Age of Sigmar Gets New Dawnbringers Book Series & 2023 Roadmap

Faced with this primal whirlwind, the Dawnbringer Crusades sally out to reconquer lands lost to Chaos, and stake their claim in Sigmar’s name. In Hammerhal, a Dawnbringer Crusade of staggering vision prepares to leave the two great gates of the Twin-Tailed City, kicking off a new campaign series for Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Dawnbringers.

Dawnbringers Book I: Harbingers kicks off the series, which will offer support for all four Grand Alliances. It introduces the colossal Twin-Tailed Crusade, a multi-pronged expedition that’s preparing to depart across Aqshy and Ghyran at once. This campaign series will follow both crusades – and their respective fates – alongside new background information and rules for your Warhammer Age of Sigmar games.

Harbingers takes its name from the four heralds of provenance who rise to prominence in the early days of the Twin-Tailed Crusade, each leading a warband of devoted followers.

With a huge narrative expansion, this looks and sounds like it will essentially be the AoS take on the recent 40k book set Arks of Omen, which seemed to be an overall success.

New Cities of Sigmar Minaitures

The Freeguild Cavaliers lead the charge against the enemies of Order. Decked out in ostentatious gear befitting their many victories and riding horses clad in detailed barding, they are a further glimpse at the wider aesthetic that defines the Cities of Sigmar. These are incredibly characterful and detailed miniatures – each a glimpse into the peoples and cultures under Sigmar’s banner.

GW Reveals 6 Dynamic New Age of Sigmar Models Coming In 2023

grimhold exile

A Grimhold Exile is a rare sight even among the bloody-minded and death-defiant Fyreslayers – the sole survivor of a fallen magmahold, carrying with them the traditions and vengeful spirit of their lost home.

Nothing quite beats an angry dwarf, and this new character has plenty of reason to be upset!

Seraphon Skink Starseers are Masters of the Arcane!

Skink Starseers

While the sagacious Slann Starmasters spend their lives unpacking and executing the complex cosmic plans of the Old Ones, quotidian matters of Seraphon society fall to skink scholars and priests, who are in turn led by shrewd Skink Starseers. Don’t let the small size of these reptilian rectors fool you – Skink Starseers are second only to the Slann in their mastery of the arcane powers.

The model is actually really cool, as it’s nice to see a Skink get a palanquin of its own! Obviously, it’s not quite as ornate as the Slann’s, but who would expect it to be?

AoS Seraphon Saurus Astrolith Bearers

Saurus Astrolith Bearers

The Saurus Astrolith Bearer is a warrior marked by destiny, tasked with hoisting a powerful serpentine standard. More than merely an inspiring icon, this arcane device is inscribed with geometric symbols and powered by the orb of purest celestite that floats at its centre.

The standard is pretty awesome looking and will really make a striking feature on the battlefield! Plus, the rules for it are pretty awesome.

AoS Seraphon Spawn of Chotec

Seraphon Spawn of Chotec

Found in the most volcanic regions of the Mortal Realms – and hence all over Aqshy, where they’re often hunted by Fyreslayers – the Spawn of Chotec are fire-spitting salamanders which the Seraphon revere as the offspring of the sun god himself. The Sun Acolytes who handle these sour-tempered salamanders are marked for their duty from birth. When the stars flare and the spawning pools boil, the skinks who emerge are blessed with incredible resistance to heat, as well as frills that resemble Chotec’s own sunburst.

The models are all pretty cool, and with so many new options for Seraphon, you should be able to sink your hobby teeth into this!

New AoS Roadmap For The Rest of 2023

AoS Book Roadmap 2023

Harbingers is the first book of a series. We’ve checked with the auguries, who have provided a roadmap of what the future holds for the Age of Sigmar.

With the massive build-up of Cities of Sigmar, it will finally release in Autumn! The Dawnbringers series looks to also wrap up by the end of this year with a book on each Grand Alliance. Plus, the Cities of Sigmar are finally getting their initial release as well.

AoS Cities of Sigmar Dawnbringer Previews!

Unfortunately, they do say in the article that this is still a long way off. Even going as far as to say we will not see them this year. But let’s hope they don’t push too far into 2023.

Warhammer Underworlds: Wyrdhollow Headsmen’s Curse

wyrdhollow headsmens curse

No matter where the blade travels, it is always accompanied by four spirits, their identities subsumed into nameless roles – one who bears the chopping block, one who sharpens the blade’s edge, one who sentences the condemned, and one lucky ghost who gets to wield that big old sword.

