Wrath & Rapture: Playing Slaanesh at 2000 Points

Rumors of Slaanesh’s demise are greatly exaggerated. Looks like GW was just looking to rebrand them, rather than ditch the Dark Prince altogether.

The models in the Wrath and Rapture set look great, and the fiends have gotten a much-needed boost in stats, so it is a great set to start collecting a Slaanesh army around.

Slaanesh Side of the set:

  • 10 Daemonettes: (100 Points, Battleline 1 of 2 Required)
  • 5 Seekers of Slaanesh: (120 Points, No Unit Type)
  • 3 Fiends of Slaanesh: (140 Points, No Unit Type)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 1 of 4)
  • Total 460 Points

*I am guessing on the Infernal Enchantress as her points have not been released in Warscroll builder yet as of this writing*

This is going to seem like a cop out, but to take this army to 1000 the cheapest and easiest way is to get a second half of Wrath and Rapture. You can usually find people to split the boxes with or find it on eBay for about half the going value. (So about $75 dollars US) This will get you to 920 points, give you 2 Battleline Units, and it will give you more of those sweet fiends that are now buffed and ready to kill everything in the name of the Dark Prince.

  • 10 Daemonettes: (100 Points, Battleline 1 of 2 Required)
  • 10 Daemonettes: (100 Points, Battleline 2 of 2 Required)
  • 10 Seekers of Slaanesh: (240 Points, No Unit Type)
  • 6 Fiends of Slaanesh: (280 Points, No Unit Type)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 1 of 4)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 1 of 4)
  • Total 920 Points

For your last 80 points, I think getting an additional leader is key for this army, and the Masque of Slaanesh is super cheap ($16 new) and costs 80 points so is a great addition to the army. He is also great for tying up units on the battlefield to let your fiends get close enough to finish them off.

  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 1 of 4)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 2 of 4)
  • The Masque of Slaanesh: (80 Points, Leader 3 of 4)
  • Total 1000 Points

This is a pretty solid force that if you split both copies of the Wrath and Rupture you can get for about 160 bucks or so. It is very fast, has a ton of rending, and can dish out some serious damage input. However, it lacks wounds and saves so it is like a glass cannon and you can live or die based on the dice rolls.

For your next 1000 points, we are going to pick up the Start Collecting Daemons of Slaanesh set and combine all the Daemonettes to get a massive regiment bonus. You are going to need to fill out some other battleline units but that will be done later.

  • 30 Daemonettes: (270 Points, Battleline 1 of 3 Required)
  • 15 Seekers of Slaanesh: (360 Points, No Unit Type)
  • 6 Fiends of Slaanesh: (280 Points, No Unit Type)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 1 of 6)
  • Infernal Enchantress (Herald of Slaanesh): (100 Points, Leader 2 of 6)
  • The Masque of Slaanesh: (80 Points, Leader 3 of 6)
  • Herald of Slaanesh on Exalted Seeker Chariot: (160 Points, Leader 4 of 6) – General
  • Total 1350 Points

By making the Herald your General you can take Seeker Chariots as your battle line troops and they are solid at 80 points apiece. They are also relatively cheap at about $25 each so keeps the army on the cheaper side which is always a bonus.

  • 30 Daemonettes: (270 Points, Battleline 1 of 3 Required)
  • Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh: (80 Points, Battleline 2 of 3 Required)
  • Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh: (80 Points, Battleline 3 of 3 Required)
  • Total 1510 Points

What this army is lacking is some magic user and behemoths so to fill that gap while maintaining the speed aspect of the army. I think we should dip into the Slaves to Darkness with Soccer Lord on Manticore and a Keeper of Secrets. *I think the Keeper of Secrets is going to be replaced soon with a newer model, so if you can wait for it I would* Or if you haven’t been enthralled by the Queen of Ecstasy yet, you may fancy her as a replacement.

  • Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore: (200 Points, Leader 5 of 6, Behemoth 1 of 4)
  • Keeper of Secrets: (260 Points, Leader 6 of 6, Behemoth 2 of 4)
  • Total 1970 Points

Slaanesh

Loadouts:

For this army, I am going to choose to give them the Seekers host ability to increase the movement range of all my models. This goes well as a lot of your troops have 10” Move or larger so they are getting 2” added rather than 1”. I like the Allure of Slaanesh at the command trait for the general as giving your opponent -1 to hit might keep your general alive with their low wound count and 5+ save. I would then give my Keeper of Secrets the Breathtaker to try and control the combat phase a little bit.

Tactics:

This army is incredibly fast meaning you should be able to control the field of battle for most of the game. For me, I would go with trying to use the Seekers and the Chariots to tie up enemy units or control objectives to give your Fiends and Daemonettes a chance to get in there and clean up. The Infernal Enchantress can give you some bonus summoning points, and do some ranged dame so use them to pick off wounded Heroes if you can.

Your Keeper of Secrets, Lord on Manticore, and Fiends are your heavy hitters, but you are not going to want to get them stuck in combat. Use them in the second wave to mop up anything your Chariots and Seekers couldn’t finish off. Use the Masque to slow down your opponent’s faster-moving troops so that they can’t take control of your objectives or charge your Infernal Enchantress in the back line. With the buffs to the fiends I think saving up 12 Depravity Points to summon in 3 of them is a good bang for your buck, so don’t be afraid if you lose a couple. Just re-use those models to summon them back into the game.

There you have it while the army started cheap, the Chaos Sorcerer on Manticore and the new Keeper of Secrets will rack up the hobby dollars. Also, this army doesn’t have a battletome yet so that also makes playing it a little difficult as they do not have the same number of options as the other Chaos warbands.
