Rob goes over the Necron C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon, compares it to other Necron models, and tells you the GOTCHAS to be aware of when building it! If you want to see how the other Nercons went together, check out Rob’s video on it here!

We are going to show you everything including the sprues, bits, and of course comparisons.  That way you can decide if this is worth your hard-earned hobby dollars. Let’s go!

Ctan Shad of the Void DragonThis is the fourth C’tan from GW and probably the coolest looking of them all. This mini runs for $110 from GW and while it looks amazing, that is almost a 3x price increase from the old C’tans. Let’s see if this is worth it!

Instructions and Sprues

Ctan InstructionsYou get two different options for the head and it looks fairly easy to build either option. There are a lot of squiggly pieces in here! It’s a little scary to see after how hard the Silent King was to build. But the instructions for it look very well laid out, so hopefully, it won’t be too bad! They also give you all the pictures of how it should look, making it way easier. Like top-down pictures, correct orientation, and individual steps.

Ctan Instructions 2They also give you tons of arrows to help you orientate where all the crazy little parts go. Just be careful when looking at the instructions, because they constantly turn the base in the instructions. So just beware of the orientation of your mini before gluing. Just make sure you have the mini turned the same way as they do.  You’ll have to use some landmarks to make sure it’s all going right since there are no mentions of how much to turn the mini. We’ll have to see how it actually goes together!

Ctan Instructions 3One last thing to note, the back piece should go straight into the slot, not attached as they show. Nothing crazy but just make sure it slots correctly to the back of the model.

Ctan SprueYou get a single big sprue or two squad size sprues. Not much plastic for the price! This is a good example of how GW does their pricing. Because when someone only needs to run one of something in their army, they seem to charge a higher price. So when you need to get a bunch of something, the price is lower, like the Warriors, Canoptek, etc…

Basically, they make up for the sculpting and design costs, so if they know they are going to sell a bunch, the price per goes down. Anyway, back to the mini!

Completed Ctan 2He went together pretty well actually. It probably took longer to cut everything out and clean than to build. The only thing that was hard was getting the legs together and supported (watch the video for that time saver). Even the webwork of small pieces went together very well and nothing was that hard. Rob was able to put everything together using the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement, which keeps everything so much cleaner.

Overall a great looking mini and it went together without much hassle.

Size Comparisons

Size comparison CtanDefinitely a little bigger than the Doomstalker, but not by much!

Size comparison Ctan 2He’s surprisingly about the same size as the Silent King!

Size comparison Ctan 3Obviously he dwarves the poor Necron Warrior.

That does it for this one! Pretty cool mini, it just may seem kind of expensive for how big it is.
