Necromunda is getting another cool terrain release that even comes with its own rules- check out the new Gang Stronghold that was just previewed!
Warhammer Community announced that a new terrain piece is on the way to Necromunda. But this isn’t just any terrain piece. It’s coming with its own set of rules that you can use in-game. Here’s a closer look at the Gang Stronghold.
Necromunda Getting New Terrain: The Gang Stronghold
…what if you wanted to build your gang their own base? Well, now you can, with the Gang Stronghold. This awesome new terrain lets your gang put down roots in the underhive and then defend their home from anyone who would try to assault it.
the Gang Stronghold is fully compatible with the range of Zone Mortalis kits, meaning that you can create the gang hideout of your dreams. Not only that, but you can easily use it in games of Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team or even The Horus Heresy to create a thematic battlefield that really captures the feel of a lived-in section of an underhive in the galaxy of the far future.
As you can see, the word stronghold is a pretty good description. It’s not just a brilliant terrain piece though – it also has some extra rules that let you play some really narrative games. For example, that watchtower isn’t just the ideal spot to place a sniper, it can also prevent enemy fighters from sneaking up on you.
We’re not entirely sure how modular this terrain kit is going to be, although they mentioned that it’s compatible with all the Zone Mortalis stuff. However, we know that the silo is definitely movable and the overall detail of the kit looks great. You could totally see a bunch of Orlocks scrapping this piece together over the course of a few weeks.
The Rules Are Situational But Cool
As for the rules, they’re a little game dependent but let’s take a look at Watchtower. You can’t make any moves (except for turning your model) until an alarm is raised. However, if you do gain LOS on someone trying to sneak up, you’re pretty much counted as auto-spotting the enemy. This makes stealth missions so much harder for the attacker.

So this Stronghold gate is basically a door that heavily swings in the favor of the one who controls it. However, if someone strong enough comes along and busts the door open, if you’re standing on the back-end of it, you could be hit with a S4 hit. It’s like in the movies where the door literally flies off the hinges. While it might suck to get hit by a flying door, it’s still just a S4 hit doing 1 damage with no AP.
So the Firing Port rule is a double-edged sword. You can blast dudes while still being in cover, but if you’re going against an opponent who’s bringing swarms of Cawdor gangers, they can also just spill through the sides of the walls. This is probably a balancing mechanic in case some gangs don’t have the heavy-hitting capability of blasting a door open.
There aren’t any dates on when this will be releasing…GW just said that it’ll be coming out soon.
