Warhammer 40k Battleforce Boxes are getting a four-way drop for the new edition, with Astra Militarum, Tyranids, Chaos, and Necrons all landing one.
GW revealed the new boxes, and they aren’t holdovers from last year’s lineup either. Plus, they’re different enough from the earlier Chaos battleforce wave in January, too, that they can easily get people into the new edition. alongside the Armageddon launch box.
Now that GW has already locked in the 11th Edition release date and shown off the new Imperial, xenos, and Chaos faction packs, the rules side of the launch is pretty well covered.
So, from the looks of it, these Battleforce boxes are the other half of that plan. They give players a clean starting point for the armies they’ve been eyeing, whether that means finally building a new force or padding out their existing collection before the edition lands.
- Four-way launch: Four new Warhammer 40k Battleforce boxes drop for the new edition, covering Astra Militarum Platoon, Tyranid Swarm, Chaos Space Marines Warband, and Necron Host.
- Marquee units: The Astra Militarum box headlines a Rogal Dorn battle tank, the Tyranid box brings a Hive Tyrant with a Swarmlord build option, and the Chaos box anchors on a Lord Discordant with Obliterators.
- Timing: Pre-orders drop “soon” per the GW reveal, and the new faction packs are already live, so the rules side is sorted before the kits hit your door.
Astra Militarum Platoon
Honestly, the Astra Militarum box is the one we’d put money on selling out first. The artillery, armor, and infantry combo is the most rounded Guard box GW has done in a while, and a Rogal Dorn at the centerpiece will move kits on its own.
Astra Militarum Platoon contents:
- 1x Cadian Command Squad
- 1x Commissar
- 1×0 Cadian Shock Troops
- 2x Field Ordnance Batteries
- 1x Basilisk
- 1x Rogal Dorn Battle Tank
- 5x transfer sheets
Tyranid Swarm
Anyone who’s been sitting on a pile of Tyranids and waiting for Synapse to mean something, the Tyranid Swarm box is looking like a great way to start or add to any bugs army in 11th.
Tyranid Swarm contents:
- 1x Hive Tyrant (builds as Swarmlord or winged Hive Tyrant)
- 3x Tyranid Warriors
- 1x Lictor
- 3x Von Ryan’s Leapers
- 10x Hormagaunts
- 10x Termagants
Chaos Space Marines Warband
For those wanting to start an undivided Chaos Space Marines army that’s focused around Cultists, it has an easy entry point now, too!
Chaos Space Marines Warband contents:
- 1x Lord Discordant
- 2x Obliterators
- 1x Venomcrawler
- 20x Chaos Cultists
- 10x Legionaries
Necron Host
Now the Necron Host is the box we keep coming back to in the lineup, because it’s been far too long since the Necrons got a bundle box in general. Plus, this Warhammer 40k Battleforce gives you the most all-around list we’ve seen, and the units inside line up with the Necron datasheets the army was already running too.
Necron Host contents:
- 1x Catacomb Command Barge
- 1x Canoptek Doomstalker
- 3x Ophydian Destroyers
- 5x Flayed Ones
- 20x Necron Warriors
- 6x Scarab Swarms
Final Thoughts on the New Warhammer 40k Battleforce Boxes
It really feels like GW wants the other armies not included in the launch box to get a little something to kickstart a new project, too, and we’re here for that.
Four new Warhammer 40k Battleforce boxes covering Imperial, Xenos, Chaos, and Necron, all getting previewed on the same day right before the new edition kicks off, will definitely do that too.
Sure, bundle boxes at the start of an edition are nothing new, but from the looks of it, these are all pretty useful boxes we could see people running in 11th Edition games.
The pre-order window is still “soon” per the reveal, so we’ll watch for the on-sale date in the next few Sunday Previews. Either way, if you’ve been waiting on a new 11th edition army project, that’s not Orks or Space Marines, you might just be in luck now!
