The Warhammer 40k 11th edition Space Marines rules are live, but GW shipped the Faction Pack without patch notes, so players have to comb the PDF for changes themselves.
You can download the full Space Marine 11th edition rules right now, and the first thing you’ll notice is that GW put these out without a single version note. Yup, there is no changelog. No “here’s what moved.” Just a PDF and a “good luck, you’ll figure it out.”
Here’s what we know for sure: the new Faction Pack includes the seven new Space Marine detachments with their full Detachment Point (DP) costs, a handful of datasheet changes that may affect how each army plays.
But honestly, with GW slow-dripping the rules for 11th Edition, it would have been nice to know at a glance everything that’s changing for the poster boys of 40k.
Even worse, with Xenos dropping tomorrow, Chaos on Wednesday, and the rest of the Imperium on Thursday, we have no reason to expect any of those Faction Packs to look any different, either, to be honest.
The Space Marine Faction Packs and Detachment Points Are Now Live
- Detachments: All seven Space Marine detachments are in the Faction Pack with their full Detachment Point costs.
- Aircraft tweak: Stormhawk and Stormtalon function as proper aircraft now. The Stormraven loses AIRCRAFT and stays a hovering transport.
- Character swap: Ancients, Apothecaries, and most Lieutenants are Support units now, so they ride with the Captain without a special rule.

The four chapter detachments (Black Templars, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves) bring more flavor and more DP costs, and Grey Knights round out the pack because they share the keyword even if they don’t share the Codex.
Plus, the prior detachment preview already broke down what each one actually does on the table, so the new info today is purely the cost for them all.
The Rules Updates Bury the Actual Changes

GW did mention that Aircraft gets some huge changes throughout. The Stormhawk Interceptor and the Stormtalon Gunship now function as full aircraft, appearing and disappearing through ingress moves the way an aircraft should, which is the first time the Space Marine air game has played consistently in years.

The character changes, though, are probably more impactful on players, though. Because Ancients, Apothecaries, and Lieutenants now have the Support ability instead of the Leader ability, which means an Apothecary can join the same unit as a leader and stack buffs for your big units.
The Lieutenant with Combi-weapon is the lone holdout and still has the Leader keyword, so he keeps doing his solo thing.

Final Thoughts on the Warhammer 40k 11th Edition Space Marines Faction Pack
Overall, the lack of any sort of changelog in these new 11th edition rules makes no sense. To us, it’s ludicrous that the company keeps shipping rules at this pace and asks players to handle the “version control” themselves. Especially when you add in all the new terrain rules and the rest of the edition’s reshuffling, the workload on the player side of the hobby is real, and we feel like GW could have made all this way easier (and chose not to).
Anyway, this is the first Faction Pack drop, and we know the reveal pattern for the rest of the week. Xenos tomorrow, Chaos on Wednesday, Imperium on Thursday. But honestly, if GW doesn’t ship changelogs for those either, the entire 11th Edition Q&A rollout is already starting to look like a homework assignment where every player has to reconstruct the changes by hand.
And that’s a problem GW could have solved with two columns of changelog text.
