Miniature of the Month Rumors: GW’s Replacement Just Leaked

miniature of the month rumors warhammer stores

The Miniature of the Month rumors just got a bit more specific, and the leaked October format looks nothing like the free mini we’ve had for years.

None of these Miniature of the Month rumors are official yet. GW hasn’t said a word about what replaces the promo after September, but socials are repeating the same basic story about a new free mini that’s been bouncing around Reddit, with people claiming they heard it from store staff as well.

That still makes it a rumor, but at least the details are starting to line up instead of every post inventing a different version of what October may look like.

Eight Minis, Four for 40k and Four for Age of Sigmar

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • Eight models, not twelve: the reel claims eight minis replace the monthly rotation entirely.
  • Four and four: four for 40k, four for Age of Sigmar, with each one supposedly coming from a different faction.
  • Available all year: all eight would be available from launch and stick around, although nobody has nailed down the redemption limit yet.

The latest social media rumors say there will be eight minis total, split four for Age of Sigmar and four for 40k, which, for once, is also what people on Reddit say they’ve been hearing too.

If it’s right, you aren’t spending months waiting for the promo to roll back around to the game you actually play. You’d have four Warhammer 40k factions and four Age of Sigmar factions sitting there at the same time, with each mini supposedly coming from a different army.

There are faction lists floating around already too, but we’re not putting much weight on those until somebody actually has the sprues in front of them.

Nothing Rotates, Which Means the Name Sorta Doesn’t Work Anymore

According to the reel, those same eight minis stay available year-round. Reddit agrees, with one poster saying no other batch is cycling in later.

So, it looks like so much for the monthly part.

GW already axed the “free” part of the promo outright, and September’s mini is the last one under the old setup. Which means if eight models land in October and sit there for the rest of the year, “Miniature of the Month” isn’t really describing anything anymore.

You Still Can’t Walk In on Day One and Grab All Eight

The rumor also says you can’t walk in on day one and ask for all eight. So there’s a limit somewhere in this; we just don’t know what it is yet.

One Reddit guess is one mini per month, but until Games Workshop actually writes the rule down, it could just as easily be one per visit, tied to building the mini in store, or handled differently depending on where you are.

Plus, Games Workshop has already said it would definitely not be “free” anymore, and they have even changed how this promo works before, so the redemption rules are going to be the key to continuing to get people in the door in the first place.

This sounds like it’s aimed at people trying a new army or practicing a painting technique. Somebody who already owns four armies probably knows what they’re buying next. The person standing there with one free model and looking at the rest of that faction is a different story.

Either way, free gifts and store-anniversary models already get people through the door, along with the regular preview cycle. This rumored version, however, would give stores something similar to work with all year instead of swapping the model every month.

Final Thoughts on the Miniature of the Month Rumors

GW still hasn’t shown us the replacement, so October will answer most of this without much detective work. The big unknown is the redemption rule, because eight minis sitting in a store doesn’t tell you much until you know how often you’re actually allowed to claim one.

We’re also watching whether all eight appear at once and whether the coin program keeps running alongside them. If October rolls around and stores have those eight minis sitting there, we’ll know pretty fast how much of this rumor was real. Then we’re just left wondering what GW plans to call a monthly miniature that doesn’t change every month anymore…
