RUMORS: GW Making More Plastic Death Korps of Krieg

octarius dkok death korpsWith the pics of the Death Korps of Krieg plastic sprues revealed, we now have a decent idea of how GW could update more of their line to plastic.

When GW moved some of the DKoK units to Legends, we were getting a little worried about the good old shovel boys. With the new Kill Team box preview, and how the sprues look, our hopes are flying high again for new Krieg models, this time in plastic!

It’s also, in a way, its sorta a plus that they Legends certain units too. That could mean they may be trying to fit the faction into a more normal type of Guard army list inside the upcoming Imperial Guard codex book!

So, let’s take a look at the sprues, see how they could make multiple kits out of that, and then take a look at what we think could be coming next.

This is How GW Can Make More Plastic Death Korps of Krieg

DKoK SprueRight off the bat, you can see they put the majority of the command bits on a different sprue. Meaning with just a little ounce of effort, they could easily remove the separate command/ veterans sprue (pictured left above), while the two sprues on the right could easily use to make a standard troop box set.

DKoK SprueA closer up of the right sprue is almost identical to what they would put in a normal box, but that’s pretty obvious since Games Workshop said they would release these as individual kits (in some configuration) after the Kill Team set launches.

death Korps of Krieg octariusOverall it looks like these veterans can be made into a ton of different poses both “taking aim” and “in action”, Plus from what we can make out, the troop sprue also includes a sniper, melta, and the flamer see above as well. So it could make sense for them to split the sprue up into a few different boxes say a Command/ Veterans box and perhaps a base troop box.

This is, after all, the GW way.

What Else Could We See?

octarius dkokAs we said, we expect at very least a troops box and a command squad offering. But we think there will be more than that. With them already having more than one kneeling model (judging from the sprues), making a heavy weapons team would be quite easy, plus they already have all the base sculpts from the Cadian versions.

Plastic DKoK Heavy Weapon Teams?

Games Workshop designers would just have to combine the heavy weapons designs from the existing Cadian box with the Death Korps to make their own plastic offering of three heavy weapon teams! Note their mortar kit, along with the lascannon team is  “no longer available” from Forge World.

Plastic Mars Pattern Leman Russ?

We also suspect a tank upgrade sprue, where you get a Leman Russ plus a few extras to change the pattern to the Mars Alpha and maybe a few gas masks and accessories.

Oh, look at that, it’s no longer available from Forge World. Wonder what that could perhaps mean…

Units Moving to Legend

Death Korps of Krieg Grenadiers

The list of DKoK they moved to Legends (pictured top) actually makes sense if you think about them trying to standardize them to Guard. They took out the Grenadiers, which makes sense because they don’t need another troop choice with different weapons.

The Commissar on a horse just doesn’t really make sense if you take into account a normal Guard Army. Then, moving some of the big tanks really sucks, but it does push the Krieg more into a normal Guard-style army configuration for rules and retail sales too.

So, will we see a bunch of new plastic kits based on the Forge World offerings or just this one kit from the new Kill Team?  We hope it’s the former and not the ladder!

Either way, any new plastic Imperial Guard (or even Xenos in general) would be welcome to see in 2021.

What units do you think GW will release for Death Korps of Krieg in plastic?