With a cool thematic about them, this seems to be an interesting new addition to Underworlds!

Imperial Guard Black Library Miniature Minka Lesk

Black Library Miniature Minka Lesk

A former Cadian Whiteshield* – full name Arminka Lesk – our plucky heroine was assigned to her regiment at a young age. When the 13th Black Crusade arrived, ‘Minka’ was ordered to defend her hometown of Myrak from a Chaos assault that swiftly became a heretical deluge.

They did a decent job on the model, as it really looks like the artwork for the books, which is always nice for a Black Library mini!

Snikrot (Individual Release)

Snikrot Model Warhammer 40K

Snikrot, often known as Da Green Ghost, is a sly spectre who specialises in slitting throats and taking scalps with his massive combat knives, known as Mork’s Teeth.

This new model of Snikrot definitely has a more aggressive pose than the old model, more in line with what you’d expect from an Ork!  Keen-eyed hobbyists have probably noticed that rumor engine bit on his base as well.

Commander Farsight (Individual Release)

XV-86 Supernova battlesuit commnader farsight oshovahXV-86 Supernova battlesuit commnader farsight oshovah 1

Don’t let the imperium hear the word “AI”; they probably would not approve one bit.  From the looks of the model, it is much bigger than a standard Crisis suit and appears from the scale to be on a 60mm base instead of a 50mm.

These upgrades come just in time for his greatest challenge yet in Arks of Omen: Farsight. The infamous Bad Moons warlord Nazdreg, master of tellyporta taktiks, has taken up the reins of the War of Dakka – a never-ending conflict fuelled by the Orks’ desire to beat the Farsight Enclaves at their own shooting game.

New Horus Heresy Plastic Knight Titans, Epic Warhammer & 2023 Roadmap Preview

Plastic Lancer Cerastus Knight Titan

plastic lancer titan

Cerastus-class Knights are noble and warlike steeds, built for speed and aggression. Ridden by the most impetuous of a Knight House’s Noble scions, they’re armed with deadly close-range weaponry suited for their role of routing the flanks of enemy armies.

This updated plastic mini looks great, and the pilot chamber is a nice touch if you want to display it.

Horus Heresy Librarian Consul Model

Horus Heresy Librarian Consul

Librarians are the psychic specialists of the Space Marine Legions, channelling the fury of the Immaterium into bolts of lightning, gouts of searing flame, and all manner of spectacular supranormal techniques. Given the sheer power at their fingertips, these warp-wielding warriors commonly rise to high ranks within their Legions – few Primarchs* entirely shunned their skills until the aforementioned Edicts.

The model is pretty interesting and has some sweet detail. With it being in resin, though, there probably won’t be a ton of options (but there will be another head option).

Horus Heresy Legion Tank Commanders

Horus Heresy Legion Tank Commanders

Horus Heresy Legion Tank Commanders 2

These tank commanders are designed to fit in the cupolas on tanks across the Horus Heresy range and add heroic panache to your armoured columns.

New rules in Campaigns of The Age of Darkness: The Siege of Cthonia will let you upgrade squadrons of Predators, Sicarans, Sicaran Punishers, and Kratos with these Decurions, who grant battle benefits.

This is a great-looking bit, and it should be easy to throw these on your tanks! However, they will do more than look good sitting on top of your models!

Plastic Horus Heresy Legion Vindicator

Horus Heresy Plastic Legion Vindicator

The last word in mobile wall-removal packs a massive centerline-mounted demolisher cannon – a huge shell-lobbing bombard that trades the long range of artillery for awesome destructive power. It’s quite content to turn anything it hits into confetti, but excels at cracking Fortifications and other buildings. During the Age of Darkness, it was common to fit Vindicators with magna laser destroyers to take on super-heavy vehicles and Titans. These batteries of up-gunned lascannons toss out more shots than the Sicaran Venator’s lone neutron beam laser, and trade the extreme range and destructive power of the neutron laser battery found on the Cerberus for the privilege of not occasionally blowing up in your face.

It’s always nice to get more plastic tanks as they are generally a little bit cheaper and are easier to build; plus, they hopefully make this easy to magnetize.

Horus Heresy Campaign & Lore Book

HH Siege of cthonia book

At the heart of this game is a powerful narrative, and the Horus Heresy team is expanding on the events of the setting with the first campaign book of the first edition, Campaigns of the Age of Darkness: The Siege of Cthonia. This hefty tome contains over 100 pages of narrative content digging into the fate of Horus’ home planet.

