Ogor Hunters get a once-per-battle deployment-phase redeploy that puts them within 3″ of terrain and more than 9″ from enemies; that’s going to annoy people fast.
GW just revealed more new Ogor Mawtribes models, and it’s the second part of the Big Summer Preview Ogor wave to land in three days.
Best of all, the Age of Sigmar Ogor Mawtribes haven’t had a unit that lets the army pick its fights with this much control before. The old Icebrow Hunter was a sneaky lone hero, and the Bloodpelt Hunter brought buffs, but neither gave the army a real ranged threat in a regular unit slot. Hunters with Frost Sabers change that in AoS 4th Edition, arriving as the first proper ranged ambush hammer for the faction.
Even the rules blurb lands nicely, describing their redeployment as “advancing under the cover of lingering icy mists.” But you know, on the table, that cover is probably whatever terrain piece your opponent forgot to screen.
- Hunters with Sabrefangs: A new Ogor Mawtribes kit with three crossbow-armed Hunters and two Sabrefangs, revealed right after the Big Summer Preview Ogor wave.
- Through the Frosts: A Once Per Battle (Army) Deployment Phase ability that picks up the whole unit and sets it down wholly within 3″ of any terrain feature and more than 9″ from enemy units.
- What it costs you: This unit can’t use MOVE abilities in turn one, so you trade a free pre-battle reposition for giving up the turn-one charge.
How Through The Frosts Actually Plays For TheOgor Mawtribes Table
This isn’t just a Scout move with frosty wording slapped on it. The redeploy happens in the Deployment Phase before the first battle round. You pick the whole unit up from the line you committed to and put it somewhere better.
Best of all, the wholly within 3″ of any terrain feature and more than 9″ from every enemy unit restriction leaves a lot of room on a GT-legal table. And you’re not outflanking, either; you’re choosing the engagement before the dice even start. So, if you get the first turn, this basically guarantees they hit exactly what you want them to.
The no-move clause is the fair part of the rule. The Hunters can’t use MOVE abilities in the first turn of the first battle round, so the unit trades a turn-one charge for a turn-zero teleport. Which is a fair price for a shooting unit, because they’re not an alpha-strike brick. They’re snipers, screen clearers, or a backfield objective problem for when the second turn starts and movement opens up again for them.

- Pre-game reads get easier for you and worse for your opponent. Mawtribes used to deploy with the plan sitting in plain sight. One ambush unit per army changes that.
- Terrain matters more. Any ruin, building, or line-of-sight blocker near your opponent’s deployment can become a landing pad. Events with heavier terrain footprints just got a lot friendlier for Hunters.
- Sabrefangs aren’t just extra wounds. They’re a second threat landing beside the Hunters. Two sabertooth tigers in the backfield create problems for smaller units, not just more bodies to chew through.
What’s in the New Hunter Box?
The box has three Hunters and two Sabrefangs, and it looks like it is tied into the same release wave that brought seven new Ogor Mawtribes kits on Friday.
Final Thoughts on the Ogor Hunters Reveal
Seven new Ogor kits showed up on Friday, then Hunters with Frost Sabres followed on Monday, and GW has already teased more details on the rest of the new Mawtribes units as the release gets closer. That sure sounds like the drip feed still has a few slabs of meat left on the hook, especially with the new battletome rolling into the same wave.
For Mawtribes players, though, the homework starts now. Check your terrain layouts to figure out where this new Hunters unit can redeploy into. Once pre-orders open, everyone else has to stare at your deployment zone, knowing one of the units might be sharpening its claws in their backfield by turn two.
