New 40k Aeldari Rumors Hint at a Huge Retro Revival

aeldari rumors swooping hawk codex art

Karandras is rumored to return alongside Vect, and with Drazhar already in the mix, GW could be lining up a Scorpion King rivalry.

The Aeldari range has only a handful of old kits left to update, like Dire Avengers, the Falcon (and its “variants”), while the Drukhari still need a proper centerpiece. Plus, we were already guessing Karandras off a Rumor Engine last month (even though it wasn’t him, sadly).

None of that confirms a release, of course, but there’s enough here to talk about without pretending we’ve seen the new kits themselves…

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • What’s happening: The rumor version goes like this: Karandras returns, Dire Avengers finally get refreshed, the Falcon chassis gets redone and drags the Fire Prism and Wave Serpent with it, and Vect comes screaming back into the Drukhari range.
  • What we have seen so far: Nothing official. Just a pile of Eldar kits GW still needs to update and an edition that keeps reaching back for classic characters.
  • What’s next: If GW wants something big to anchor a new Dark Eldar book, Vect is sitting right there, and his return would pull Karandras along with him.

Karandras is Stuck in Legends While His Scorpions Thrive

Karandras

GW Model From the 1990s

GW has refreshed almost the entire Aspect Warrior range, but Karandras is still waiting in the shadows with a model from the 1990s. He’s also been “bansiehd” to Legends, while the Striking Scorpions themselves remain very much part of the game. But you can build a squad of new plastic Striking Scorpions, put them on the table, and still use his Legends rules if you really want their Phoenix Lord alongside them.

But why update the squad and leave its Phoenix Lord behind?

As we’ve seen with Commissar Yarrick, Legends status doesn’t mean a character can never return, so this isn’t the end of Karandras by any means. Plus, it does leave the range looking unfinished, though. With so much of the Aspect Warrior refresh already done, it’s hardly a stretch to wonder whether GW simply hasn’t reached his replacement kit yet.

Dire Avengers and the Falcon Hull Look To Be Next in Line

Dire AvengersDire Avengers are another obvious omission. They’re still in their old armor while much of the range around them has moved on, and they’re an easy pick if GW plans another Aeldari update.

That’s the big reason they made our list of old 40k models GW still needs to resculpt. Of course, being overdue and being next are two different things, especially when GW hasn’t announced a replacement, or even hinted at one.

Wave SerpentThen you’ve got the Falcon chassis too, right? GW has been replacing old vehicle kits across several armies, and the Falcon family is for sure showing its age. Updating that shared hull could also mean new kits for the Fire Prism, Night Spinner, and Wave Serpent, making this a much stronger possibility than a single replacement tank.

So, for anyone with an Eldar collection, that’s potentially a lot of new plastic to consider at once. And if GW finally replaces that old hull, it could sort out several aging kits in one go.

Vect is the Centerpiece the Drukhari Have Been Missing

vectGW keeps bringing back classic characters, units, and concepts this edition, so an Eldar release built around some familiar names would fit what we’ve been seeing. And fewer names have spent longer in the rumor pile than Vect.

Asdrubael Vect has been rumored to return for years, sure. So, if you’ve been waiting through all of that hype, you’ll probably want more than just another suggestion that this time it’s “happening.” Still, the Drukhari need a major centerpiece, and we’ve been asking for Drukhari kit updates for years.

Vect would give GW the biggest nostalgia release to put alongside a new Dark Eldar book.

But it’s the possible connection to Karandras that makes this worth discussing beyond another round of Vect rumors. Drazhar’s already in the range, so bringing Karandras back would give GW both sides of that Striking Scorpion rivalry to work with.

Add Vect, and you’ve got a reason to take the story into the Dark City, with ancient grudges and an Aeldari-versus-Drukhari conflict attached. Scorpion King vs. Scorpion King is an obvious angle for GW to use.

Whether that sounds obvious because it’s planned, or because we’d just like to see it happen, is still the big question.

Final Thoughts on the New Karandras & Aeldari Rumors

Whatever happens with these two big shots, we’ll be watching the Drukhari slot in GW’s release roadmap and any Rumor Engine teaser that gives us a reason to revisit Karandras or Vect again.

Really, after years of Vect rumors, we’d like to see GW put an actual model in front of us, and 11th edition seems like the right time based on all the other retro releases so far.