The planet of Cthonia is consumed by a rolling war and under siege by the Imperial Fists. Vheren Ashurhaddon, Master of the True Sons of Cthonia, vows to retake his home before Horus claims Terra, with the aid of the Word Bearers and the Alpha Legion.

As fans of Horus Heresy may know, the old black books used to be liked quite a bit, so this book is a return to that style, and hopefully, players will like this just the same!

Horus Heresy Despoiler Squad Upgrades

Horus Heresy Despoiler Squad Upgrades

Now you can get that close combat feel with the forthcoming Despoiler Squad upgrade set from Forge World. This resin pack comes with five arms with chainswords and five with bolt pistols for your MKVI plastic Space Marines. Aspiring commanders can use it to build brutal Despoiler squads to scythe through enemy lines.

It’s always nice to get more chainswords in the mix! However, it only has enough for 7 (if you include the axe and two-handed sword) in each, so if you want some bigger squads, you might need to pick up a decent number of these.

Horus Heresy Despoiler Squad Upgrades 2

There’s also a two-handed heavy chainsword for those tougher nuts, and a crackling power axe, which you may also field as a Charnabal. You can even use these arms to add saw-toothed spice to other Tactical Squads and kitting out your Sergeants, Command Squads and Veteran Squads.

These upgrades all look good, and you could grab one or two of these to upgrade your sergeants. However, they also mention something coming soon.

New Horus Heresy Infernus Abomination Assassin

The model and heads come from this Warhammer Community post.

Horus Heresy Infernus Abomination

Loyalist forces deploy many agents of the Divisio Assassinorum. These deadly operatives come in all sorts of forms – some are deadly duellists, while others are experts in information warfare, or masters of toxins.

They’re all extremely lethal in their own way – but they pale in comparison to the inhuman horror used by the Traitor Legions – the Infernus Abomination.

The model is definitely interesting looking! It could probably be used in 40k as a bunch of Chaos minis, but hey, if you need a wild traitor assassin, this might just be the perfect one.

Just keep in mind they do say this will be resin and from Forge World. Read more here!

Blood Bowl Nobbla 2

Gore the Gridiron

Gore the Grind

Gore the Gridiron

Nobody quite knows where Grashnak came from – stories about his early career flow like spilled ale through many a sporting tavern – but his trail through the Blood Bowl circuit has been one of broken bones, gored sternums, and crowd-pleasing bloodshed. His shockingly violent performance in his rookie year earned him back-to-back Best Newcomer and Most Vicious Player awards, and he’s since racked up a body count eclipsed only by the legendary Morg ‘n’ Thorg.

Gore the Gridiron 2

The Great Black Bull is in his element charging across the pitch to deliver his signature twin-horned Blitz, leaving unfortunate players Gored by the Bull. This special rule helps him steamroll most muscly opponents, and even gives him a leg up against equally massive rivals. Someone is getting flattened when Grashnak gets up to speed.

The Smartest Troll Around: Ripper Bolgrot

Ripper Bolgrot

Ripper wasn’t always the stunningly brilliant specimen he is today – once upon a time, he was regarded as particularly dense even for a Troll, before a secret regimen of ‘sports therapy’ turned his brain inside out.* Soon after, the sight of a Troll hollering orders, executing complex strategies, and counting higher than three got the attention of the Blood Bowl league.

Ripper Bolgrot 2

Known as much for his startling attention to the fine print on contracts as he is his tremendous right hook, Ripper Bolgrot’s meteoric rise has gone down in Blood Bowl history. He’s still 100% Troll, and can crack skulls with the best of them, but any Badlands Brawl or Underworld Challenge team lucky enough to hire him (for an eye-watering 250,000 GP) will get more than just brute force.

Ripper Bolgrot 3

On the pitch, Bolgrot performs much like you’d expect from a Troll – powerful blocks, regeneration, hurling goblins about like paper planes – but with the keen eye of a master tactician. Unlike many Star Players, who can only use their Special Rules once per game, Ripper can use his once per half, getting double the value out of his ever-useful re-rolls.

40k Kill Team Inquisition Narrative Expansion & 2023 Roadmap

ashes of faith

The battle for the city of Deepwell – and with it, the very planet of Exhalus – is a push-and-pull struggle for control of vital locations, using decks of cards, reusable stickers, and chunky terrain tiles to create objectives, enlist conspirators, and hoodwink your opponent. The cards included are themed around the Inquisition and Cult forces included in the box, but they can be used by any Kill Team to run the campaign as you see fit.

