Painting a demon sword can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be, check out this painting tutorial to get your miniatures on point!

This time around he paints up Crowe’s sword, but you can do use it for any of the demon swords out there. It’s a pretty easy way to get a really cool effect without a ton of effort. Let’s get into the tutorial!
Painting a Demon Sword: Galharen Tutorial
He has most of the mini painted, as we’re focusing on the sword! Let’s see how to do it. Just to note, he’s using an airbrush for the base tones and then goes to the brush.
Step 1
To start, he does a Zenithal highlight on the blade and then does a quick white coat on the runes with the brush. Next, he loads Magenta from Vallejo into the airbrush and does light coats on the flames, with a bigger focus near the blade.
Next, he does a thin layer near the edge of the flames with Hexed Purple. You can add a little black to the mix if you want more contrast.
After that, he goes to the brush and paints white ink back into the recesses and runes again. This will help later on when he goes to the yellows and oranges.
Step 2
Now he goes to Orange Fluorescent and covers all the places where he painted white before and covers at least half the runes. He then mixes a yellow with the white from before and enhances the effect with the brush, as a reflection of the light source. And even does this on some of the purple areas as well.
Step 3
The last part is to finish the blade itself. He mixes the purple from before with the black. He paints all the areas near the front of the blade to finish off the effect. Then lastly, he goes back to the Magenta and does a quick edge highlight to keep it from getting boring.
