Warhammer 40k Armageddon Starter Set: Contents & Value

Here’s the Warhammer 40k Armageddon Starter Set contents breakdown, with the release date, pricing, savings, and what’s actually in the box.

If you’ve been waiting to see how the new Warhammer 40k Armageddon starter set actually shakes out value-wise, it’s finally here, and this one looks like a proper kick-off to the new edition for sure.

Games Workshop has packed it with 23 brand-new push-fit Space Marines, 38 brand-new push-fit Orks, the Core Rules booklet, Armageddon lore book, mission decks (for casual and matched play), datasheet cards, and transfers, so it’s not just a pile of plastic with a new logo slapped on the front.

It’s clearly built as the big “start here” set for the new Warhammer 40,000 edition, with enough on the table to get you rolling right out of the gate.

And yeah, pricing is the big question mark still, but our best guess is around $300, but that’s not confirmed, so don’t carve it into your hobby budget with a chainsword yet.

But we think that if it is priced near that, this could still be one of those starter sets that hobbyists do a double-take on, even with that many new models locked inside.

Warhammer 40k Armageddon Box Set Review: Inside the 11th Edition Starter Set

Warhammer 40k Armageddon Box Set Land Speeder

The Warhammer 40k Armageddon starter set is what the initial 11th Edition launch looks like in plastic, putting Space Marines and Orks back into one of the setting’s most iconic meat grinders. It’s stacked with new push-fit characters, line troops, and the returning Land Speeder on the Marine side, plus the brand-new Big Mek Dakkarig leading the Ork charge.

Headliners like the Land Speeder showing back up is the kind of move longtime hobbyists are going to notice immediately, and the Dakkarig walking-gun-mech is exactly the kind of weird Mekboy contraption that makes Ork players grin.

So, if you’re looking to start the new edition with one box that has models, rules, and campaign tools all in one place, this one looks like a proper Armageddon-sized scrap.

**All the models included are push-fit, so they have slightly less value than a regular kit, unless that is the unit’s separate release too, like Necron Warriors, Space Marine Outriders, for example.

Also, most people may not buy all the random cards and booklets, but overall, at retail prices to similar items, they still add a shocking amount of value to the box.

Is the Warhammer 40k Armageddon Box Set Worth It?

GW Reveals 11th Edition 40k Armageddon Starter Set Contents

Absolutely. If you’re looking to play Orks or Space Marines, this is probably one of the best-value boxes you’re going to see for a long while. Sure, the models are push-fit, but for most hobbyists, that’s not really a dealbreaker, cause it’s such a time-saver.

Split it with a friend, and you’re potentially looking at around $150 each for a big chunk of either an Ork or Space Marine army.

Compared to past Warhammer 40k two-army boxes, the value looks pretty strong, though a good bit of that is tied up in all the characters packed inside. Also, keep in mind that prices on the secondary market will fluctuate wildly as hobbyists sell off whole sides of the starter and other sellers will offer individual units separately.

Even so, whether you’re starting fresh, splitting the box, or just grabbing the new sculpts, the Armageddon starter set looks like a pretty solid buy all the way around.

What Can You Play Out of the Box? (40k Points)

GW hinted that the Armageddon starter set is around 1600 points, saying the Ork side is around 800, but didn’t drop a number for the Marines. With this being a starter set, we’d put both sides in the same neighborhood, give or take, but that isn’t accurate until Games Workshop confirms it.

What to Buy After the Warhammer 40k Armageddon Box Set

New Orks Model Scale: Boy, Nob, and Warboss.

Honestly, whatever comes next for both factions is probably the move. The rumor mill says this box is just the opening salvo for Orks and Space Marines, with each faction expected to get a follow-up codex and release wave this fall, possibly in October.

So if you’re planning ahead, grabbing this box now, getting the minis built and painted, and then adding the new fall releases later seems like the smart play.

Final Thoughts on the New Armageddon Box Set

The Warhammer 40k Armageddon starter set looks like the kind of edition-launch drop that’ll have both new players and longtime hobbyists pulling out their hobby budgets.

The bigger thing to watch, though, is what comes after. Codex waves and follow-up releases for both factions are penciled in for the fall, so the people who grab this box now and get plastic stacked early are going to be a lot happier when the follow-up releases hit.

If you’re into either faction, or you’ve got a friend ready to split the box, this feels like one of those releases you probably don’t want to sleep on.
