Don’t miss who has risen to the top in the new Warhammer 40k meta Monday 40k that’s rocking the new mission deck and balance dataslate.
It’s time for another 40k Meta Monday, and this week’s shakeup is anything but subtle. With the new Tournament Companion and the latest balance dataslate in full swing, armies are scrambling for position, and some lists have shot straight to the top while others are left wondering what happened.
If you’re looking for the inside scoop on who’s winning big, what’s struggling, and which 40k factions are adapting fast, you’re in the right place.
Let’s break down exactly who’s leading the charge as of July 14th, 2025.
Knightmare on 40k Street. They’re taking over.
With Deathguard still running amok, the addition of Knights and Chaos Knights has really had a chilling effect on the current 40k army list Meta.
“You must be this tall to ride,” but height was replaced with the ability to kill over 100 wounds of Knights. If your faction can’t do that while still competing with the likes of Deathguard and Thousand Sons, you just can’t participate in the current tournament scene and expect to go x-0 or even probably x-1.
40k Meta Monday: This Ain’t a Scene…
The meta is in a weird spot, as you are all familiar with the behemoth that is the Deathguard codex; going into detail is probably just beating a dead horse at this point.
But with Thousand Sons bringing their new Twist of Fate to the meta, any army without an Invulnerable save is feeling the burn. AP-2 Bolters on a rhino? What is this madness!
Be prepared to get hit by the token Rubric units, and make sure not to leave important units on objectives, or they might disappear in flames.
Rise A Knight
Now, the Knight in the room… We really have two at this point, and they’re wildly different, causing another meta catastrophe. Imperial Knights with their invulnerable (and rotate) and FNP can take a wild beating and keep pushing into you.
They’re highly efficient with rerolling of a hit and wound of 1, and even the Helverins can rip you if you accidentally have flying (yours truly lost a Nightbringer in 1 Helverin activation on Joe’s stream a few weeks ago…)
Chaos Knights rock up to the table with even more bigs, that do the same, but different things. Fight first on a Rampager? You need a solution for that problem. Abominants pouring out mortals and Dev Wounds as well, with their highly efficient profile and datasheet abilities. They can also throw some Daemons into the fray as well!
Oh, and Challenger cards now exist, so if you’re thinking about taking Bring It Down and Assassinate… They may be getting a wild ability you can’t predict each round until you’re out of T11 killing power.
Final Thoughts on These 40k Meta Army Lists
Knights need to be accounted for, and it seems like OC and tying them up can be a solution if your faction doesn’t pour out damage into their profiles. So yeah, it’s a bit of a circus out there right now. If you’re heading into an event, expect to face at least one Knight list and probably some flaming Rubrics ready to melt anything left exposed.
Don’t walk into your next match thinking you’ll figure it out on the fly; those Knights aren’t going to politely wait while you rethink your game plan. Make sure to get some practice reps in against these armies before your next event!
