How are the Ruinstorm Daemons shaping up to be? We’ve got an early look at some details and they won’t be like any army we’ve seen for 30k before!

Hobby hero, Garro, posted a general list of the Ruinstorm Daemons. We’ve got an early look at their base sizes, a few rules here and there, and the unit’s names.

We also added in a few of our own images of the book as well for Ka’Bandha and the Arch Daemon. Enjoy!

Ruinstorm Daemons Base Sizes

If you wanted to get an idea of some of the names of the Daemons as well as their base sizes, you can check everything out here. Keep in mind that these are all for the Horus Heresy out of Book 8: Malevolence. This is the first time the Imperium of Man ever came into contact with the Warp entities.

Army-wide Special Rules

  • Have the Ruinstorm Daemon keyword but still count as Daemons for the purposes of rules like preferred enemy.
  • All Daemons have a 5++ invulnerable save and Fear.
  • They are immune to Fear, and auto-pass pinning, fear and regroup tests. the unit also suffers a Perils of the Warp, instead of falling back if they fail a morale test.
  • All of the army’s units must be set up in reserve. The Daemon player will set up Rift Markers as portals. These will be 5″ entrances where you can deploy your Daemons. Ruinstorm Daemons will also be able to reroll failed invulnerable saves within 6″ of the portals.
  • The entire army will be affected by the Tides of Madness rule. Your army will start with +1 S and T at the start of the game. However, it will reach -2 on those stats by turn 7. This is to show that the Daemons are losing power outside of the Warp. This will be an army that has a very strong first few turns and then lose steam.

Daemons Use Their Own Perils of the Warp Table

Daemons of the Ruinstorm will also have their own Perils of the Warp table.

  • Consulting the table, if you roll a 1, the entire unit becomes WS, BS and I 1 until the controlling players next turn. The unit suffers D3 wounds with no saves allowed and if this is during the psychic phase, the controlling player loses all remaining warp charge in his pool.
  • On a 2-5, the unit takes D3 wounds with no saves allowed. (In the psychic phase it becomes D3+1 with both sides gaining that number of warp charge).
  • On a 6, that unit gains +1 WS BS and Initiative and D3 warp charge if during the psychic phase.

Wargear & Dominions of the Ruinstorm

codex-chaos-daemons

this is the Emanations of horror, which are a collection of weapons, rules, and wargear that practically any daemon unit or character can take. All the units in the list are broken up into three brackets, with items having different points costs for each bracket, and some items only being allowed to certain brackets.

It looks like the Daemons will all have the same basic wargear to choose from. In all honesty, it makes sense since they are coming from the same Chaos god. They are just reflections of himself.

With weapons covered, each Daemon army will be able to pick a Dominion. These Dominions are segmented up that gives your entire army a special rule, a selection of Warlord Traits, etc. This is to show where in the Warp these guys might have come from. (There are six total Dominions).

Ruinstorm Daemon Units

  • Daemon Lord: He’s the standard HQ. Has a selection of bodyguards and can be made into a flying monstrous creature.
  • Samus & Cor’bax: These are just some named Daemon characters that were released a while back. They’ve been updated to fit the Ruinstorm rules set.
  • Ka’Bandha: He’s actually an HQ slot and comes with preferred enemy: Sanguinius.

Ka'Bandha:

  • Greater Daemons & Daemon Chosen: These are other HQ options to choose from. They’ll get to choose their preferred enemy. (infantry OR bikes/jetbikes/cavalry OR monsterous creatures).
  • Ruinstorm Possessed: This is a new unit of troops that are possessed locals from the planet. They’ll have two different statlines for normal humans and Marines. They come in unit sizes of 10-20. They won’t be able to capture objective or be scored as points for being killed.

Warpstorm Space Marine

  • Lesser Daemons: Troops choice taken in squads of 5-20.
  • Daemon Beasts: Troops choice taken in squads of 3-10.
  • Daemon Swarms: Troops choice taken in squads of 3-10.
  • Daemon Brutes:  Tough linebreaker units that come in squads of 3-6. Probably something akin to faster Terminators without the great armor save.
  • Daemon Cavalry: Basic cavalry units of 5-10 models.
  • Daemon Shrike: This is a flying Greater Daemon in the fast attack slot. He’ll cost fewer options to represent its not a leader.
  • Greater Daemon Beast: Is a heavy support slot that has stats just under a Greater Daemon. Can be taken in units of 1-3.
  • Daemon Behemoth: This is a T8 10W model with attacks that cause instant death.

  • Arch Daemon: This is your Lord of War clocking in at 600 pts base. He’ll come with different rule options that’ll cost extra points. Below are his upgrades:

Daemon fans are about to get a whole new game they can venture into! Horus Heresy needs more support. Everything is shaping up to be an exciting time to jump into this grimdark setting! What do you think about the Ruinstorm Daemons in 30k? Will the army play like a brutal early-game force that falls off in the end? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
