As the summer comes to a close, it’s time to gather up the GW preview reveals spotted earlier on and begin to look toward the fall of 2020.
2020 has been an interesting year to say the least, and with previews still going strong for all avenues of Games Workshop, there are still plenty of releases waiting to hit the shelves. With that said, we’ll be going over what’s left to get released headed into the fall, and perhaps some of what we could be seeing in this next wave of previews this weekend.
Saturday GW Preview Incoming- Mark Your Calendars!
Warhammer Preview incoming! This weekend, we’ll be bringing you the Warhammer Preview Online: Shadow, Iron & Broken Realms. The preview will be full of tantalising teases, new models, and cool stuff for a huge variety of games.
Six games are going to be included in the preview schedule for this weekend. If you’re into any of these (which you probably are if you’re reading this) be sure to check your time zone on when the Stream goes live.
…we’ll be bringing you the latest news, teases, and shiny models LIVE on Twitch, accompanied by an in-depth round-up right here on warhammer-community.com. Here’s when you need to tune in to catch it all.
With the preview schedule covered, let’s talk about the mentioned releases that still aren’t on the shelves yet.
Necromunda Models Still On the Way
On top of everything on the way exclusively for Eschers (which is releasing over the weekend), we’ve got some Underhive Informants which look to be a hirable asset to gangs in campaigns, as well as a new Cawdor mini named Rattus Tatterskin and an Enforcer named Scrutinator-Primus Servalen coming too.
House of Iron Pushed Back to Q4
As we’ve just seen that all the Escher support is releasing this weekend, we know that we’re in Q3. That means that the House of Iron is up next for previews in terms of Necromunda book content as well. That’s supposed to drop sometime in Q4 but now that Eschers are taken care of, there’s nothing really on the plate for Necromunda right now. It’s a perfect time to see the Orlocks previewed a bit! The previews have also been titled “Shadow, Iron, and Broken Realms”!
Could this be a hint to the House of Iron?
We may also see more on this cool new piece of terrain as well:
The Gang Stronghold
the Gang Stronghold is fully compatible with the range of Zone Mortalis kits, meaning that you can create the gang hideout of your dreams. Not only that, but you can easily use it in games of Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team or even The Horus Heresy to create a thematic battlefield that really captures the feel of a lived-in section of an underhive in the galaxy of the far future.
As you can see, the word stronghold is a pretty good description. It’s not just a brilliant terrain piece though – it also has some extra rules that let you play some really narrative games. For example, that watchtower isn’t just the ideal spot to place a sniper, it can also prevent enemy fighters from sneaking up on you.
We’re not entirely sure how modular this terrain kit is going to be, although they mentioned that it’s compatible with all the Zone Mortalis stuff. However, we know that the silo is definitely movable and the overall detail of the kit looks great. You could totally see a bunch of Orlocks scrapping this piece together over the course of a few weeks.
The Final Blackstone Fortress Expansion: Ascension
Moving to Blackstone Fortress, these hit as part of some GW online previews. Showing two massive drones as new models in the box, this is the last chapter of the 40k adventure. If you look on the cover of the box, it also looks like a previous (assumed dead enemy) is back again…Obsidius!
New Warcry Warbands: Scions of the Flame & The Khainite Shadowstalkers
As with the other warbands that we’ve seen in Warcry, they worship a specific element of Chaos – in this case, the Ever-Raging Flame. Along with these incredible models, they bring with them a range of unique abilities that will help you conquer the Eightpoints. These denizens of Aqshy will be seeking Archaon’s blessing soon (you could say that they want to become flameous) so it’s time to start practising your flame effects. Oh, and while these are the last of the “missing” warbands from the Warcry Core Book, they are by no means the final warband for the game.
How SICK does this guy look? If he’s not used for a Scion of the flame leader he’ll be finding his way onto the hobby tables for some conversions. He’s perfect or an AoS Chaos Lord or maybe a Master of Executions in 40k.
