Lava bases look amazing on the tabletop, but sometimes they can be a little daunting, but Hellfire breaks it down into a few simple steps! To note, he uses cork and some resin (or even green stuff balls cut in two) to make the base, but you can also buy pre-made resin lava bases as well!

Let’s see how to do it.

How to Paint Lava Bases: Hellfire Hobbies Tutorial

Step 1:

Next, he goes with a light drybrush on the rocks with Celestial Grey on the rocks. To start on the lava, he loads up some Mephiston Red and thinner into the airbrush and sprays all the non-rock parts of the base.

Step 2:

He builds this very slowly from the sides; you want to leave a decent amount of the orange here.

Step 3:

To finish it off, come back with the drybrush from before and cleans up the rocks. Finally, paint the rim of the base black.
