Nazdreg is Back for 40k With New Rules AND a Total War Debut

Nazdreg Model and Rules Orks Warhammer 40k

Nazdreg is back in Warhammer 40k with a new mega-armor model, fresh Codex Orks rules, and a debut in the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

It’s a twofer: Nazdreg is getting a new 40k model and showing up in the new Total War: Warhammer 40k at the same time. That’s a great release for Orks players, especially since the flashiest Bad Moon in the galaxy hasn’t had a model since the last century.

GW isn’t dropping Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub alone, as he’s arriving alongside Codex: Orks while also taking a major role in a new video game.

This release ties directly into 11th Edition’s first codex and keeps the momentum going after the Armageddon box. GW revealed both the model and game appearance in one Warhammer Community article.

Let’s look at the new model, the rules GW previewed, and what Nazdreg’s Total War appearance could mean for anyone planning to play Orks going forward.

This Nazdreg Resculpt Nails the Nostalgia Without Faking It

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • New model: the 2nd Edition classic gets a full mega-armor rework while keeping the original details.
  • Kustom Blasta X: fires all three profiles at once, hits on a 4+, and can still shoot in melee.
  • Total War debut: Nazdreg is a key character in the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

New Nazdreg Warhammer 40k model front viewBad Moons players have been waiting decades for this one because Nazdreg hasn’t had a model released this century. GW went back to the classic 2nd Edition sculpt and rebuilt it in modern plastic.

The new version keeps the details longtime Ork players will recognize right away, including the kneepads, gutplate, and banner. It looks like Nazdreg without being stuck in the 1990s, which is exactly what this model needed.

The banner still rocks the Bad Moon, along with plenty of glyphs showing off Nazdreg’s conquests and kunnin’. Those details should stand out once he’s on the table with the rest of the new Ork models, giving the Bad Moons Ork army playstyle a proper new centerpiece.

Nazdreg’s Rules Are a Shooting AND Combat Problem

Nazdreg’s previewed datasheet looks loaded. Best of all, he’s obviously strong in both shooting and combat, then adds several support abilities on top of that.

That gives him a lot more to do than the usual one-job Warboss you’d build an Orks list around.

The Kustom Blasta X mounted on his right arm has three shooting profiles. Most combi-weapons make you pick one, but not Nazdreg’s; it fires all three at once. He also hits on a 4+, which is unusually accurate for an Ork. On top of that, he can fire the weapon while in combat, removing one of the obvious ways an opponent might try to shut him down.

Then there’s Moonchewa. The claw attacks with Cleave and Damage 3, giving Nazdreg enough hitting power to tear through elite infantry like Chaos Chosen and Custodes.

His support abilities also change how you can solve problems with an Ork list.

  • Deep Strike: his unit can arrive from reserves.
  • Battleshock: nearby units automatically pass, keeping a bad morale roll from wrecking your plan.
  • Reactive move: he can reposition outside his own turn.
  • Ignores cover: enemy units don’t get protection from cover against his shooting.
  • Riled up: he can make a unit count as though the Waaagh! was called that turn.

So, overall Nazdreg can shoot, fight, and support nearby units. That’s a packed datasheet before even looking at the points.

Nazdreg Stomping Into Total War Is the Bigger Deal (Maybe)

Nazdreg total war

Nazdreg isn’t only returning to the tabletop. GW confirmed he’ll be one of the key characters players fight with and against in Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

He’s tied into the game’s early story around the battles for Armageddon, the same setting pushed by the Armageddon box.

Previewing Nazdreg in the game before the new game or model drop shows how GW is handling the 40k IP right now. The miniature and video game are being released as parts of the same story instead of separate projects that barely connect.

That approach also lines up with the broader 2026 release roadmap and Games Workshop’s licensing ambitions.

Final Thoughts on the New Nazdreg Model and Rules

Nazdreg the Bad Moons Warboss new model for Warhammer 40k and Total War

The new Nazdreg miniature releases alongside Codex: Orks in a few weeks, but maybe the bigger question is what his rules say about the rest of the codex.

If GW is giving other Ork characters this much utility, the army could have a lot more options than simply charging forward and hoping the dice cooperate.

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is available to wishlist on Steam now. Nazdreg’s role in the early story probably won’t be the last time Ork players see him there either.

Regardless, Bad Moons players are finally getting their Warboss back both on the tabletop and digitally as well.
