Legio Custodes Battle Group Pre-Order

Legio Custodes Battle Group

The Ten Thousand have arrived in force, with the new Legio Custodes Battle Group, which bundles the new range into one launch box. If you have been waiting to start a Custodes force for the Age of Darkness, this is the cleanest on-ramp yet. It packs in a Shield Captain, Custodian Guard, Sentinel Guard, a Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought that can also be built as a Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnought, and a Caladius Annihilator grav-tank.

This is a box of Elite infantry, elite walkers, and elite tanks. No mystery there. The Custodes are not here to flood the table with bodies. They are here to look expensive, hit like a truck, and remind everyone why the Emperor kept these guys close at hand.

What Comes in the Legio Custodes Battle Group?

  • Shield Captain
  • Custodian Guard
  • Sentinel Guard
  • Contemptor-Achillus or Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnought
  • Caladius Annihilator grav-tank

Why the Custodes Battle Group Release Matters

This release is not just another faction box. It is the first real chance to grab all these new Adeptus Custodes kits together, which makes it a big moment for Horus Heresy players and Warhammer 40k collectors alike.

It also reinforces a wider trend in GW previews. They are continuing to give The Horus Heresy more faction identity through dedicated books, more specialized kits, and army bundles that feel like complete projects instead of random one-off releases.

Plus, Games Workshop said there would be 40k rules for these models as well.

Liber Custodes: Expands the Army Beyond Just the Models

Liber Custodes The Forces of the Emperor Army Book

If the Battle Group gets the attention, Liber Custodes: The Forces of the Emperor Army Book is the actual backbone of the release.

This 120-page hardback looks set to be the essential rules and lore book for anyone planning to field the faction. It covers the Legio Custodes, Anathema Psykana, and Divisio Assassinorum, while also supporting allied detachments for other Loyalist armies.

This book is not just for the die-hard Custodes player either. It also opens the door for players who want to add a smaller detachment of elite Emperor-aligned killers into a wider army list. That kind of flexibility usually helps a release stay relevant longer because it is not locked into a single narrow build path.

Glaive Super-Heavy Tank: Bring More Horus Heresy Armor to the Table

Glaive Super-heavy Special Weapons Tank

If the Custodes are the glamorous stars of the preview, the Glaive Super-heavy Special Weapons Tank is the big, angry tank nerd pick.

Built on the same chassis as the Fellblade, the Glaive swaps in a massive volkite carronade designed to shred heavily armored infantry formations. That alone makes it a standout piece for Legiones Astartes players who want a tank that looks like it was built to erase squads in one very rude volley.

GW also highlighted optional sponson weapons, including lascannon arrays, laser destroyers, and gravis heavy bolters, plus a giant Legiones Astartes Super-heavy Vehicle transfer sheet with 718 transfers. That transfer count is frankly absurd, which is exactly what you want for a giant Heresy tank.

Why the Glaive Stands Out

The Glaive fits one of the strongest themes in Horus Heresy right now. Big armor is cool again. Actually, big armor has always been cool, but now it is getting fresh support and more visibility in previews like this.

For players, the Glaive offers a brutal anti-infantry super-heavy option. For collectors, it is another huge resin-looking statement piece, minus the old headaches that usually came with giant kits from years past.

For painters, it is a giant canvas. Which also means it is a giant trap. One minute you are telling yourself you will keep the weathering simple, and the next thing you know, you are researching heat bloom on volkite barrels at one in the morning.

Journal Tactica: Mailed Fist Pushes Massive Tank Warfare

GW is also backing up the tank theme with Journal Tactica Mailed Fist: Legiones Astartes Super-heavy Tanks.

This 48-page softback dives into the background of Space Marine super-heavy armor and adds new unit profiles along with Leviathan Missions for large-scale, asymmetrical, multiplayer games.

That is a pretty smart pairing with the Glaive release. Instead of just dropping a giant tank kit and moving on, GW is also giving players fresh ways to use these armored monsters on the table. That helps sell the fantasy and the gameplay at the same time.

