Games Workshop is doing their new free miniature of the month promotion a little different this go around…
Normally for the mini of the month, GW would just open up a box and build a whole bunch of minis from it. Meaning you would get a random one. However, with the new promotion, they promise you’ll get a specific new model every month.
At first, we thought they would have a very limited amount, as they would have to take a single mini out of a sprue, but it looks like they don’t need to.
Let’s check out the details!
Games Workshop Free Miniature of the Month
Instead of a model from an existing kit, people who make their way into their local store at the start of every month* will earn themselves a sweet model taken from that month’s biggest release. Just walk into your nearest Warhammer and ask staff how to claim yours!
This is a pretty cool change; however, they are giving themselves an out with that asterisk. As they then state, not every month will actually be a new model, but it will most of the time.
So with Warcry: Heart of Ghur coming to pre-order this weekend, August’s miniature is a raggedy fighter from the Rotmire Creed, whom you can see in all his festering glory right here.
Whether you just want to start a special display of miniatures, or you’d like a taste of the Rotmire Creed, check back here during the coming week to find out exactly when you can add this ague-ridden blighter to your collection. As ever, this promotion runs while stocks last – check with your local store manager for the full details.
It’s a cool model, and it will be interesting to see if everyone actually grabs this model as before they just opened a box and made the minis. If they only give out this mini, we expected supplies to be more limited than before.
New Free GW Miniature of the Month Has its Own Sprue
So now, thanks to Reddit, we know how they are doing the Free miniature of the month promo for Warcry. Hobbyists get a single demo sprue, like the Space Marine Intercessor or Stormcast model sprues, they put in the White Dwarf when those editions launched.
This is a big change for the Free promo from how they did it for the past year, as they used to open up boxes and build a full squad.
This guarantees everyone gets the same one which is great for instruction. However, we’re not sure if it means stores will get more or less of them because of this.
Considering they can just ship a whole box of these, they should get a bunch. However, just opening boxes gives them access to 10-20 models per box, so we’ll have to see how many people actually grab the model. Either way, getting a new mini for free is always cool!
It could also be that GW put extra budget into this promo to launch the new Warcry product line too, and in the following months, will go back to stores just building whole squads of miniatures.
Either way, this is one of many recent pivots from Games Workshop, but we’re all for them changing things up if it improves the customer experience!