With the quote from above, we know these guys like fire. Like really really like fire. So much that one of their guys is on fire. Going off looks alone, he could start the game already taking damage and be solely designed on running toward the enemy to set them on fire. Then burn to a crisp himself…
The Khainite Shadowstalkers are the spies that Morathi uses to enforce her will across the realms. Even for a race from a land of shadow and renowned for their innate stealth, these guys are sneaky! They’re like mist in the shadows, only the mist has a poison dagger and a repeater crossbow… These dynamic models hark back to a classic Dark Elf aesthetic from the world-that-was, that of Khaine worshippers like Assassins and Shades.
How cool is a dude with two repeating crossbow pistols???
These guys are unique as they’re the first non-Chaos Warcry set to hit the scene. To make them even more unique, from what we can tell, they are only three models, which could be a huge tactics changer. These Shadowstalkers were also previewed online.

Notes on Blood Bowl
Blood Bowl’s New Edition On The Way
There’s a new edition of Blood Bowl with a Boxed game set on the way. We’ve also been seeing new teams like the Bogenhafen Barons, The Black Orcs, and even the Wolfenberg Crypt-Stealers.
Crud Creek Nosepickers & Treemen
The Crud Creek Nosepickers are also on the way as Blood Bowl’s newest team. We’ve seen these guys previewed a while back but now they’re officially about to hit the shelves!
Reaching back to a couple of other Blood Bowl previews, we still have yet to see the Treemen model come out as well.
Sons of Behemat
The Sons of Behemat aren’t hiding any longer. Warhammer Community revealed these huge chonky bois and the best part is that they’re all a part of one kit. You can also bring these guys as a part of any faction. Since Gargants only care about food or ale, they can be bought by armies that need a little bit of bashing power. Their models have been previewed now for a while so we’re beginning to wonder when these dudes will actually release. We’ve actually just recently seen their points too!
Looking at the Mega-Gargant profiles, they’re all sitting at just under 500 pts with the Warstomper being 10 pts cheaper.
The Rest of the Lumineth Realm-Lords
We saw the army set finally hit but we’re largely waiting on the rest of the units like:
The Vanari Auralan Wardens, a heavy shield unit of spears that get bonuses if they stay packed tight. They can plant themselves on an objective or hold a choke point and never be moved.
The Spirit of the Mountain, the army’s big bad unit that’s called upon to do the heavy-lifting. The regular form has a big two-handed hammer.
While the named version, Avalenor, the Stoneheart King is wielding two one-handed hammers.
The Alarith Stonemage, a dude that has some insanely good balance. He’s sitting on a platform held up by a single focal point on two rocks. Also, he’s got a little earth elemental thing that does the walking for him.
The Alarith Stoneguard, regular Aelves that worship the Spirit of the Mountain (If you couldn’t already tell by their helmets). Like the Spirit of the Mountain, they’ve got a mix of hammers as wargear and have a rule that allows them to forcibly push an enemy back a couple of inches after melee attacks are done.
The Vanari Dawnriders, shock troops for the army. They’ve each got some kind of shield and spear similar to the Auralan Wardens. The only major difference of course is that they’re on horseback.
The Vanari Auralan Sentinels, the shooting aspect of the army. Overall, shooting is probably going to be the weakest aspect as they’ve just got this one unit. However, their spellcasting is going to be insane.
Speaking of spellcasting, Teclis is back and better than ever on his huge model. This guy alone is going to give Tzeentch armies a run for their money as we’ve seen a snippet of his rules that allow him to auto-cast four spells a turn and they’re treated as being cast on a 10.
The Light of Eltharion, the frontline shining star hero for the Lumineth. There’s nobody else in the army line that fills the role this guy has as a certified small-based badass.
Finally, we’ve got Scinari Cathallar. She’s going to be using weaponized depression as her selling point on the battlefield. Check out her warscrsoll!
In total, that’s ten different unit options hitting the Lumineth faction. Given the similarities between to named and unnamed Spirit of the Mountain/ Arualan Wardens and Sentinels, it could be an eight or nine-kit total army.
As for their Endless Spells, we’ve seen rules for these models already and they mainly look to be a huge support aspect for the army. From giving a protective barrier around a unit to completely turning enemy units to stone that are closeby, these spells are going to be powerful.
Horus Heresy New Saul Tarvitz Model & The Lion Primarch!
