to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 9They will be using the new Fanatic paints, and while they aren’t out quite yet, this gives you some great insight into how they will work! If you’re reading this after the paints are out, you’re all good to go; just follow along!

Step 1:

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 3He starts with a basecoat of Mulled Berry overtop a zenithal highlight. Red is normally hard to paint, but with these new paints, you only need one coat, and you’re good to go! After that, he does a Dark Red Tone wash all over the armor.  The wash line has stayed the same, but don’t worry, they added some more as well! To start highlighting, he takes Wyvern Fury and does a broad highlight.

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 2For a more focused highlight (leaving some of the previous color), use pure red and follow the same pattern as before, just in smaller areas. Then, go for an even smaller highlight with Topaz Skin and pick out the hard edges. For the most focused highlight, he uses Barbarian Flesh and only does the highest areas.

To finish this step off, he does a spectoral highlight with Matt White. To push the saturation of the red, he thins Blood Red Speedpaint mixed with the medium and applies it to the armor.

Step 2:

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 4Now, to start on the skin. He starts with a basecoat of Barbarian Flesh and then wash it with Strong Flesh Tone. To start highlighting, he comes back with Barbarian Flesh again (just be sure to leave some of the wash in the crevices) and then does a lighter highlight with Dorado Skin. With a touch of Matt White, he further refines those highlights. To make a glaze, he mixes the Wyvern Fury with their stabilizer and applies it to the face. Now, to paint some stubble, he mixes Deep Ocean Blue with Dorado Skin and paints it where a 5 o’clock shadow would be.

You can then thin down the blue, glaze it around the beard areas, and basecoat the hair. Finally, he paints the teeth with Ice Yellow.

Step 3:

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 5He basecoats the Aquilla with Matt Black picks out the wings with Deep Ocean Blue, and finally highlights it with Thunderous Blue. He paints the bronze parts with Weapon Bronze as a basecoat.  For the other ornate details on the armor and such, he basecoats those with Deep Ocean Blue and once again highlights them with Thunderous Blue and a more focused highlight with Wolf Grey.

For the hardest details, he picks them out with Ice Yellow.

Step 4:

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 6Now, back to to metals. First, he washes all the bronze with Strong Skin Shade. He then highlights it with Gredd Gold and then True Brass. To finish the gold, he washes it with Military Shade and a final small highlight of Mithril.

For the seals, he basecoats them with Desert Yellow and washes them with a Soft Tone. Once dry, your first highlight will be with Dorado Skin and a light highlight of white. For the top parts of the seals, he bases them with Alien purple; just be careful here not to mess up your previous work.

Then highlight with Magenta. He does freehand here, so you don’t have to if you don’t feel comfortable, but he mixes Matt Black with Dorado Skin and just trace in any designs you want. Now for the cloak, he goes back to Dorado Skin, basecoats the whole thing, and does a simple feather highlight with Matt White.

Step 5:

to Paint Space Marine Terminators How 7Now, it’s time to finish off the rest of the metal. He starts with a basecoat of Cobalt Metal and then washes all the silver with Dark Tone. For the first layer of highlights, he uses Plate Metal and does a final highlight with Mithril. Now, all you have to do is base the mini!
