GW’s 2019 Previews & New Releases Rumor Roadmap

question chaos marine hor wal

Want to know what is coming in 2019 for Warhammer? GW just teased what’s next, but how does it stack up with the latest previews and rumors? Let’s break it down!

Games Workshop has been steadily dropping new releases throughout 2018 and it looks like they won’t be slowing down in 2019. We’ve already got so much to look forward to for the year. Before we jump into what we know is coming, based on GW’s latest preview, let’s go over the releases that GW shifted to the side for now or didn’t recently mention.

With datasheets for using your Forge World Adeptus Custodes, an expanded list of units for the Grey Knights, and rules for using your Sisters of Silence as a standalone army, this book is going to be a treat for Imperium players.

Prior to 2017, there was always a 40k Imperial Armor released late summer (technically they followed this pattern in 2017 with the Index: Imperial Armor) and a new Horus Heresy supplement around the holidays, which still happened of sorts with the new red book update. There were however no such updates in 2018 as they seemed busy setting up new warehouses in other countries and subsequently raised their prices 20% or more overnight.

We know a lot is in store for 2019 and we are suspecting GW hasn’t mentioned everything they’ll be releasing. Be on the lookout for more and more previews to come as we see more from them on their New Year’s Open, and Horus Heresy Weekend event.

Horus Heresy Book 8: Malevolence

Speaking of the Horus Heresy Weekender event, be on the lookout for the new Malevolence book. It could very well be showing up then!

Forge World’s Facebook had this to say when they reached 100,000 likes:

We’ve reached 100,000 Facebook fans! That’s a veritable Legion of Forge World fanatics. To reward your loyalty, here’s some brand new artwork from an upcoming release (can you guess which one?)

Almost 900 people tuned in to WarhammerTV to watch what’s coming up from Forge World a while ago.  Book VIII, Malevolence, will be primarily about Blood Angels & White Scars. In addition, there will be a focus on Alpha Legion and Space Wolves.

Rules for Khan, Sanguinius, Omegon and other characters.

New units/models on the way:

Also civil war within the alpha legion and signups prime and Chandax among other things. Heaps of background story about BA and WS and the others also daemons are very themed as stand alone but can still be use to represent the 4 power or minor powers kind of build your own demon list.

Host of sacrifice is a Blood angels destroyer unit.

New revised rules for general destroyer units are coming.

We are steadily approaching the Heresy Weekender event and we can already see that the Sons of Sanguinius are on the cover of their tickets.

coming in 2019

GW just previewed their top 5’s of what is coming in 2019 recently so we’re breaking down the latest previews and rumors that are out there now:

The Genestealer Cults have been waiting for their moment to strike – and in 2019, the second wave of these insidious infiltrators will be landing, alongside a new codex.

Genestealer Cult models and new codex are rumored to be Jan/Feb. There were a ton more reveals from the Vigilus Open on new GSC models that are coming as well as New cult bikers.

If you’ve been playing Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress and you’re already hungry for more, you won’t have to wait long – 2019 will see new models for this game of dark quests, and new expansions to boot. If you thought a Man of Iron was cool, you haven’t seen anything yet…

GW had said there would be more expansions for BSF coming in 2019 when it released back in November. What models or factions for that matter may be on the way are still a mystery.

Kill Team – the game of Skirmish Warfare in the 41st Millennium – will continue to grow in 2019, with further expansions that’ll offer you new ways to play and let you use even more of your favourite units and factions in the game.

kroot

It looks like we might have already gotten a taste of what’s on the way for Kill Team in 2019 with the Kroot Kill Team rules previewed in January’s White Dwarf issue.

With Vigilus Defiant now on shelves and in the hands of gamers across the world, the stage is set for the epic second chapter of this massive conflict. With the Black Legion set to arrive on this beleaguered sentinel world, the 41st Millennium could be in for even more major developments…

Haarken Worldclaimer

There are rumors of Chaos models getting updated and with Haarken’s 80-day countdown to take Vigilus, could Chaos models be hiding just around the corner?

