Games Workshop has heard the community and dropped a ton of points changes in the latest balance update for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k!
We have talked a lot about what’s been banned in tournaments, how GW’s playtesting works, and much more about the community reaction to 10th Edition 40k. However, GW is keeping up with its promise of making adjustments, as no edition really drops with perfect balance. So it’s good to see GW already making changes to keep things a little more fair for everyone.
These new Warhammer 40k points adjustments really focus on Knights, Aeldari, anything with Indirect Fire, and anything a little too offensive. It hits most armies, so be ready to change up the lists a little bit. Let’s jump into the changes!
10th Edition Warhammer 40k Points Munitorium Field Manual 1.2 Update From GW!
The latest points changes and balance update for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k is from Warhammer Community.
Early games have shown that the ability for particularly massive war machines to loom over terrain and blast vulnerable units to pieces is particularly powerful, especially when entire armies of Towering units like Imperial and Chaos Knights bring the big guns. This is also true of weapons with the Indirect Fire ability, where the cover-ignoring antics of the Desolation Squad are proving tricky for many armies to deal with.
Accordingly, these units have been given a bump in points costs to reflect their performance. Death Guard Plague Marines will also be glad to see that they can be taken in squads of seven once more – you no longer have to leave two unfortunates from the seven-man kit on the sidelines!
These units have been performing quite well in tournaments and games we have played/heard about, so it makes sense they would go up in points. Let’s check out the factions! Just to note, we’re not going to show factions that remained the same, so if your army isn’t below, things are staying the same.
Adetpa Sororitas Points changes
As you’ll see with most of the changes, almost anything with Indirect Fire is going up in points, so the Exorcist (up 30 points) is the only thing getting hit so far.
Old Points
Aeldari Points Update
Aeldari is grabbing a decent number of points updates, with the Fire Prism, Wraithknight, Night Spinner, and Support Weapons all increasing. As you’ll see, anything with towering also gets an update.
The Fire Prism goes up 25 points, the Support Weapons go up 20, and the Night Spinner gets a 30 points increase. We’ll see if this with the other NERFs bring them down a little.
Astra Militarum Points
The Imperial Guard has a lot of Indirect Fire weaponry, so they are getting a lot of updates. While it looks like they are hit hard, GW went after basically anything with Indirect Fire, and they might have the most.
Black Templars Points Update
This one is interesting because they hit the Sword Brethren, one of the few units changed, but GW might have just got the numbers wrong before, as they were 150-330. Meaning you got a cost saving from taking bigger units, and GW wanted them to match up.
Chaos Knights Points Update
The Chaos Knights get hit quite hard with tons of increases (basically 60 points per big Knight). However, they all have Towering, so we’ll see how this giant increase balances the faction.
Chaos Space Marines Changes
They get a single change to the Khorne Lord of Skulls, so this shouldn’t really make a huge change on the faction, but it does go up by 60 points (far less than in World Eaters).
Death Guard Changes
This isn’t actually an increase, just the ability to actually take 7 Plague Marines! This way, you don’t have those 2 extra sitting around unloved (or over cost).
Grey Knights Points Update
The Purgation Squad goes up by 25 points for 5, and 45 for 10, so it looks like you can still save some points for going bigger.
Imperial Knights Points Update
Just like with the Chaos Knights, basically, every bigger Knight is going up by 60 points. Meaning in a 2k list, you’ll have to take out a full Armiger or switch around your list a lot.
Necrons Changes
The only thing changing for the Crons is the Seraptek going up; just a single change isn’t too bad.
Orks Changes
Like with the Necrons, just one Towering unit gets a change (45 points more).
Space Marines Changes
The Space Marines have two Indirect fire units, and both get an increase this time around.
Tau Points Update
The Tau have been considered one of the stronger armies, but they are only grabbing two changes with the Stormsurge (up 60 points) and the Ta’unar getting increases.
Tyranids Points Update
Biovores have Indirect Fire, and consequentially, they are getting a 25-point increase per model. At the same time, the Harpy goes up by 60 points, much like the Knights.
World Eaters Point Updates
Like with CSM, the Lord of Skull is the only thing increasing, but it’s going up by an insane 105 points (far more than in CSM)!
