legion walMandalorians and Imperial special forces will be hitting the tabletops soon. Check out what’s ahead with a detailed look at these two kits.

Rebels and the Galactic Empire are still going at each other’s throats. But this time, Rebels have brought in some Mandalorians while the Empire has activated their version of special forces. These two kits are coming from Fantasy Flight Games with some other exclusive assembly slides spotted on their FFG Twitch.

Clan Wren Mandalorians (Rebels Faction)

clan wren 1Madalorians are proud warriors whose martial traditions stretch back centuries. Among this storied people, the members of Clan Wren are legendary for their battlefield prowess. With the Galactic Empire dividing the great houses of Mandalore, Clan Wren unites with the Rebellion to fight for a free galaxy and the liberation of Mandalore.

clan wren 3You know you’ve done something serious when you piss off a whole clan of Mandalorians. With the Galactic Empire stepping on everyone’s feet, the clan Wren has linked up with the Rebels. This entire unit gets jetpacks (which by the way, all have rockets). They’re looking like a fantastic option to race across the board and apply serious pressure turn one, or can be used more cagey as a rapid response unit to a flank being pushed in.

clan wren 2If you’ve never painted a unit that uses flight stands, it’s strongly recommended that you paint your mini and detail your base before you glue it on. It just makes everything so much easier and you don’t have to worry about anything getting on the clear plastic.

clan wren 4Within the Clan Wren Unit Expansion, you’ll find seven highly customizable Mandalorian miniatures—enough to deploy in two distinct units. Three of these miniatures blast off from their bases with jet packs and flight stands let you decide their height and trajectory—including Tristan Wren, who wields a blaster rifle from his time as an Imperial Super Commando. Meanwhile, a single Mandalorian trooper can wield the traditional beskad saber or appear with a single Westar 35 blaster pistol. Finally, Clan Wren matriarch Ursa Wren leads her family into battle with her signature Nite Owl helmet.

Galactic Empire Inferno Squad

empire inferno squad 1Tasked with completing specialized stealth missions such as retrieving vital intelligence and destroying key targets, Imperial special forces troopers are adept with an array of weaponry, including the T-21 Blaster . Inferno Squad is particularly notorious for its unconventional tactics and its members—including Gideon Hask and Del Meeko—can lend their specialized skills to number of Imperial units.

empire inferno squad 2Speaking of Del Meeko, he’s got a sniper rifle that’ll be adding two black dice to the pool with rules like High Velocity and Lethal.

empire inferno squad 3The assembly for these guys looks pretty standard. Also, if you’re not a fan of the plot armor vibe on characters, you can throw a helmet on Del and Gideon.

empire inferno squad 4No matter what unit you assign them to, the seven unpainted hard plastic Imperial Special Forces miniatures you find in this expansion arrive in a variety of poses. One of these troopers can be assembled with either a T-21 blaster rifle or an E-11 blaster rifle. If you’re assembling Inferno Squad to work alongside Iden Versio, separate Gideon Hask and Del Meeko miniatures can be assembled with or without their signature helmets and Meeko enters battle carrying a DLT-19x sniper rifle.

With the Rebels and Empire getting a healthy dose of elite forces it’ll be interesting to see how these units clashing together will shake out.

What will you be grabbing in the next expansion? Would you like to see more Mandalorians put into the game? Does the Empire need more long-range fire support?
