Build a wild gang of humans, mutants, robots, and plants to battle in a wasteland of Trailer Park Warlords that’s more fun than Warhammer 40k!
Welcome to Trailer Park Warlords of the Apocalypse by Bad Goblin Games. In this skirmish game, your gang of chain-smoking mutants, janky robots, and talking plants fights for dominance in the dustiest corners of a nuked-out wasteland. This isn’t your clean-cut sci-fi slugfest.
It’s duct tape, bad decisions, and pure chaos on the tabletop. If you’ve ever wanted to field a warband that looks like it crawled out of a gas station’s nightmares, this is your moment.
The Basics of Madness
The Basics of the game are based on a D10 system instead of the standard D6, providing a wider variety of outcomes. Instead of complex math or having a lot of charts to follow, it’s a simple system.
You have a basic stat and a weapon stat, each giving you an amount of d10s to roll. If you are shooting, it’s just a target number of 6 to hit. The close combat adds variety to this by giving you a fluctuating target number based on your and your opponent’s skill level.
Once your opponent is hit, they roll two dice for a damage check, adding in successes. This makes it so you don’t have to be a math whiz or have to follow a complex procedure to figure out damage, keeping the game moving and everyone involved.
Fun Mechanics For All Levels
The mechanics of the game run like a lot of skirmish games you are familiar with. You have actions you can do each round. Your first action is always free. You can perform a second action, but this will incur a wound token (this game’s version of wounds).
Once a model has reached its stamina level in winded tokens, it becomes staggered, losing some of its abilities. If the winded tokens go higher than your stamina, then your model has to take a test each turn to see if it stays in the game.
Finally, if it hits double its stamina, the model is outright slain. There are several ways to remove these tokens, which we will get to later.
The other game mechanic that adds a lot of fun and silliness to the game is the Apocalypse cards. Each player has an identical deck of Apocalypse cards, which can be played whenever they say they can be played on the card.
The Apocalypse cards can do anything from healing a model from some of its wounded tokens, to giving it an extra move or free action, or just doing something silly like tying your opponent’s shoes so they move slower.
Use Models From Anywhere!
The mechanics, however, are just one of the things that make this game awesome. The game is model agnostic, meaning you can use whatever models you like. They do sell their own line of models that are really cool as well.
However, one of the neat things the creators have done is to make a system where you can build whatever team you like from whatever kind of models you like. Do you want a team of chainsaw-wielding robots? Sure, how about plants that want to murder everyone? Go for it.
You want a giant sentient bear wearing armor? You can do that, too. The appeal is that your imagination is the limit with this kind of system.
Scenarios Built For Fun
Lastly, I need to mention the scenarios, which really shine compared to other games. Where most games are a matter of getting this object and holding it, or just killing the opponent. The missions in Trailer Park Warlords of the Apocalypse are wholly unique.
They have missions like the running of the flamingos where your models are trying to escape a wild pack of mutant flamingos, or capture the karen (she will want to see your manager), or monster truck mishap which sees you chasing a greased up pig to get some keys, or slaughter the villagers where one person is protecting a town full of npcs while the other raids it.
No matter what mission you are playing, you will find yourself laughing and having a great time.
The team behind the game is also very enthusiastic and quick to answer any questions or concerns that come up with the game. They have a very active Discord, which you can reach here, and are pretty responsive on Instagram too.
Two Player Starter Set: $99.00
The two-player starter set comes with everything you would need to play. Two gangs, all the cards and tokens for two players, as well as the rulebook.
The Gangs that come in the starter are a human gang known as the Bubbas.
And a sentient animal gang known as the roadkill.
Agnostic at Its Best
However, as I said, they give you rules to make just about any type of gang you want. So if you want a gang of ninja frogs, do it, or perhaps you would rather have a gang of mutated monsters, totally up to you.
I myself decided to create a gang of samurai cyber bunnies. I call them the Fluffle of the Lucky Foot, and they don’t take kindly to humans.
Final Thoughts On the Game
The main thing is that the game focuses on fun! If you’re tired of all those games that take themselves way too seriously and just want to play a skirmish game that will make you and your friends laugh and have a good time the whole time, then don’t miss out on Trailer Park Warlords of the Apocalypse.
You can find the game here. As a long-time wargamer and painter, this game hit both spots for me. A very fun and fast game that’s quick to pick up and learn, as well as letting me paint and make any model that I want. How can you go wrong with that?
