Painting Expensive Warhammer Models: eBay Miniature Rescue
There are some insanely incredible models out there, but sitting down to paint a giant model is not always easy! You spend a lot of money on the mini, you build it all nice, then sit down to paint, and you freeze up! This happens to all of us.
Well, if this has happened to you, it’s called thought distortions. There’s a little voice inside telling you you’ll ruin it if you try to paint it. Well, that’s not true! You can make it through.
Maw Krusha Problems
He recently had some of these thoughts with his new Maw Krusha. Since he was rescuing it off eBay, there was a lot to be done upfront. He got it all fixed up and primed, but he let it sit a little too long, and that’s when the thoughts started to creep in.
How do you fix this?
- Make yourself a goal of when you have to finish the model, whether you have a real deadline or not.
- Leave it out, so you have to look at it.
- Draw inspiration from the community.
Just Getting Started
Something that can get you going is just picking a technique you like and starting with that. For him, he likes filters, and it just forces you to start putting paint on the model. Thus, getting the ball rolling and getting you motivated to keep going.
Emotional Reasoning
This is where things can get harsh after you have already started your paint job. This happens to people all the time; generally, halfway through, your models really don’t look that good! This happens even more on bigger models.
So, just keep your end result in mind, and don’t get discouraged halfway through if the model isn’t looking the way you want because once you start adding the highlights and finishing touches, the model will start to come together.
Finishing the Project
Again, don’t get discouraged once you start getting near the end! Keep to your ideas and just finish the model. It will look great, and you’ve made it through and painted something great no matter what.
