New models, bold opinions, and a few letdowns, here’s our take on the Age of Sigmar’s new Deathbringer and Blades of Khorne releases for Age of Sigmar.

There’s blood in the air and brass on the battlefield—Khorne’s getting a new face, and it’s not one you’ll forget anytime soon. The latest new release for Warhammer Age of Sigmar brings us the Deathbringer model, a skull-hungry warrior cut from raw aggression and iron ambition.

Here’s what’s worth knowing—and why this might be your next favorite addition to a Blades of Khorne army. Or perhaps a new Master of Executions for 40k Chaos Space Marines!

Not Quite a Lord, All About the Gore

Khorne DeathbringerHe’s not a lord yet—but he’s coming for the title with axe in hand. The new Khorne Deathbringer isn’t just another warrior in brass; he’s a rising star among blood-soaked killers. Armed with the Kingslayer axe, he’s got one job: relieve rulers of their heads. Monarchs, generals, petty tyrants—no crown is safe.

What sets him apart? You’ve got kit options. Go with a ragged cape for that battle-worn edge, or stack him with a trophy rack to show off a solid day’s work of headhunting. Even the shield doubles as a weapon—because in Khorne’s army, defense is for the weak.

Familiar Face, Slightly New Hat

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room—or rather, the brass-clad berserker trying very hard not to be every other Khorne character kit you already own. Sure, he’s got a cape option, and the shield could double as a weapon. Neat. But is that enough?

To put it bluntly, this new Deathbringer feels like it was built using the same mood board as every other blood-drenched Khorne unit. The silhouette? Same. The vibe? Unchanged. The excitement level? Somewhere between “neat” and “already have three like him.”

TL;DR: It’s another aggressive centerpiece mini that looks great but doesn’t exactly scream “must-have” if you’re knee-deep in red armor already.

Rules Incoming in Battletome: Blades of Khorne

Blades of Khorne BattletomeIf you’re wondering when you can actually use this guy in game, you’ll find his full rules in the upcoming Battletome: Blades of Khorne. Expect updated Battle Traits, Armies of Renown, and a few surprises that’ll give your mortal followers new tricks—and plenty of red paint.

Blades of Khorne SpearheadAlso incoming from the looks of it: a new Spearhead force, the Fangs of the Blood God. It’s fast, mean, and includes two packs of Flesh Hounds, led by Karanak, the three-headed top dog himself. Supporting them are the Claws of Karanak—mortals so rabid with devotion they’ve halfway turned into daemons.

Final Thoughts

This release is one part hype, one part hold-up. The new Deathbringer looks great, sure, but isn’t rewriting the book on Khorne aesthetics. And the Spearhead—well, it’s not the top unit options around, and we think that’s a missed opportunity.

Unless the Battletome delivers some major rules shakeups, this wave feels more like a refresh than a revolution.

Okay, ranting aside, there is hobby value here. Khorne kits have always been conversion gold across game systems, and the Deathbringer gives you options for capes, racks, and angry poses galore. If your backlog needs more rage and brass highlights, this guy’s a fun canvas.

Even if the model feels familiar, it can still turn heads on the tabletop—especially with some heavy weathering, blood-for-the-blood-god splatter, or custom basing.