Saul Tarvitz was one of the first-ever named Horus Heresy Space Marines (along with Garro and Varren, in 1988’s Space Marine rulebook), and his appearances in Black Library’s Horus Heresy novels only cemented his popularity. His death** at Isstvan III after he led a disparate army of Imperial loyalists in defiance of Horus’ betrayal made him a legend – and now you can bring that legend to your games of The Horus Heresy.
The new Lion El’Jonson model is every inch the perfect embodiment of the questing knight. He is clad in the finest armour available and covered in the iconography of the Dark Angels. The Primarch also comes with the option to be assembled with or without his helmet. This impeccable fighter even has a choice of which weapon he will cut through the traitors with – the Lion Sword or the Wolf Blade. Finally, his gaming base slots into a diorama base with a heap of dead Night Lords at his feet, representing part of the bloody Thramas campaign.
OH BOI HE COMIN! Lion El’Jonson is stepping onto the tabletop cleaving through any marine stupid enough to cross his path. With two head and weapon options, you might want to magnetize him once he finally drops.
Horus Heresy Campaign Book Nine- Crusade
Another campaign book is also coming pitting Dark Angels and Night Lords against one another in the Thramas sector. It’ll be titled “Crusade” and we can also expect new models (probably Legion-specific) to hit the arsenal as well.
That’s not all! Along with the book, 2020 will see some amazing new models released that tie in with the Thramas conflict – all of which we’ll take a look at in due time. Meanwhile, the Siege of Terra series from Black Library will continue apace as Horus and the traitors press on with their attack on the Imperial Palace.
Kill Team: Killzones Supplement
Kill Team is getting an interesting wave of support called “Kill Team Killzones” This is more than likely going to be a supplement for different maps/missions. However, this release is largely left in the dark right now.
LOTR: Middle Earth Book & Characters
LOTR is getting a new book called Quest for the Ringbearer. You’ll be able to play through a bunch of narrative missions along with some new characters on the way.
Quest of the Ringbearer allows you to retell the epic story of The Lord of the Rings™ through loads of interlinked narrative missions, as you follow the Fellowship through their greatest battles. This is a great way to rediscover the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game of your youth or, if you’re a new player, experience the joys of guiding the Fellowship through epic moments you remember from the motion pictures.
Anborn and Mablung, Rangers of Ithilien.
These two Rangers are also on the way to make your fellowship that much stronger. They did a pretty good job on their faces this time too.
More Brand New Necron models
Canoptek Doomstalker
Monolith
Mystery model behind Monolith in previews
Convergence of Dominion Necron Terrain Piece
These are all still on the list to hit the Necron faction at some point. Definitely by the time their codex releases.
Models Inbound for Space Marines
Hammerfall Drop Turret
New Gladiator Tank Has Three Loadouts
You could build a Gladiator Lancer – an anti-tank sniper that’s ideal for chewing through your opponents’ most durable war machines and monsters.
Next up is the Gladiator Reaper, a great anti-infantry option that’s sure to tear through hordes of infantry models.
Gladiator Valiant – a short-ranged armour hunter that uses twin las-talons and multi-meltas to scrap armour and heavy infantry alike.
The Gladiator Confirmed This Earlier Rumor Pic- Primaris Land Speeders
If you look down at the bottom left corner of this rumor image that was spotted earlier this year, you’ll see what looks like the Gladiator Reaper. The tank to the right looks like it’s either an Impulsor or maybe even the back of another Gladiator. It’s difficult to tell. But the fact that the Gladiator has been officially revealed, it looks like we’ll have some kind of big Primaris Land Speeder on the way as well.
Ultimately, this could all just be the tip of the iceberg as well. There have been pictures of the Space Marine Table of Contents revealed showing some units we’ve never even heard of before.
Warhammer Underworlds
Warhammer Underworlds is also getting a new season in December. We’re not sure what it’s going to be called although a mysterious “Direchasm” name has been rumored. We’re bound to see more on this as we close in on the last part of the year.
We know this is a lot to digest so be sure to take your time counting up all of the kits we’re bound to see sometime in the near future.
In the meantime, what do you think will be in the GW previews this Saturday? Would you like to see more Warbands come to Warcry? What’s your favorite variant for the Gladiator?
