This time around, he talks about something a little different. The Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k has possibly the best quality of any printer, but it has its issues.

Right off the bat, you might be saying he’s crazy as he admits it has probably the best quality of a printer out there, but not to buy it yet.
However, the main issue comes from the ease of use and quality of life. So, he’ll cover how the prints look, the issues, and how to fix them.
Print Quality of the Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k
As you can see, the print quality of the Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k is beyond almost anything out there, even better than what Games Workshop is currently doing. So if you don’t mind having some issues (or just wait a little until they get those issues figured out), this printer may be hard to beat.
Technical Difficulties
First off, he couldn’t get the bed to level, this had to do with a threaded screw from the factory. As a result, he had a ton of failures due to that. Then, he was giving prints longer times, which then caused other issues.
After that, the LCD screen itself failed. It was sound, but nothing would show up. Luckily, the customer service is great, and the Facebook group was super helpful. They even sent him another free screen, so that’s cool.
The LCD screen is also quite hard to replace. The main thing that terrified him is that the LCD screen doesn’t have another glass on top, so it sits directly on the FEP. So you can easily mess it up. Plus, the tape to mask it off doesn’t really have a template, so if you mess it up, it could cut off parts of your print.
Bed Leveling Solution
They actually built this so well that it has created an issue. The arms on the print bed are so strong that they cause the bed to shift as you tighten the screws. So, use two sheets of paper to level the bed and instead of tightening one screw at a time, tighten each one, and then go around doing a quarter turn on each screw until they are all tight.
Printing Shoulder Pads
With those issues fixed, he wanted to print something small. The 8k resolution eliminates almost all issues with lines on the resin. Even zoomed in, he couldn’t find a single one, so needless to say, the pads came out amazing!
However, with that said, the 8k resin it comes with is a double-edged sword. It has some of the best quality he has seen in terms of actual detail, but it is super brittle.
Small spears and such could easily break off. Long story short, this resin needs to be kept at 22.4 C minimum, and once you have it correctly heated, it will work. So, if you’re having issues, you most likely aren’t keeping ambient temperature correct. The supports themselves will still come off easily in hot water.
The Last Few Issues
The layers would sometimes split apart from one another, and they would stick to the base. However, he fixed this by turning on transition layers, he went with six, and it seemed to solve the issue.
With all that said, the prints do look amazing. Let’s see how they all turned out!
Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k Large Model Comparisons
As you can see, the detail is just so good. This makes previous printers and even GW minis look a little bland. Especially on the bigger minis, the detail comes out so much that it’s wild.
Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k Review: Conclusion
Honestly, the printer is amazing, and the 8k detail is nearly impossible to beat right now. He thinks right now; there is no need to look for a higher resolution. However, there could be ease of use improvements. So, what are you waiting for?