Finally, 2019 is the year it happens. Plastic Sisters of Battle are coming at last – and whether you’re a new player or you’ve been waiting decades for this to happen, it’s going to blow you away…

Sisters of Battle Cover Img

Sisters of Battle Codex is definitely on the way. We just got their Beta codex in Chapter Approved 2018. With that came a whole truckload of Stratagems and rules as well.

We’re still on the lookout for those Plastic Sisters models.

Destruction is coming to the Mortal Realms – in the form of the Gloomspite Gitz and the Bad Moon they worship. This annihilatory alliance of grots, troggoths, gargants and giant spiders will be hitting shelves early in 2019, featuring a massive range of new models and some madcap army mechanics…

Games Workshop has been pulling out all the stops on these guys here lately with videos and talk of what’s to come. Check out the latest in-depth peek at what’s ahead for the Gloomspire Gitz. It’s looking like these guys are getting two separate waves of releases. The first being the Grotz and the second, the Troggoths.

The ultimate competitive miniatures game is set for some major expansions next year, with more warbands and cards to get your teeth into – including Mollog’s Mob and the Godsworn Hunt

troggoth wal

New Warhammer Underworlds Warbands are going to be the Mollogs Mob and the Godsworn Hunt. We still don’t know if those are the only two Warbands left scheduled for the year. However, that’s what’s been previewed as “coming soon”.

While Slaanesh may still be mysteriously absent from the Mortal Realms, his servants have been very busy indeed – we daresay that Wrath and Rapture heralds even more new models for the Hosts…

Slaanesh is stirring in AoS as well. GW hasn’t specifically mentioned that Slaanesh himself would make an appearance in AoS, however, his Daemons are definitely doing his bidding. Wrath & Rapture may only be the start of what’s coming.

Check out what is on page 166 of the Age of Sigmar Rulebook:

slaanesh rumors

“Silk-Clad courtesans… each wearing hideous masks and mock claws

Sounds like Slaanesh may have some allies in the Mortal Realms, that are far from Daemonic… as of yet. Plus spoilers in the passage may seem to indicate even more new miniatures may be on the way as well.

Endless spells have become a much-loved part of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, with every army having the option to take their choice of summoned sorceries. In 2019, we’ll be seeing even more, including powerful and strange new options available to any faction…

endless spells

Endless Spells are coming to AoS and they’ll be usable by any faction. If the art is showing what the spells will look like, we have a flaming skull and some kind of rift portal, on the way. The latest Endless Spell models we’ve seen are for the Gloomspite Gitz. Showcasing a smaller Bad Moon, a walking Cauldron and more.

In 2019, we’ll get to delve more deeply into the spiralling consequences of the Necroquake, with further dispatches from the Soul Wars…

stormcast necroquake

Soul Wars advancements are going to be made. With that, we can suspect more Stormcast Eternals and Nighthaunt models. Check out the latest artwork with the mention of the Necroquake. The Skeleton on the bottom right looks oddly similar to the Warband leader for the Sepulchral Guard in Shadespire.

What’s Ahead for the Rest of 2019?

A lot has been covered…but not all of it. There are still some rumors floating around the web as well as some previews from a while back that GW seems to be sitting on. Check out the other releases we may need to keep our eyes peeled for.

reaver chainfist

  • New Reaver With Chainfist for Titancius and Upgrade Sprues available Separately Supposedly Coming in JAN. We’ve already seen previews for the model so we know that it’s on the way at some point.
  • New Adeptus Titanicus Rules Supplement (Titandeath) and remaining Cerastus-variant kits (Acheron & Castigator) Rumored Previews at the Horus Heresy Weekender in FEB

repulsor

  • RUMORS new Primaris models:  Initially spotted as a rumor, but most hobbyists seem to be expecting new models based of Rumor Engine previews.
  • RUMORS Ynnari Codex Still a rumor. However, this faction has been incredibly powerful throughout 8th edition.
  • Rumored New Space Marine codex 2.0 (compilation book with new material) makes sense seeing how now we have new content that is not in the first codex.

With our first steps into 2019, we can already tell it’ll be jam-packed with exciting releases. Keep in mind there could always be some unmentioned ones that GW will surprise us with!

What do you think about this year’s schedule both confirmed and rumored? Which release are you the most excited for? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
