3 Things You May Be Playing Wrong in Age of Sigmar

sorcerer age of sigmar new model bitsAre you playing these Age of Sigmar rules wrong? With the latest updates, there might be a bit of rules confusion over some finer points of the game.

Age of Sigmar is a complex game all on its own and if you play AoS and 40k, the rules can blur between the two a bit. Check these things you might be forgetting in your games.

You Can Shoot into Combat in AoS

In Age of Sigmar, a unit tied up in combat might not be able to shoot OUT of combat. However, in the shooting phase, you can unload your ranged weapons into those that are within 1″ of you. To add even more icing on the cake, your units can’t be hugged up on to stop the rain of arrows. Your backline units with ranged weapons are also able to shoot into a clash where allied units are fighting. Just remember that the next time you play because, in 40k, it doesn’t really work that way.

Characters are Targettable but at a Cost

gloomspite gitz age of sigmar how to playNo matter the wounds count or size of the model, all of your Heros can be targetted by ranged weapons in AoS. However, there is a price to pay if your opponent tries to assassinate them from afar.

You’ll have to subtract 1 from all hit rolls from missile weapons if the Hero is within 3″ of an enemy unit with 3 or more models. Look Out, Sir! is supposed to simulate the Hero’s companions ducking in front of enemy fire. Or the Hero just throwing his chaff in front of him to block the shots. Either way, it’s useful.

Age of Sigmar Got More Command Abilites

aos command abilitiesThere are three new generic Command Abilities usable by Heroes and Generals that were just added in the 2019 General’s Handbook These are:

  • All-out Attack: Reroll hits of 1 in the combat phase.
  • All-out Defence: Reroll Save rolls of 1. (This is literally a Mystic Shield that costs a CP).
  • Volley Fire: Reroll all hit rolls of 1 in the shooting phase for a unit.

Keep in mind that these all have some decent range. At 12″ for any Hero and 18″ for your General, you’ll be able to beef up key units without having to bend over backward.  Best part is you can use them at the top of the phase indicated instead of just your own hero phase. This goes for phases in each player’s turn in a battle round even- nice!

With these three being a new addition to the game, most players forget they even exist!

And there you have it. These are three things you might forget in your games of AoS. Hopefully, this has brushed the dust off of some of the rules to help you keep your games going smoothly!
