Is the Space Marines Combat Patrol Worth It?
For new Space Marines players, this still looks like a pretty strong buy, especially with about $158.75 in value once you add up the full Combat Patrol, paints, brush, and booklet.
It’s not the most exciting box on the shelf, but it covers the basics well: a playable army, the hobby essentials, and an easier way into Warhammer 40k without forcing you into a larger starter set packed with models you may not even want.
Technically, GW bills this as the Getting Started with Space Marines set, but even their own description says it “Includes 13 push-fit Space Marines miniatures, comprising a full Combat Patrol”.
What Can You Play Out of the Box? (Combat Patrol Rules vs 40k Points)
Combat Patrol is its own little bubble, so points are not the headline. If you’re tossing this box into regular 40k, the contents usually shake out to around 450 points, give or take, depending on the latest points update.
What to Buy Next After the Space Marines Combat Patrol

OOP 2021 & 2023 Combat Patrol Contents and Value Comparison:
2023 OOP Space Marines Combat Patrol
Games Workshop calls this force Strike Force Octavius: a Captain and a Librarian in Terminator armor, five Infernus Marines and five Terminators, all push-fit models first sold in the Leviathan box set.
This Combat Patrol is basically the “Leviathan leftovers” special: a tiny headcount, one half-squad, and some of the weakest value GW has slapped on one of these boxes in ages. So, if you can find it, it technically saves you some money, but not much.
| Models | Unit Name | Value |
| 1 | Terminator Librarian | $40 |
| 1 | Captain in Terminator Armor | $44 |
| 5 | Terminators (ETB Kit) | $65 |
| 5 | Infernus Marines (Half Squad) | $35 |

2021 OOP Combat Patrol
The out-of-print 2021 Combat Patrol is the box people still name-drop mid-argument, mostly because the savings were chunky and it was actually a lineup you’d want to own. Here’s the quick contents and value comparison so you can size it up without the nostalgia blinders.
| Models | Unit Name | Value |
| 10 | Infiltrators | $62.50 |
| 5 | Eliminators | $60 |
| 1 | Impulsor | $84 |
| 1 | Phobos Lieutenant | $35 |
| 2 | Suppressors | $60 |

Final Thoughts From Us on the Space Marines Combat Patrol

At $177, the box adds up to about $335.75 in total retail value, so the savings are doing a lot more work than they did with some older Combat Patrols. If you’re starting Space Marines and want these units, it’s a pretty easy entry point, but longtime players with a pile of Marines already may be better off cherry-picking whatever their army actually needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is combat patrol going to be in 11th edition?

Yes, but not all of them in the app yet. When Combat Patrol went live in the Warhammer 40,000 app on July 23, 2026, Games Workshop said it would support the core Combat Patrol sets first, adding of older boxes: “There is support on the way for these too.” Check the app for this Terminator box before your next game.
