Castellan Imperial Knight New codex

Come see the latest rules, and rumors for the full Imperial Knight release lineup that have been confirmed on the way for 8th Edition Warhammer 40k.

All the weapon profiles were revealed for the Dominus class, and more rumors give us a peek at the possible combos that the new class can bring to bear.

Newest rules & rumors collected at the bottom in chronological order:

Latest Imperial Knight Rules & Rumors:

We had been hearing that there was a lot more meat to the Imperial Knights codex that people have been expecting. Here is a mix of rules rumors based on all the new images that were just previewed for Imperial Knights in 8th Edition.

I would say by the look of things the majority of these are going to pan out to be pretty factual.

Armiger Warglaives

The new Imperial Knight codex will contain TEN Knight datasheets, and would like to add the name Preceptor to the list of models that we will be seeing soon. He also confirmed that the four names quoted above in bold are correct with each being a variant of the other.

the Knight codex will also have a terrain datasheet just like the Harlequins, and a special character datasheet too.

Freeblades are a custom part of the Knights and are given bonuses like how selecting the C’Tan powers work. BUT for every bonus, there is a drawback that can hurt your creation. There is a way to work around the negatives… at least temporarily.   For Chaos, well, there is no Chaos, renegade or otherwise.

knight Armiger

4 new Knight kits coming!!! Terrain, Armiger (makes 2 diff versions), Knight Preceptor / Special Character (with full cockpit & pilot figure), Valiant / Castellan.

Sector Mech Terrain Post

Terrain is like tech priest with the ability to re-load, heal, and max out weapon shots for a Knight. Amrigers get Dakka with 2 amped up guns, and character gets a laser weapon like a Chimera, but you know, bigger.

Armiger Warglaives

Codex fixes two problems with the Armiger high points and weak to hordes in combat. Both new Armigers will cost less that a leman russ, and chainreaper will gain a multi-attack ability.  Helverin gets dakka that taken over several models leaves any other walker’s firepower in the dust.

Castellan Knight New

Dual Dominus Class model kit is bigger than existing Knight. Both have one shot 2d3 autocannon missles D3 damage that ignore inv saves and can target any character with a strategem. Reload by docking with new terrain piece. Valiant harpoon: S16 -6 10 damage rerolls hits against big targets & d3 MW additional. Flamer arm 3d6 S7-2 2 autohits. Another strat makes the knight a Voidshield generator for Imperium keyword.

3+ improvable both INV & regular save, 28 wounds, T8 you can field 3 of these in an 1850 army (barely).

9 houses for the knights, Questor Imperialis- Terryn, Griffith, Hawdhrous, Cadmus and Mortan. Questor Mechanicus- Raven, Krast, Taranis, Vulker.Griffith +1A on change, when charged or HI, ya lots of ways to heroiclly intervene with all knights. Raven advance & shoot with no penaly, heavy weap become assault type.  Vulker Reroll 1’s to hit if shooing closest target

Armiger Helverins

Armigers drop 60 from forgebane, knights down 25, gattler cannon down 20, dominus class base 100 more than Guilliman, new terrain 90.

From that, it looks to make Knights now 285 base, with the Armiger down to 163 from 223.  The big boys are clocking in at 500 just for the knight itself, but a previous rumor said you could get three in an 1850 list so I would imagine that with weapons we’re looking at around 600 total cost to field them.

Houses abilities (presumedly working off a Faction Keyword system like other codex books) are:

Questor Imperial Houses

  • Terryn: extra d6 advance or change
  • Cadmus: reroll wounds in CC on anything with less than 12w profile
  • Griffith:  +1A when charging, charged, or via Heroic Intervention.
  • Mortan: +1 to hit when charging, charged, or via Heroic Intervention.
  • Hawkshroud: has double wounds for statline purposes when damaged

Questor Mechanicus Houses

  • Raven: When they make Advance moves, treat Heavy weapons as Assault weapons.
  • Taranis: 6+ FNP against Mortal Wounds.
  • Krast: RR hits when charging, charged, or via Heroic Intervention against TITAN keyword
  • Vulker: Rerolls 1’s when targeting the closest enemy unit during the shooting phase.

These are all known houses with from the previous Knight Codex as well.

There’s a new Knight sheriff in town, and his name is Sir Hekhtur, and his custom knight Canis Rex

canis rex sir hekhtur

Sir Hecktor & Canis Rex cost 50 more than Robbie G to field. Rex is the new Preceptor class 4A hits on 2+ for CC &Range. Pulse Laser 36″ 2d6 S6 -2 D3 or 18″ D6 S12 -4 d6 damage. Hand of Liberty (melee) S16 -4 2d6 Damage (always at least a 6) trhows dead vehicles and monsters 9″ doing d3 MW on a 4+.  If Sir Hecktor survives Rex’s 2d6 explosion d6MW explosion sets up on board and plays. Vet Guard statline w/ Archotech pistol S5 -2 2. Affected by Freeblade table.

Knight Armiger

From the looks of this close-up, the Helverin will indeed be getting some long-range firepower.

Codex fixes two problems with the Armiger, high points and weak to hordes in combat. Both new Armigers will cost less that a leman russ, and chainreaper will gain a multi-attack ability.  Helverin gets dakka that taken over several models leaves any other walker’s firepower in the dust.