Ashes of Faith provides a complete start-to-finish campaign system that only needs a killzone to play, and will offer wildly different experiences every time as plans go awry and momentum shifts back and forth ahead of the nail-biting finale. The Kill Teams in this box are also usable in more traditional Kill Team campaigns and matched play missions, and they both offer a distinct playstyle.

Ashes of Faith is interesting as a new Narrative set for Kill Team and also doesn’t have any terrain, just rules and the two sets of factions! According to their shared roadmap, this will release before 10th Edition Warhammer 40k!

Kill Team Gallowfall

TheGallowdarkis doomed. After millennia drifting listlessly through the galaxy, this space hulk is finally on a collision course with an unlucky planet – and neither gods nor mortals can prevent its inevitable demise.

All of which means your kill teams should probably start making themselves scarce. That’s exactly the plan for the Leagues of Votann hulk-delvers in Kill Team: Gallowfall… They’re just, you know, grabbing a few souvenirs on the way out.

This new Kill Team Warhammer 40k box pits a party of Leagues of Votann against some fresh new 40k Beastmen of Chaos!

First New Models Revealed for Warhammer Old World

bretonnian paladin

From the sculptor:

“Getting to work on a Bretonnian was so exciting!” adds Alastair, who created the Paladin. “I collected a small Bretonnian force previously for Warhammer Fantasy Battle, so being able to add to a range that I used to play with all those years ago was awesome. I really enjoyed being able to search through older source material for inspiration, there is so much rich design language in the old army books that really inspired the design of this miniature. In my mind, Bretonnian Knights are stoic warriors, and perhaps just a little pompous, so I wanted to make sure that those attitudes came across in the miniature by having him stand heroically over his beheaded opponent – an Orc who I am sure he bested in single combat with little trouble!”

GW Confirms Old World Coming Soon & New Square Base Size

Warhammer Old World Square Base Size 3

As you can see, our painted models are on square bases – but these are slightly bigger than they were back in the days of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. The majority of models in Warhammer: The Old World will indeed sit on bigger bases – there are a few reasons for this.

Over the decades, our models have become larger and more dynamic, which means that many units have become difficult to arrange into ranks and files. Players must be able to line their models up without complex planning about which spear has to go where in order to use them in-game. On top of that, we didn’t like that the back ranks were hidden and hard to see.

So now, all 20mm bases have been replaced with 25mm bases. Most (but not all) 25mm and 25×50 bases have been replaced with new-sized bases.

Well, this means if you have a ton of models still, you will most likely have to rebase a lot of them. We heard a long time ago, in 2019, that square bases were coming back, but this is really the first confirmation from GW about the actual size.

This makes sense as the models have become more dynamic, but you will have to rebase some older models. This leads to the next question, are the models actually getting bigger?  Read More Here!

GW Reveals Bretonnian & Tomb Kings Weapons For Warhammer Old World

If you want to see how they revealed the return of the Tomb Kings, you can check that out here. For now, though, let’s check out the new info from Warhammer Community

Tomb Kings Weapons

Fresh from the forges of fair Bretonnia come new helmets, weapons and shields. Bretonnian knights commonly adorn their helmets with creatures that appear on their family heraldry, or those they believe they share a personality trait with. A knight famed for being stubborn in the face of adversity might sport a horned bull, while a noble renowned for their love of hunting may embellish their helm with a pair of antlers. These large helmets feature just a small selection of the fantastical birds and beasts you’ll see when the Bretonnian army marches to war.

It is a little suspicious pretty much everything we’ve seen has been for Bretonnians and Tomb Kings recently, which makes us think they are the most likely for a starter box, perhaps…

Games Workshop Announces New 2023 Event-Exclusive Miniatures!

GW exclusive miniatures 2023

From the 41st Millennium comes The Commissar’s Duty. This vignette depicts an absolutely iconic scene – an Astra Militarum Commissar with his sword planted in the battlefield rubble, standing tall as he delivers the Emperor’s Justice. Is he aiming at a foe, or at a Guardsman who needs to be made into an example?

He’s got a full tactical rock this time that he can stand on! Seriously though, this is a pretty cool model, and while it’s a little static, it should be striking on the battlefield.

GW exclusive miniatures 2023 2

Out of the Mortal Realms charges Tolgar Split-Eye, a frenzied Darkoath warrior sporting a natty eye-patch and swinging two huge axes. He also comes with an alternative head for building a nameless Darkoath Chieftain, which trades flowing locks for a fine beard.

This guy is a lot more dynamic and with those giant axes, should be a good addition to your forces.
