Making custom camo cloaks is secretly easy! This arts and crafts styled tutorial will help you make camo cloak or Ghillie suits (if you add terrain elements) for your Space Marine Scouts. This technique can be used for any model however, so keep this technique in your hobby tool kit. This technique can give you unlimited conversion capabilities and uses easy to acquire items.
The items used in this tutorial are super easy to get and are probably already in your hobby kit. The only item that may be a little out of the way to obtain is the Unbleached Cheesecloth, which is found in on amazon, and your local grocery store. Elmer’s Glue and a plastic baggy work great and an old hobby brush as well. That’s it for your supplies!
Once you’ve gathered your materials, cut out a miniature sized piece of Cheesecloth. For finding the right size Cheesecloth, use a 2 bases wide and 1.5 bases tall formula to see how much you need for your particular model. Next, depending on the size of the model, you can cut some notches to fit around your model.
Once you have your piece of cloth cut to specifications, get your glue and plastic bag. Add equal parts water and glue to the plastic and mix it around. Take your Cheesecloth and saturate it in the glue mixture. Use your old brush and drag some glue around your cloth to get it nice and wet.
After your cloak is all soaked with glue, start placing it over the top of your miniature. Drape it over and make sure the slots you cut fit where you need them around the arms. Once on your model, you can shape your cloaks to your desired specifications.
Let it dry overnight and cut down the excess around the bottom of the model. Base as normal, that’s it- shockingly easy!