Sacristan Forgeshrine

Terrain is like tech priest with the ability to re-load, heal, and max out weapon shots for a Knight.

Knight Castellan & Dominus

Dominus Class model kit is bigger than existing Knight.

knight Valiant

Knight Valliant: Castellan & Valiant Pics Spotted

knight Valiant

perspective valiant knight castellan

Apparently, the new kit will be bigger than the Knights we know now. From the hip joints, the positioning of the legs, and the forced perspective of these two knights it looks like the Valiant is indeed bigger than the Errant behind it.

flamer valiant knight castellan

Is this the flame arm from the rumors we heard last week?

harpoon flamer valiant knight castellan

Ouch. if the rumors are true this harpoon packs a wallop with 10 damage

3+ improvable both INV & regular save, 28 wounds, T8 you can field 3 of these in an 1850 army (barely).

knight castellan wal hor

Warhammer Community gave us a complete rundown of the stats for these beasts, and we filled in the rest at the bottom with the latest rumors from Scanner.

Dominus Armor

dominus toughness

Sitting at T8 with 28 wounds and a 3+ save, this behemoth can soak up a lot of lascannon punishment. Something surprising about the stat-line was the 4+ WS, but then again you don’t play this thing for the melee capabilities. Having a gun in every crevice of the armor seems more like a shooting platform.

Plasma Decimator

dominus decimator

Plasma in 40k is great so they put it on a knight. Supercharge basically being up to 6 plasma guns in rapid fire. This thing can devastate elite infantry and light vehicles at being 2 damage a pop and -3 AP.

Volcano Lance

dominus volcano lance

At 80″ range, nothing is going to be able to run from you. With D6 shots and doing 3D3 shots a piece, you can tear up a vehicle if not blow it up. How many vehicles have an invulnerable save? Not that many and at -5 AP, you can make a Land Raider run and hide.

Conflagration Cannon

dominus conflagration

This thing is a 10X better version of the Forge World Storm Cannon Array you can slap on Leviathans. at only 6″ less range and auto-hitting, there won’t be much that can withstand that kind of firepower.

Thundercoil Harpoon

dominus harpoon

If you’re using this thing to kill Space Marines and not vehicles or monsters, there’s something wrong. Youre essentially doing 10+1-3 wounds for each hit. If you don’t hit…..COMMAND POINT.

Siegebreaker Cannons

dominus siege breaker

This is still very good but not quite on the power level of the other weapons, we’ve seen. This could be the cheaper alternative or secondary weapon.

Shieldbreaker Missiles

dominus shieldbreaker

It’s a beefed up long-range melta that doesn’t allow invulnerable saves to be made. Hold on to these for other Knights and Leviathan Dreadnoughts.

Oathbreaker Guidance System

oathbreaker guidance system

You can’t hide from the missiles! Target those characters and snipe a little Chaos Lord or FLyrant.

ion aegis

Trading movement for protection can be useful in some situations. Definitely worth using if you’ve got some -X AP hatred rolling your way.

Dominus Rules Rumors

According to the latest, Dominus class knights always have a chance to explode in a whopping 3d6 radius doing d6 Mortal wounds to everything around them. There is also a detonation stratagem that betters the odds of this happening to a more regular occurrence, perfect for that noble sacrifice!

As you can see from the Shieldbreaker missile profile above and its sniper stratagem, reloading said missiles in the Forgeshrine may be worth it to finish off pesky units or characters late game.

Buff wise there is a relic that confers a 2+ save, and a warlord trait that lowers the ion shield to a 4+ for the game, making your warlord quite the walking fortress with the ability to rotate ions down to a 3+ with the stratagem above.

Will you choose that or the trait that gives you one re-roll and Command Points?

Also if you like that plasma gun, but think it’s a little lacking on punch for such a large model, Cawl has a relic that bumps it to S9 -4ap 3 damage on the overcharge. Now you’re playing with POWER!

If this pans out to be true that’s a pretty HUGE rollout of the new Castellan kit. Wow, a walking Baneblade, who’s in on this one?

Imperial Knights

The combination of Mechanicus and Questor rules will be enough to fill a normal sized 8th edition codex, here is the rumored breakdown:

  • 120+ page codex
  • 12 Knight Datasheets (one fortification)
  • 9 Traditions (House Rules)
  • 29 Strategems
  • 6 Generic Warlord Traits, including the 4+ inv we saw already, command point buffs, and re-rolls etc.
  • 9 House Warlord Traits including a -1 to hit your warlord out of 18″
  • 22 Relics! Wow if Cawl’s super plasma cannon, and the 2+ sv above any indication, these will be worth more than a second glance.
  • Freeblade chart, which includes 6 bonuses and 6 drawbacks to use for customizing your very own character.  Canis Rex comes preloaded with a bonus and a negative already (as well as a warlord trait).

Also, something to note, the Canis Rex/Preceptor class model was not on the release sheet for this Saturday, so there may be a second wave of Knight leading up to the new Age of Sigmar in June!

What do you think about the previews so far? What weapons will you be taking on your Dominus class Knight? Let us know in the comments over on our Facebook Hobby Group.
