Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, or any other Adeptus Astartes chapter, then you might want to run the rumored units in a few games (a last hurrah) before 11th edition 40k hits the table.

Either way, keep in mind that all of this is unconfirmed and false until confirmed by Games Workshop.

Firstborn Marines Finally Heading to Legends: Devastators and Tactical Squads

Updated April 28th, 2026, by Rob Baer with the latest Legends rumors.

TL;DR
  • Firstborn on the chopping block: Devastators and Tactical Squads are the big Firstborn cuts rumored for 11th edition Legends.
  • New rumors point to basically all of the Firstborn line being cut by GW.
  • Primaris units aren’t safe either: the Invader ATV is first in line, with the Firestrike Servo-Turret and Suppressors tipped to follow.
  • Razorback is the wildcard: possibly tied to a bigger Rhino chassis rework rather than a straight Legends cut.
  • Legends doesn’t mean unplayable: your models still work in casual, they just fall off tournament lists and the balance cycle.
  • Rumor, not a rules update: nothing’s official until GW confirms, but the list is specific enough to plan around.

Space Marine Tactical Squad

Honestly, this is the rumor that most of us saw coming. Devastators and Tactical Squads have been living on borrowed time ever since Hellblasters and Intercessors rolled out, and the Primaris Intercessor refresh confirmed in 11th edition looks like it closes the book on that transition.

Unfortunately, for Firstborn lovers, the newest rumors say Firstborn Space Marines may be getting pushed almost entirely off the main stage. There’s a good chance it’s not just Tactical Squads, Devastators, Suppressors, the ATV, and a few older Primaris units going to Legends. It could be every Firstborn unit, including classic vehicles like the Predator, Vindicator, Razorback, and possibly most Space Marine aircraft, too.

The Tactical Squad was the flexible toolbox kit that defined Marine armies for decades, and the rumor is that GW’s just done supporting that loadout pattern.

Devastator Squad Ultra01Devastators land in the same place. Heavy weapons in a Firstborn frame, in an edition where Hellblasters, Eradicators, and the Desolation Squad already cover every flavor of heavy fire a Marine list could want.

Pushing them to Legends doesn’t remove the kit from anyone’s shelf, but it does mean they stop showing up in tournament events and stop receiving point updates.

That’s the GW side of models moving to Legends; they just drop off the tournament radar and the official balance cycle. The practical reality is that some hobbyists start treating these models like pariahs, and many never see them on the tabletop again.

Space Marine Vehicle Legends Rumors Sound Like the Real Gut Punch

Space Marines PredatorThe Firstborn infantry rumors are already wild, but the vehicle side of this is where things get really rough for longtime Space Marine players. According to the rumor, it may not just be old squads getting sent to Legends.

Classic Space Marine vehicles could be on the chopping block, too, including the Predator, Vindicator, Razorback, and possibly some or all Space Marine aircraft models too.

However, both the Land Raider and Rhino are well over 20 years old, which is “ancient” in Games Workshop years.

There’s also a separate rumor floating around that GW may be reworking tracked Space Marine vehicles, with the Rhino supposedly first in line for an upgrade. Since the Predator, Razorback, Vindicator, and plenty of other old-school tanks are tied to that same Rhino-style chassis, this could be less of a total purge and more of a messy lead-in to a future refresh.

Still, if these vehicles do get dumped into Legends before replacements arrive, that’s going to sting. The Predator and Vindicator aren’t random vehicles; they’re some of the most recognizable Space Marine tanks in Warhammer 40k. Seeing them lose regular rules support, app updates, and balance attention would feel less like a clean range update and more like GW quietly parking a big chunk of Space Marine history out back.

Primaris Units Rumored for Legends: ATV, Firestrike, and Suppressors

Invader ATV whiteNow, the Primaris side of the Space Marine range is where this rumor list really widens out. That whole line was supposed to be the future of the faction, but GW has already mentioned that now it’s just Space Marines, not Primaris or Firstborn designations.

Three units that are rumored for the Legends pile are:

  • Invader ATV: the first Primaris unit rumored to go, and a lot of hobbyists felt the model never really looked like a Space Marine vehicle to begin with
  • Firestrike Servo-Turret: a static gun emplacement that never caught on in lists or events, and nobody was especially loud about supporting it
  • Suppressors: jump infantry that technically filled a role but never got the rules or the table time to justify a reprint
  • Hammerfall Bunker: also never really saw play, or rules that made sense. This large area of terrain is even harder to use in the new terrain layouts for the 10th and 11th editions.

firestrike servo turretSure, none of these would sting the way a Tactical Squad loss does, but the pattern is still worth mentioning. GW’s tightening the Primaris range itself, not just pushing Firstborn kits out. Which suggests the next codex aims for a sharper roster rather than the maximalist, everything-goes approach of the Indomitus era.

Final Thoughts: Space Marines Legends Rumors Cut Both Firstborn and Primaris

Sadly, every edition change tends to come with a quiet shelf-culling for Space Marines, but the Primaris side of this list is what makes it a little unusual.

For now, all we can do is watch the 11th Edition reveals for signs of what might fill these slots (or if GW tries to fill them at all), because the lineup of the first 11th Edition Space Marines release after the starter set is going to tell us what the post-Indomitus Marine range will actually look like.

Plus, if the Rhino chassis rework rumor is real, this list of retirees is just the opening act for a much bigger vehicle refresh down the line.