What Makes Mailed Fist Supplement Interesting?

The most important angle here is that this book is not just about lore. It adds game content designed for players who want battles to feel bigger, louder, and more ridiculous in the best possible way.

If you are the kind of hobbyist who thinks standard matched play is fine but really lights up when someone says “multiplayer tank battle,” then this supplement is aimed directly at you.

Warhammer MTO Pre-Order Releases

games-workshop-GW-MTO-wal-hor made to order

These models are available exclusively as a Made-to-Order release directly from Games Workshop this week. They are usually fulfilled within 180 days (6 months) of their availability window. So, if you want them, get your orders in by then!

Classic Orc and Goblin Tribes Return as Made-to-Order Releases

  • Black Orc Bigboss
  • Black Orc Command set
  • Unit of Black Orcs
  • Orc Boyz Command
  • Unit of Orc Boyz
  • Goblin Rock Lobber with crew

Made to Order Classic Orc and Goblin Tribes

Now for the nostalgia side of the preview.

Games Workshop is bringing back a wave of classic Orc and Goblin Tribes miniatures as Made to Order releases for Warhammer: The Old World. That includes a Black Orc Bigboss, a Black Orc Command set, packs of Black Orcs, Orc Boyz Command, a unit of Orc Boyz, and a Goblin Rock Lobber with crew.

For older hobbyists, this is pure catnip. These metal kits have that rough-edged old GW charm that newer plastic kits do not always replicate. They are chunky, characterful, and full of that old-school Warhammer energy where every model looks like it has been yelling at someone for at least three decades.

Why Made-to-Order Releases Still Very Much Matter

There is a real appetite for older sculpts (or Oldhammer), especially when they still have strong tabletop and display appeal.

There is also the usual Made-to-Order catch with this one. Orders open on Saturday and run through Monday, March 30th; delivery may take up to 180 days. So yes, you can order them now, but you may be painting them sometime around the next age of man.

Warhammer Color Pre-Order Hobby Releases

Warhammer colour banner image

Citadel Color is now Warhammer Color, and this week sees a slew of new hobby supplies and tools aimed at making your hobby time run as fast and smoothly as possible.

Warhammer Color Pre-Order: Tools Set

Warhammer Colour Tools Set

This is clearly aimed at beginners. Starter Clippers and a Starter Mouldline Scraper are about as basic as it gets, but that is the point. If you are trying to get someone into the hobby, having a simple, branded entry-level tool bundle is a pretty easy gift option.

Warhammer Dice Set

Warhammer Dice Set

A pack of 20 bone-colored dice with black pips and a skull on the six. Clean, simple, useful. Not every release has to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes you just need more dice because your current pile has somehow scattered across three army cases, a desk drawer, and the floor of your car.

Warhammer Colour Painting Handle

Warhammer Colour Painting Handle

This one is actually pretty practical. It is a simplified, friction-based painting handle that supports bases from 25mm to 40mm. That makes it a budget-friendly option for painters who need multiple handles on the desk at once and do not want to keep shuffling one premium handle between twenty half-painted infantry models.

Keep in mind that the current paint handle is still being sold, according to the preview.

Final Thoughts from us on the New Horus Heresy Pre-Orders

next week horus heresy custodians

So, this week’s preview feels like GW covering a lot of ground without losing the plot. Horus Heresy players get the shiny new Custodes range, a proper rules book, and a giant tank built for people who think “too much firepower” is a fake concept. Old World fans get a nice hit of nostalgia with the classic Orcs and Goblins coming back, and newer hobbyists get a few starter-friendly extras that make getting into the hobby a little less painful.

Pretty solid spread, really. Gold-clad murder machines, super-heavy armor, grumpy old metal greenskins, and a handful of useful hobby products are a strong way to fill out a pre-order weekend. Now the only real question is whether your wallet is taking the Legio Custodes Battle Group Pre-order hit, the nostalgia hit, or the full combo meal.
