Horus Heresy Christmas Boxes Offer 2 Different Army Builds

Horus Heresy Christmas boxes Battle Groups

Horus Heresy Christmas boxes bring Hammer and Anvil forces to the tabletop; here are the prices, savings, and release dates for each Battle Group.

GW already showed off the Warhammer Christmas boxes for 40k and a bigger-than-usual batch of AoS Christmas boxes. Now Horus Heresy is getting in on the action with GW’s reveal on Warhammer Community.

So, these two boxes couldn’t play much more differently, and that’s kind of the fun part. One box wants to get across the table before your opponent knows what happened. The other is perfectly happy marching up the middle and making them deal with it too.

Either way, if you’ve been thinking about starting a Legion, you have two pretty decent ways to jump into the game now. Don’t forget, these usually sell out fast each holiday, so it’s worth planning your purchase now at your favorite Warhammer retailer, too.

ARTICLE SUMMARY:
  • Vanguard Assault Battle Group goes fast with Mark VI troops, a Rhino, and a Predator: 20 Mark VI Tactical, 10 Mark VI Assault, a Praetor with a power sword, a Contemptor, plus a Deimos-pattern Rhino and Predator.
  • Heavy Assault Battle Group stacks Mark III, Breachers, and Cataphractii behind a Land Raider: 20 Mark III Tactical, 10 Breachers, a five-man Command Squad, six Cataphractii with volkite chargers and power mauls, and a Land Raider Explorator/Carrier.
  • GW pitches both boxes as cheaper than the kits: pre-orders hit November 14th, 2026 for $255 a box.

Horus Heresy Christmas Boxes, Battle Groups: Release Date & Pricing

  • Release Date: November 27th, 2026 with pre-orders starting on November 14th, 2026. (verified in GW’s Nov 2nd, 2026 Email to Retailers)
  • Horus Heresy Christmas Boxes & Battle Groups Retail Price (MSRP/RRP): $255 (USD). Regional pricing is listed below.

Vanguard Assault Battle Group Wants to Be Everywhere at Once

Mark VI Legionaries, a Praetor, a Contemptor Dreadnought, a Rhino and a Predator from the Vanguard Assault Battle Group box

The Vanguard box looks like it’s made for someone who gets bored sitting on their home objective. You’ve got a Praetor with a power sword leading 20 Mark VI Tactical Marines, and GW even suggests loading half of them into the Rhino to go grab objectives while the Predator stays back and lays down some fire.

Not a bad way to get a mobile Legion going right out of the box, and you’ve still got some decent close-combat punch here. Those 10 Mark VI Assault Marines actually want to get stuck in, while the Contemptor Dreadnought is one of those kits most Legion players end up picking up at some point anyway. Getting both in the same box is a nice bonus.

At the $255 price, the Vanguard Assault Battle Group saves about $159.75 (39%) compared with $414.75 in separate kits.

Legiones Astartes Christmas Box Vanguard Assault Battle Group Values & Pricing: $255 (USA), $310 (Canada), £160 (UK), €206 (EU), ¥36,300 (Japan), ₩340,000 (Korea), $435 (Australia), $515 (New Zealand)

Models Unit Name Value
20 MKVI Tactical Squad $94.00
10 Legion MKVI Assault Squad $76.00
1 Legion Praetor with Power Sword $37.25
1 Contemptor Dreadnought $67.50
1 Deimos Pattern Rhino $58.00
1 Deimos Pattern Predator Battle Tank $82.00

Overall, it’s good to see the Mark VI Marines getting their own big box, too. Remember, the original Legiones Astartes Battle Group focused on Mark III, and the Maximus Battle Group was all about Mark IV. So yeah, it’s about time the beakies got a shot, and if you like getting into position early instead of slowly grinding your way forward, we’d definitely give this one a look.

Heavy Assault Battle Group Walks Through the Front Door and Stays

Mark III Legionaries, Breachers, Cataphractii Terminators and a Land Raider from the Heavy Assault Battle Group box

Now, if running all over the table isn’t your thing, the Heavy Assault box goes in pretty much the opposite direction. GW calls this one the immovable object, and with 20 Mark III Legionaries and 10 Breachers, you can see why.

At the $255 price, the Heavy Assault Battle Group saves about $131 (34%) compared with $386 in separate kits.

Legiones Astartes Christmas Box Heavy Assault Battle Group Values & Pricing: $255 (USA), $310 (Canada), £160 (UK), €206 (EU), ¥36,300 (Japan), ₩340,000 (Korea), $435 (Australia), $515 (New Zealand)

Models Unit Name Value
20 MKIII Tactical Squad $83.00
10 MKIII Breacher Squad $76.00
5 MKIII Legion Command Squad $55.00
6 Cataphractii Terminators with Volkite Chargers and Power Mauls $72.00
1 Land Raider Explorator/Carrier $100.00
Heavy Assault Battle Group Battleforce Box
  Total MSRP: $386.00
  Savings Versus $255 Box Price: $131 (34%)

Then you’ve got the really chunky stuff. Six Cataphractii Terminators armed with volkite chargers and power mauls get a Land Raider to ride around in, and you can build it as either the Explorator or the Carrier, which is clutch in a lot of army lists too.

GW also says the five-man Command Squad has loads of ranged and melee options, so you’ll probably have a pretty healthy pile of leftover bits when you’re done building them.

Of course, if you already bought last year’s Siege Assault Battle Group, you might be looking at those Cataphractii and Breachers thinking you’ve got plenty already, which is fair enough. But swapping the Leviathan for a Land Raider and adding a full Tactical Squad makes this feel more like a complete army you can build around, rather than something focused mostly on siege warfare.

Final Thoughts on the Horus Heresy Battle Group Boxes

Both new Legiones Astartes Battle Group boxes for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy

The big question has been pricing and dates, but we have those now, too. Last year’s Siege Assault box was $215, but with all the recent price increases, it makes sense these are going for the $255 summer Battleforce price. Still, even at that price, you’re still saving a decent amount compared to the individual prices.

Either way, there’s plenty here for someone who’s been thinking about jumping into 30k. Both boxes look like solid starting points, depending on how you want your Legion to play. And we’d be surprised if a bunch of hobbyists hadn’t picked their box, and probably their Legion, before Warhammer Black Friday rolls around.

Cant wait for these to sit on a shelf collecting dust at my FLGS, due to GW destroying this entire game system.
